Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Zarock's past

Zarock sat at the writing desk, contemplating the situation and organizing a plan on what to do next. He was suffering from a headache due to the poison. Suddenly, he remembered something. "Status, open!" he shouted into the air. At that moment, a blue screen appeared with double white lines along the borders and text in white.

'My situation can't be any worse,' Zarock thought. He began recalling the storyline, its various plots, and every key detail, as they might provide solutions to his current problem.

In the original plot, the Starless Empire's emperor was Valen von Starless. He died, leaving behind his wife and three daughters. At that time, the Starless Empire was in chaos. According to imperial law, the throne should pass to a male heir, so the throne went to the emperor's brother, Tharion von Starless.

Tharion von Starless was a wise and kind noble. He fell in love with a commoner woman and had a child. That child was Zarock. Tharion wanted to be fair in the succession of the throne, so he announced that when his brother's eldest daughter grew up, she and his son would be assigned a territory. The one who raised financial and military power and governed the territory properly would inherit the throne.

Everyone was satisfied with the decision, but when Emperor Tharion brought his wife and son to the castle, the one who was dissatisfied. She was the wife of the late emperor, Isola Ravenscar. Tharion, once a nobleman, had fallen in love with the commoner Lina and married her, making her his wife. They had a son, Zarock, who was one year old at that time.

Isola Ravenscar was unhappy that a commoner would replace her as Empress. She plotted against Lina, purchasing special master-level rune seals from the black market. These were used by assassins; when a servant betrayed their master, they would experience a heart attack, their blood would boil rapidly, and they would bleed from their head orifices before dying. This was done so that if an assassin was captured, they would not reveal the mastermind. Isola, daughter of a noble mage family, kept her deeds hidden from her family.

She used these runes on the servants around her and some palace guards. The rune had limits, so she could only control a few people, but it was enough. She then bought various poisons: one that blocked veins, causing problems in blood flow (especially painful for commoners with no magic), one that slowly ate away flesh and organs, causing organ failure, and one that made the mind unstable. Lina was always worried about what would happen to her son if something happened to her. After few months Lina fell into a deep, eternal sleep, Zarock, a two-year-old boy with golden eyes and baby fat, cried beside her. "Mama! Mama, wake up."

Zarock's loss of his mother caused him psychological trauma. Emperor Tharion, his only love lost, was deeply depressed and said nothing. Behind them stood Isola Ravenscar, grinning as she watched the family drama unfold. She was able to maintain her position as Empress by using the rune on the palace priest, who was also the palace physician.Temper with treatment and saying it was due to illness.
