Dum dum. Dum dum.
Raena's heart pounded in her chest, the sound of the footsteps echoing through the chamber like the tolling of a bell. She locked eyes with Jaun, and for a brief moment, everything else seemed to fade away. The distance between them was only inches, and the air felt thick with something unspoken, something that made her pulse quicken.
But the approaching footsteps snapped them both back to reality.
"Quick, hide!" Jaun hissed, grabbing Raena's hand and pulling her toward a small alcove tucked away behind a towering bookshelf. The space was cramped, barely enough to fit the two of them, and they were forced to press closely together. The soft brush of Jaun's breath against her ear sent a shiver down Raena's spine.
What the heck was that? Raena felt so unlucky. She can't help but groan quietly at the fact that the trouble never seems to get away from her... not at all!
