Davina ended up spending the whole day chatting and wandering around town with Evan. She shared the same sentiment he did because just like him, it had been a while since she hung out with anyone without the pressure of planning to steal from anyone.
"Well, I'll see you when we return to the castle." Evan stretched out his hands to her as they said their goodbyes.
"Have a nice night and send my regards to your mother," Davina accepted his handshake with a smile.
As the two of them parted ways and the second Evan was out of earshot, Davina couldn't help but let out a frustrated curse under her breath. "Damn it!" Feeling the pressure of being late, she quickened her pace and practically broke into a run as she made her way to the bar. She had been supposed to be there an hour ago, but her conversation with Evan had taken much longer than she had anticipated.
"Sorry, I'm late." She blurted out the words as soon as she made it to the bar.
Gerrick just stared at her like she was crazy. "What in the hell are you wearing Davina?" He sighed, tired of her constantly disguising her appearance. "I just hope you're not up to anything dangerous." He warned her before throwing an apron and a tray her way. "Start with the customer on the end." He pointed to men sitting in the corner, waiting for their drinks.
"Yes, boss." Davina beamed and brought the drinks over to the men. "Sorry for the delay." She told them while setting their drinks down on the table.
"Where's the young lady from yesterday?" One of the men asked.
"I came here just to see her." The other added.
It was painfully obvious that both of them were heavily intoxicated. Their unsteady gait and slurred speech indicated that they had been indulging in alcohol at the previous establishment. Davina was confident that they had been asked to leave that place, and she had a strong feeling that Gerrick would soon be showing them the door as well.
"That's too bad men," She started, a devious smile spreading across her face, "She caught the flu last night and passed soon after this morning... bless her soul." It took all the strength in her not to burst out laughing at the way their faces turned ashen and how they immediately became sober on hearing her words.
"Enjoy." She beamed, loving the seed of chaos she had planted.
"Be careful not to scare my customers away." Gerrick reprimanded her.
Davina just shrugged and gave him an innocent-looking smile, "I haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about."
Not buying her lie for even a second, Gerrick shook his head and walked off, not before giving her one final warning look.
She was in a rather pleasant mood that night after the day spent with Evan. Davina couldn't help the wide smile that spread across her face as she served the men, although she did serve some of them with frowns - they deserved it after all.
After her shift was over, she went to the park nearby to rest and catch her breath. "What a day." She sighed, closing her eyes and enjoying the feel of the cold breeze against her burning skin.
There was no one else in the park and all she could hear was the sounds of birds chirping in the distance and crickets. Just as she was about to sink some more into the bench, Davina's eyes shot wide open the second she sensed a presence beside her.
She craned her neck to see who joined her and nearly snapped it the second she saw that familiar golden eyes staring back at her. "Oh, god." She exclaimed, her heart nearly dropping to her stomach from the shock.
"Pleasure seeing you, Dimitri." Caspian nonchalantly greeted her but |Davina didn't miss the mischief glistening behind his foxy eyes.
"Ah - same here... Sir." Dvina felt like crawling into a hole and setting it up as her graveyard because she might have well been dead with the Caspian was looking at her. He was plotting something and she could tell.
"I didn't know you work here." He gestured toward the apron she had on, it had the bars logo drawn on it. "Fascinating." he hummed.
"It's my brother's bar and I-"
Davina was brutally cut off by Caspian who suddenly plopped his face in front of hers without warning. His face inched closer until his lips were mere inches away from Davina's, reeling her in to close the nonexistent gap between their mouths.
"Have you ever been kissed, Dimitri?" He asked.
Before Davina could comprehend what was going on, Caspian's cold lips lightly grazed hers, she pushed him away and hurriedly stood up. "My Lord, this is highly unethical!" Her real voice nearly slipped out amid the chaos.
"What's unethical about this?" Caspian's face lifted to form an innocent yet devilish smile, he seemed to be enjoying the reaction he got out of her.
Flustered, Davina turned her back to him and took deep breaths before speaking more composedly. "We are both men and it wasn't ethical of you to try and... kiss me." The last bit came out as a whisper blown away by the wind.
Caspian's chuckle echoed through the woods as he stood up from the bench and faced Davina with a smug look on his face. "Tell me, Dimitri, was I really trying to kiss a man just now?"
"W-what do you mean?" Davina stumbled backward as she stared at Caspian in shock and disbelief, unsure of what to do to save herself from that situation.
"Let me rephrase my question." Caspian delicately grazed Davina's cheeks with the back of his hand. "Are you really a man?"
