Chapter 39 - Crisis I

Senso-ji Mountain Range, Asakusa Temple..

Taito City, Tokyo.....

*SWOOSH!*

A large multitude of crows flew from the cluster of trees that surrounded the huge temple in the heart of the mountain range and swarmed towards its entrance.

There, they coalesced into the figure of a blue haired cloak wearing intruder who landed gracefully and began surveying her surroundings.

Her long blue hair was tied into a ponytail and her emerald irises continuously scanned the area with caution..

'The cursed energy in this place is too far concentrated...There might be more than one curse in this God forsaken temple..'

She made a mental note to herself and opened the door to the temple, still examining her surroundings with her heightened senses for the littlest mishap.

Within the temple, several huge doors were closed and sealed, and the statues of several gods seemed to bear copious amounts of cursed energy that caused her to frown..

But..

She didn't have to wait for long. Right in that instant, a humanoid curse swung down from above, with incredible agility. It's face resembled a gray hockey mask, but it's long tongue and jarred teeth was unsettling as it swung down with long claws ready to rip her apart.

However, she remained still with the least bit of worry on her face. Just when it looked like she was about to meet her end, a high speed unidentified projectile ripped through the body of the curse, sending blood splattering all over, as a smile formed on her face.

The projectile, a small black crow slowly descended and landed on her shoulder, which she caressed fondly and turned to the destroyed body of curse on the ground with a confused expression.

"Third grade?.."

But right in that moment, multiple roars and growls resounded with the temple, and right then, dozens upon dozens of the same cursed spirit came rushing towards her with immense ferocity and beastliness, wanting to tear her apart.

With a smile, she merely waved her hand and materialized a large broad axe and hefted it onto her shoulders.

"That's more like it.."

She laughed to herself and zoomed off into the midst of the curses, gripping her axe tightly, and with a bloodthirsty gaze.

*SLASH!*

*RIP!!*

The axe was like the scythe of the grim reaper, tearing and ripping through the bodies of the curses with no hesitation. She moved with incredible agility despite her weapon being somewhat heavy, and no curse present was her match.

Dozens of crows flew into the temple as well to aid her in battle. Empowered by cursed energy, they were like the sharpest projectiles, tearing through the bodies of curses that tried to sneak up on her.

In about a few minutes, the entire temple was transformed into a bloody and gory site, and Mei walked out of the encounter victorious and even unsatisfied from the challenge.

Waving her axe, the blood stains splashed off and she hefted it back onto her shoulder and began to walk away after double checking and ensuring the temple was cursed free.

Taking out her phone from her pocket, she went to her messages and frowned, seeing no bank notification and then went straight to her call logs, only to see several missed calls from the number stored as "Crazy!"

"Almost a week in and crazy hasn't sent me my money. I'll just take off one limb as interest when we meet.."

She chuckled to herself and began walking out of the temple, scrolling through her phone.

But..

A few meters from the main temple gate she suddenly halted as her brows furrowed.

*CAW!* *CAW!*

The crow on her shoulder began to caw loudly, and she turned around, bringing down her axe from her shoulders and looking in a particular direction.

"To what do I owe the pleasure.."

She chuckled, but the billowing curse energy in her body betrayed the smile on her face. Slowly, several footsteps rang out, and multiple figures walked out of the shadows, dressed in black and blue kimonos, holding onto long katanas. Their faces were masked but the insignias on their uniforms gave her all the intel she needed on who the intruders were.

"Fucking Zen'in clan.."

She took in a deep breath, and her readied herself for battle, as the men slowly drew out their katanas and got into fighting stances.

*Step!*

But before the battle could begin, a kimono draped figure walked out the shadows with a small amicable smile on his face. H had a gentle and handsome visage, like a refined gentleman, but the stitch like scar on his forehead warped the gentleness about him and coupled with the snarky conniving look in his eyes, he looked menacing.

"Little Mei, what a pleasant surprise."

The man opened his mouth, and a gentle voice sounded out with a convincing edge to it.

"Hahaha!"

Looking at the line up who looked anything but friendly, any ordinary person would be utterly terrified, but Mei looked towards them and laughed.

"We just need you to come with us. If you're found not guilty of the charges against you, I'll personally apologise for this mess."

The man spoke with a convincing tone, but Mei snorted coldly.

"And what charges are those?"

"It's being insinuated that you've been associating yourself with a certain rogue rebel. He's a...THING that should not exist, an anomaly. His very existence is the bane to the evolution and ascension..."

"I knew you were a lot of things, Kenzo, but crazy is not one of them.."

Mei looked at him, not understanding a single word he spouted from his mouth.

"Get her. But keep her alive. She's of more use to me that way.."

He waved his hand dismissively and walked away, as the attackers blitzed towards her with incredible speed, with blades raised and ready for battle.

...

The next day...

Nature has blessed Shinjuku with heavy rain this morning, cooling down the environment and lowering temperatures compared to the ever rising and unbearable hotness from yesterday.

At a bus stop in Shinjuku, around 7pm, a beautiful young girl stood dressed in a brown trench coat and held onto a pink umbrella. Her long blonde hair was let down and flowing in the wind, make up enhanced her already beautiful visage, and her eyes darted about left and right, as if waiting on someone while simultaneously ignoring the stares from the other civilians that walked by..

"What the hell is taking him so long? It's been almost thirty minutes!'

Her thoughts of displeasure were incredibly loud, and she continuously glanced at her phone, checking time which increased her fury.

She rummaged through her bag in exasperation and took out her phone, scrolled to the call logs and dialed a number. The phone vibrated continuously and her brows furrowed seeing as there was no answer. She dialed the number again, sighed and placed the phone back in her bag, before walking to the waiting spot and taking a seat.

Her head was hung low for a minute, but when she lifted it up, red filled her vision and she quickly made out the bouquet of flowers filling her vision as she stood up immediately.

Holding them, was none other than the person she had waited for more than half an hour for.

Sasuke stood with a small smile, which slowly turned into a frown, as he noticed the look of displeasure on her face.

"Took me a while to get the best flowers.."

He tried to argue his case, but she rolled her eyes and took in a deep breath, before turning to look back at him.

His dark hair was shaggy as usual, but he was dressed in simple blue jeans, a black inner shirt and an outer leather jacket, finished off by sneakers. Simple, yet, she couldn't take her eyes off.

She couldnt even stay mad and took the flowers and his outstretched arm, as they made their way to a nearby restaurant.

'Tempura Shinjuku Tsunahachi Souhonten'

A new and budding restaurant with hella 5 star reviews from previous customers. He felt like it was the best choice since it was close to them and offered a variety of dishes they could choose from.

Entering the restaurant, Sasuke nodded in appreciation of the aesthetics before walking to the reception.

"I made a reservation for a table. My name is Sasuke.."

"Your table is ready Sir, follow me."

He enquired and the receptionist smiled towards him and brought them to a table for two beside their glass window.

"You really put so much thought into this yeah..I'm impressed."

Mina smirked and took a sip of the champagne they were served with, before casting a glance at the nearly filled restaurant and back to Sasuke.

"You better enjoy it while it lasts.."

He smiled back, called for the waiter and placed their orders right away.

"When are you gonna propose yeah? A talking stage shouldn't last for so long.."

Mina rested her hand on her cheek and looked towards him, asking what was probably on everyone's mind.

"Cough!"

"I'd rather we take things slo----"

Sasuke coughed in response and nearly spat out his wine, but before he could complete his statement, his eyes widened in shock and he moved, reaching out towards Mina.

Time seemed to slow down in his eyes, but, behind her, the glass shattered as multiple projectiles shot towards her.

Sasuke grabbed her in time, as what looked like arrows shot into the building, impaling multiple innocent and unlooking civilians with immense speed, killing them instantly.

He used his body as a cushion and she landed on top of him, but she was unmoving.

Feeling a wet, sticky and warm sensation on his palm, Sasuke brought his hand into view only to see blood- an arrow lodged deep into her back.

"Fuck!!"

He cursed out in panic, but the next moment, several objects were flung into the restaurants which Sasuke instantly recognised.

Detonators!
