"You think I don't know that you secretly hate G–dawg?" Mrs. Humphrey spat, her fury clouding her vision. "Huh?! You've always resented him for being the heir I chose, for being the one to carry on the Humphrey name."
Mrs. Victoria's face paled, her eyes filling with tears. "That's not true, Mother," she protested, her voice shaking. "I love Gregory like my own son. I would never harm him."
Mrs. Humphrey's expression twisted in disgust. "Don't lie to me!" she screamed, her voice piercing. "I've seen the way you look at him, the way you've always compared him to your husband. You're jealous, Victoria. Jealous of G– dawg's success, jealous of his inheritance."
The room seemed to shrink, the tension between the two women suffocating. Mrs. Victoria's eyes darted around, resting on her husband, pleading with him to save her from his mother's wrath.
