Chapter 140 - Pleading guilty

During Valerie's hospitalization, Ruby split her time between Old Madam Wright's place, the Humphreys', and her father's office. One day, when Greg went to pick her up at the Humphrey's, Mrs. Humphrey suggested to Greg that Ruby should start school.

The reason was simple: whenever Ruby's cousins left for school, she was left feeling bored. Despite the Humphreys' best efforts to entertain her, their attempts couldn't replace the excitement of playing alongside her peers.

Greg considered the advice but decided to wait until Valerie recovered, wanting to discuss the decision with her and consider any schools she might prefer.

Now, on the eve of the court hearing, Miss Liam allowed Valerie to return home to prepare, citing her stabilized condition. However, a stern warning accompanied this reprieve: Valerie must avoid stress triggers.

Valerie's homecoming brought mixed emotions - relief, anxiety and a hint of uncertainty.
