The doctor's brows furrowed, concern etched on his face. If this continues, the needle might break into her skin. He pulled out the syringe and sighed.
"Please, relax your muscles, Miss," he coaxed, his voice soft and soothing. "The injection won't make you forget; it will calm your heart so you can face your memories."
Valerie's gaze locked onto the doctor's, her eyes pleading yet defiant. She couldn't believe any word he said. Valerie knew that the injection was a sedative-hypnotic, designed to calm her turmoil and prepare her for the memory suppression procedure.
She remembered going through this process a number of times. After this injection, she won't recall anything anymore. "Don't…" she shook her head, pleading. "Please, don't…"
"It's okay, Miss," he reassured. "This will help you find peace."
"Valerie, please, be still. Everything will be over soon." Her father intervened, his gaze pleading.
