Ruby's eyes widened as she gazed around the enormous living room, bigger than any house she'd ever entered. The plush wine colored carpet felt like silk beneath her feet, and the crystal chandelier above cast a display of colors across the walls. The air was thick with the scent of fresh flowers, and the soft hum of classical music floated through the space.

"Uncle James, this is not my great grandma's place," Ruby finally spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. Her gaze snapped to James, who stood beside her, a reassuring smile on his face.

"Of course, it is," James replied, but Ruby's protest continued.

"No, this is not Nanna's place. Her place is smaller than this, and–"

Their heads snapped towards the stairs at the slightest sound. An elegantly dressed old woman descended the stairs with a couple other people, supported by a middle-aged woman.
