Chapter 10 - C.10 3 Years Later

*clang clang*

The sound of metal clashing echoed across the training grounds.

"You've improved," Hikari remarked calmly, parrying an upward strike and using Kazuki's momentum against him by redirecting it towards the ground.

"Not enough to beat you," Kazuki retorted, regaining his footing and slashing at Hikari's left side, trying to force him back.

"You'll get there... but not today." Hikari switched his sword hand, twisted his left side, and pressed forward. Kazuki was caught off guard, attempting to defend against the next strike, but—

*clang thuk*

Hikari struck at the weak point in Kazuki's grip, sending his sword flying.

*sigh*

"Don't be disappointed," Hikari said after seeing the dejected look on Kazuki's face. "You no longer lack in technique, and you'll improve as you gain more experience."

Hikari's tone softened, but his words carried weight. "Now leave. Your training ends today. Take the rest of the day off and prepare for tomorrow's entrance examination."

"The entrance exam for Regia Nevaris is the toughest in all three kingdoms, and I want you not only to pass but to ace it. If you don't, you won't be able to compete against the Duke Heirs."

Hikari's eyes narrowed, and his voice took on a sharper edge. "And if it wasn't clear earlier, I will not be helping you in any way inside the Academy. I may be the headmaster, but I have my position to consider. I'll treat you like any other student."

Kazuki sighed, knowing there was no point in arguing. Hikari kept going, completely disregarding Kazuki's thoughts.

Then Hikari's next words chilled Kazuki to the bone. "Oh, by the way, if you don't place high in the exam, you may not be in any condition to attend the Academy after." The threat was blunt, and knowing Hikari, it was probably true.

"Yeah, yeah, I'll do well," Kazuki shrugged, almost running away from the training grounds.

'I know you will,' Hikari thought, glancing at Kazuki's metal sword lying on the ground. It was completely bent out of shape. Then he looked at his own sword—less damaged but still bent to the point where it would hinder his movements.

Hikari nodded, satisfied. 'His growth has been remarkable. I am sure he will do well on the tests.'
