As I followed Mom through the halls, I couldn't stop myself from feeling nervous about this.
What if it didn't work? I shook my head, trying to get rid of the doubt because there was nothing else left for us to do.
I had sleepless nights without Damien by my side; this had to work, or else I would stop at nothing just to make sure that he was with me once and for all.
I glanced at the leather pouch in my hand containing the items as we approached the garden where King Alastair waited.
The portal glimmered faintly, a soft hum filling the air as King Alastair stood there waiting for us.
"Are you sure about this?" he asked quietly, though the question was more for my mother than me. She nodded, her determination never faltering.
"We have to be. It's the only way." We stepped forward, and Mom began the ritual.
Her hands moved in slow patterns, drawing invisible lines in the air, and I felt the shift almost immediately.
