Robin kept tossing and turning in his bed throughout the night. In the morning it was apparent he was in heat. How the hell did he go into heat without warning? He thought there would be signs a week prior.
"You are burning," Robin's mom said, placing a hand on his forehead. "The maid is bringing in the suppressant but it's not going to help very much on your first heat."
"Mmm," Robin groaned as a new wave of heat spread across his body. He covered himself more and buried his body into the sheets. God, he should have researched more about managing the symptoms of heat.
"There are a few things you need to learn. I should have taught you these before but I never had the opportunity."
"I don't think I am in a condition to learn anything right now," Robin said from under the blankets.
"Robbie," his mom placed a hand on his shoulder. "The first heat is always excruciating. I am leaving a few things on your nightstand, you can use it to cope with the pain but it's going to be difficult. You can fight through this…be strong. All your omega brothers have done it…you can do it too. I will be here if you need me but this is your battle, you have to be brave enough to fight it."
"Can't you stay? I feel scared," Robin didn't remember when was the last time he felt this vulnerable. He usually prided himself on being self-sufficient.
"I wish I could but this is something you will have to do yourself."
Robin bit his lips, holding back the tears.
Robin turned to his side once his mother left. He would get through it, he said to himself. One of the maids came a few minutes later and left suppressants on his table.
Robin stayed under the blanket for as long as he could, shivering and groaning every time a wave of burning chill took over his body. He didn't want to move, didn't want to reach out to take the suppressants. Every movement made his body convulse, his skin burn, his muscles cramp. He thought if he could stay still for the entire duration of his heat, he could get over it but he was wrong.
His stomach cramped so hard he sat up and vomited all over the floor. The little bit of food he had managed to eat throughout the day all lay half-digested on the pristine white marble. He was sweating like a pig and feeling cold at the same time. He didn't remember his omega brothers' heat being this bad. But then he was too young to remember anything.
"God, save me," Robin cried, tears streaming down his face. His hands shook as he reached for the suppressants but they slipped from his palm and slid under the bed. There was no strength in his body to get down and retrieve the pill. He was going to die. That's how it felt. There was no way he would survive this. He should have called for the guards but ringing the bell would alert his mom and he didn't want his mother to see him like this. Didn't want her to think he was overreacting. Moreover, they won't be able to do anything. This was his issue and he had to deal with it alone.
Robin plopped down on the bed, curling himself in a fetal position. He sobbed, not able to handle the excruciating pain. Robin went still when he heard the window open followed by a loud thud of heavy boots on the floor. Robin turned on the bedside light to find Victor standing by the window.
"Victor?" Robin asked, his eyes going wide with fear. Was he finally going to kill him when Robin was at his weakest? Or was he here to rape him? Robin had heard stories of how the strongest of Alphas lost their minds around an Omega in heat.
"I could hear your cries from slave chambers," Victor growled. He took measured steps towards Robin's bed as if he was scared to spook him. Robin snatched the blanket closer to his body.
"Everyone could hear me?" Robin asked, feeling embarrassed.
"Not everyone. Only me," Victor said.
"How?"
"I have good ears." Victor stood by his bed and looked down at the mess on the floor. "Why is there no one to take care of you?" he asked.
"I didn't want to bother anyone," Robin said, groaning as a fresh wave of nausea hit him.
"Always thinking about others," Victor muttered. He walked to the bathroom and brought a wet rag with a bucket of water.
"What are you doing?" Robin asked, looking at him with horror as Victor kneeled and cleaned the floor.
There was something very sexy about seeing a masculine man cleaning the floor on his knees. Robin couldn't help but be mesmerized by Victor's wide shoulders and strong back even though he was wearing a peasant shirt.
"You didn't have to do that," Robin said when Victor was done. He went to the bathroom to clean himself while Robin waited impatiently for him to return.
"I don't want to slip on your vomit while I take care of you," Victor said when he came back.
Robin's stomach fluttered at the 'take care of you' part.
"How are you not getting affected by my pheromones?" Robin asked.
"Oh I am affected alright. But I know how to control my impulses," he said. Robin didn't miss the flick of his eyes as he looked down at his blanket-covered body.
"I am going to lie down," Robin said, feeling lethargic. Victor's presence was calming him. The excruciating pain from moments ago had subsided.
Victor kept staring at him, a frown marrying his forehead. He tucked a strand of Robin's hair behind his ear. Robin shuddered at the touch.
"That felt nice," Robin groaned.
"I know," Victor said. "I am still amazed at how there is not a whole parade of maids at your service at a time like this."
"Omegas need to do this alone," Robin muttered.
"Of course. And who made that rule? Your father?"
"God," Robin groaned as his stomach twisted again.
"Did you take the suppressor?" Victor asked.
Robin shook his head. "It fell."
"Where?"
"Under the bed."
Victor squatted down and retrieved the pill. "Come on, sit up." He placed a warm hand on Robin's back and sat him up. The simple touch soothing the tensed muscles of his back. He gave him the pill and water.
"Will I be fine now?" Robin asked as he swallowed the medicine with water.
"Suppressants only shorten the duration of your heat and reduce the pheromones. It does not help with the pain and…other things."
"Oh," Robin said, feeling disappointed. "I don't think I can take the pain anymore."
Victor caressed his cheek. "I am sorry."
"About what?" Robin frowned.
"About not being able to help you."
"But you are helping me," Robin said.
Victor didn't reply. "Come on, you need a bath."
Before Robin could protest Victor picked him up and took him to the bathroom. He ran the bath and filled the tub with warm water.
"This will help with sore muscles," Victor said, lowering Robin into the water.
"Heavens," Robin groaned. It felt nice yet painful at the same time.
"Come on, scoot forward," Victor said before climbing inside the bathtub and sitting behind him.
"What are you doing?" Robin squeaked.
"What do you think?"
"You are getting all wet," Robin yelled.
"I don't care," Victor said before extending his legs on both sides of him and pulling Robin back to rest on his body. It amazed Robin how big Victor was. His head barely touched Victor's chin. Victor ran fingers on the smooth skin of his legs. Robin would have protested if his touch didn't feel so incredible. He wanted to melt into his body.
"Relax," Victor whispered in his deep voice. "I am going to help you with the pain."
"How do you know this is going to help?" Robin asked, leaning back on his solid chest.
"Our schools in Dhashur teach Alphas and Omegas all about heats and ruts. They taught us how to take care of ourselves and our partner."
"Really?" Robin couldn't imagine his school talking about heat or rut. Everything they learned was censored.
Robin massaged his aching muscles. "How does this feel?"
"Amazing," Robin said, arching his back.
Robin could fall asleep. Victor's hands were magic. He had never felt this relaxed in his life. But then he was also aware of Victor's looming presence behind him. A solid mass of domineering Alpha.
Robin could hear Victor's laboured breathing. Almost felt the stiffness in Victor's body, like he was scared of what would happen next.
"Are you okay?" Robin asked.
"Shh…" Victor crooned. Victor kept running his rough hands up gently up and down his legs, his back, his arms. Robin couldn't believe how gentle those big Alha hands were. It was as if he was all over him, healing all the burning inches of his skin.
"Yesss," Robin hissed. It felt incredible. He could come apart if Victor continued like this.
"One day our child will…" Victor stopped what he was saying and went stone still.
Robin chuckled. "Do you have a breeding kink, Victor?"
Victor didn't answer.
"Victor?" Robin prompted, looking back. There was an unusual look in Victor's eyes. "What happened?"
Victor shook his head looking distraught. "I shouldn't have said that."
"It's okay. People say all sorts of things in the heat of the moment."
Victor didn't reply. He removed his hands and got out of the bath. "Someone left some stuff on your dressing table. Do you know how to use them?" Victor asked, sounding distant. Robin missed his hands on him. But something changed within Victor. His eyes weren't as soft as it was a few seconds ago. He looked focused. All business now.
Robin felt empty without Victor's presence near him. He shook his head in answer. "My mom. I think I will be fine. She left me a manual as well."
"Are you in the head space to read a manual and understand what it says?"
Victor was right. Robin knew how difficult the language of those manuals was and with his condition, he would lose focus within a second.
"Get up. I will help you dry up." Victor dried Robin with a towel like a caregiver would his patient. Once Robin was dry, Victor removed his own clothes and put on a towel robe, hanging by the door. The thing hardly fit him.
He picked Robin once again and put him on the bed. Robin looked in amazement as Victor walked to the nightstand and assessed the toys his mom had left him.
"Here," Victor handed him one of the toys from the nightstand. "This should help you relax.
"Or you could take me. I won't mind it," Robin said, although in the back of his mind he knew he would regret it later when the heat subsides.
"You won't mind?" Victor asked, his eyes hard. "I thought you were saving yourself for your mate."
"When did I say that? I will never be tied down to an Alpha."
"Tied down? You mean liberated?"
A sharp pain stabbed Robin's stomach, reminding him how bad his condition was. "Liberated?" Robin laughed. "You can leave if you don't want me. You don't have to be an ass about it."
"Such language from the righteous Prince. It doesn't suit you. The hormones must be getting to your head."
Robin lies down on the bed once again, the body rearing up for another painful episode.
"There is no point in running from your mate. You know what that does to an Alpha."
Robin's heart went ice cold. "I don't want to be claimed." Even as he said so, his body screamed for a companion.
"An omega goes in heat for his mate. That's how nature intended it to be."
Victor's words were sending him to the edge like nothing ever could.
"Please Victor, stop saying things like that. You came here to take care of me then why are you torturing me?."
Victor's hard eyes softened. He sighed. "You are right. I am sorry."
He dreaded the day he would meet his mate.
"Hope you don't meet your mate in this damning hell," Victor said. "But make no mistake, you will meet him. And you will love him. Desire him. Give him all your heart. You understand?"
Robin nodded despite himself. He didn't know if he had in him to deny Victor anything, especially not tonight. All the fight had left his body and he completely surrendered to Victor.
