Chapter 17 - Dungeon Hall

Dungeon Hall

 ━━Fructor Osmond's Perspective

Osmond is a veteran high school teacher in charge of Class 4, Year 1.

He currently teaches English, but previously taught Anomalous Materials Studies.

He's not just an English teacher, he's a former doctor of dungeonology.

Because Osmond experienced many "unusual" things at the Dungeon Foundation, he is not easily shaken by ordinary things and always carries himself in a cheerful and easy-going manner.

 I thought so.

 A certain day in May.

One day, the rainy season was approaching.

Osmond was in high spirits from the morning, having sex with his wife and no doubt knowing that today would be another great day. He enjoyed his breakfast coffee and toast, and headed off in his beloved Lamborghini to work, where he was blessed with wonderful colleagues.

As I left home and waited at the third traffic light, the AI voice built into the car told me I had an urgent message from school.

"Can you show me?"

As he said that, a message appeared on the monitor, and Osmond immediately realized that something was wrong, so he stepped on the accelerator harder than usual.

When we arrived at the school, the Dungeon Foundation's riot police were already deployed on the school grounds.

The teachers, including Osmond, had been called into an emergency meeting in the staff room.

"The dungeon hall."

After waiting for all the teachers to gather, the vice principal spoke solemnly.

A commotion spread through the staff room.

"I never thought a dungeon hole would happen..."

"What is a dungeon hall?"

The novice teacher asked Osmond in a small voice, sounding apologetic.

"A dungeon hole is an abnormal phenomenon that occurs in dungeons. It is considered an attack on the outside world, and it forcibly drags explorers near the dungeon into the dungeon. Then, the dungeon becomes sealed off."

"Everyone please stay calm. We can't afford to let this happen."

The vice principal controls the situation with a clear voice.

"The ones caught up in the dungeon hall are students from our school. At this point, over 60 people have been confirmed as trapped in the dungeon."

"60 people... it looks like there will be more. What about the Dungeon Foundation?"

"We are currently investigating, but it is likely that there is nothing that can be done. The entrance to the dungeon hall will be spatially sealed off. It will become an isolated dimension that cannot be interfered with from the outside."

The school was closed on that day.

There were no classes, and only a safety check was conducted under the guise of attendance confirmation.

When it was discovered that 82 students had been caught up in the Dungeon Hall, Hero High School and the Dungeon Foundation had completed setting up barricades around the dungeon gate.

In the evening, teachers who were knowledgeable about dungeons, the riot police, and agents dispatched by the Foundation were gathering around a huge crater at the back of the school.

There is a static electricity-like energy bubbling around the area where the hole has collapsed, and at the bottom of the hole stands a sinister black gate.

"The dungeon gate that was supposed to have been destroyed... is it still not dead?"

"You seem worried, Mr. Fracter."

"David-senpai... Of course, there are a lot of victims in my class."

"It'll be fine. They're studying hard every day. Even if we can't help them from the outside, the students inside should be able to solve this situation on their own."

David and Osmond stare at the dungeon gate at the bottom of the crater.

Those on the outside could only hope for great things from the apprentice explorers.

 ━━Akatani Makoto's Perspective

Just when you think you're floating, you crash into something hard.

A thud ran through my whole body. A pointless thought crossed my mind: what would it be like to be hit by a truck? It hurt like hell.

"Ugh, I'm going to die, I'm going to die, have I broken any bones?"

He gets up, groaning in pain.

I touched the body lightly. There didn't seem to be any bones sticking out or broken.

Let's check the status just in case.

Although the damage was modest, the loss was small compared to the pain.

I'm holding on with 53 stamina remaining.

Is it because of the defensive stat? The defense is incredible!

Those black chains that dragged me in... what on earth were they?

I think Treecat was something like "a dungeon appears."

Maybe a dungeon appeared in my room and I was sucked into it?

 Look around.

A brick walkway, giving off a civilised atmosphere, continues to the front and back.

There was no light source in the passageway, but it was faintly bright. Visibility wasn't great, but it wasn't impossible to see anything.

"It's a dungeon..."

I've seen something like this in a textbook before.

I've watched dungeon walkthrough videos on DungeonTube before, so the atmosphere here feels somewhat familiar.

There are countless types of dungeons.

There are labyrinth type, field type, and dungeon attribute types, and they all have natural cave-like appearances or, like this one, man-made appearances...

 I stand up unsteadily.

It was a good idea to grab my dungeon equipment right away.

If there was one thing I did wrong, it was that I was shirtless because I had just completed the point mission "push-ups". My muscles were exposed.

Oh well, the jersey doesn't offer much protection.

Unless you're wearing special equipment, it doesn't really matter whether you're clothed or shirtless.

I grip the trunk again and put the syringe in my pocket.

"Why was I dragged into the dungeon... what should I do?"

 I start walking aimlessly.

"Shivaa♪"

A cute Shiba Inu appears from around the corner.

 The size is about knee-length.

"Shivaaa~!"

"Mmm, that's nice, come on!"

"Shivaaa! Shivaaa! --Shivaa!!"

The Shiba Inu bares its fangs and shouts the name of the god of destruction.

I grabbed it by the scruff of its neck and slammed it into the ground with a loud roar of power, shattering the stone bricks and destroying the Shiba Inu to pieces.

The Shiba Inu twitches and turns into particles of light.

"This Akaya Makoto, I'm not so naive as to be fooled by a cutesy dog."
