Chapter 16 - An eternal promise

"The day you vanished, our master fell into a great panic. She completely forgot her bearing as the Heretic devil empress and scoured every inch of the southern abyss." Babel sighed after which she continued.

"She knew the abstruse gemstone had responded to you and that you had probably been transported somewhere beyond our realm, but she could not let go of even the slightest hope that she would find you again.

We her servants, have never seen her that way before, even up until the time I left, she did not eat nor sleep, it was as if a part of her had died. Her affection for you runs deeper than anything I have ever seen before." Babel finished. She had already risen to a seating position whe Canaan lovingly drew her back into his embrace.

She shivered slightly as she was unused to this, but still meekly let him hold her as a red blush adorned her cheeks.

"What is happening to me?" She wondered, amazed by her current state.

A strange sweetness clung to her heart and refused to dissipate and as she felt Canaans arms around her sh realizes she had never bedore felt a greater state of contentment and peace.

It was as if she has been born to be with him and had lived an unsatisfactory life while being ignorant of this fact and now that she was curled up against his form, her soul glowed with contentment.

"I also have deep feelings for Heide." Canaan finally said. "Pure, unadulterated and bottomless hate. She made my life a living hell and completely and utterly shattered me."

Then the agitation in his voice was smothered under immense love as he stared at Babel and spoke. "But you stiched the broken pieces back together, and made me feel that fate was not so cruel. So no matter what I will always love you more than life, and just the same, I will hate Heide for an eternity.

But I am also aware that killing her and harming you are one and the same, so I swear not to harm her no matter what, well not that i have the ability to do so, in the first place." Canaan said with a soft sigh as he carressed Babel's cheek warmly.

Indescribable emotion bloomed in Babel's heart, unfortunately it was soon overcome by guilt and and sorrow.

"Canaan I know my master hurt you and she does not deserve your forgiveness, but....there is much you do not know...."Babel sighed.

Canaan curiously glanced at her beautiful side profile and smiled.

The room grew quiet, save for the sound of their intertwined breaths, and Babel's thoughts drifted to Heide, her sister whose love had become a destructive force.

She knew that Heide's descent into madness was not born of malice, but rather from a place of deep pain.

"Canaan," she began, her voice a mere whisper, "you must understand Heide. She wasn't always like this." Babel paused, her eyes misting over with the weight of the unspoken past.

"She lost an entity that she was very attached to." she continued, her gaze distant and haunted.

"Eons ago, when the world was still young, A tragedy that would couse eventual ruin of the devil gods occured and Heide was at the center of it.

The pain she felt, was so unbearable that it fractured her mind. To fill that void, she became obsessed with the idea of possessing love, of having someone so utterly devoted to her that they could never leave. And when she found that in you," she said, her voice cracking.

""The obsession grew into something darker. Something that could never be satiated. It unlocked the beast that already dwelt within her, a beast born from the ashes of her shattered heart." Babel continued.

"And so you suffered for it....but these few years after you left she has dwelt in self reproach and regret. Initially her mind devolved into madness until even that could not numb her to the sorrow anymore.

On several occasions she has said that she can only imagine the terror she drilled into your bones and that she wished to only compensate you-"

"By controlling me with a slave imprint?" Canaan interrupted with a the snort.

"Actually, I lied, the 'slave imprint' was mere a soul mark that would alert her to your location at all times. It was her desire that whoever found you implant it so she could immediately tear through space and find you again." Babel asserted.

Canaan was just about to speak when wave of dark devilish power surged in waves, crashing mildly into the air around him.

He slowly sat up and spread out his arms as he sensed the changes occurring in his body with great disbelief.

His seal was actually unravelling.

Babel also sensed the changes within him and smiled with joy. Of course she knew this was happening..

In this world, pure devil gods possessed a virgin energy that would flow to the first perso they copulated with when they were joined.

Once absorbed this new energy could bolster their divine power to new height. The density and purity of this energy, depended on the level of strength of its origin.

Babel as powerhouse of the abyss, no doubt possessed a matchless and pure virgin energy.

And as Canaan took in this high level energy, it had sunk into his core and provoked the collapse of his seal which was now slowly unravelling.

"Your power has returned!?" Babel asked in excitement, truly happy that such a beautiful consequence had come from their union.

"No it hasn't, not completely, as of now I only possess the power of the puny silver class devil gods of this world but, I can feel the rest of the seal slowly burning away. It will not be long now!" Canaan said with barely contained exuberation.

A bit euphoria overcame him as a mischievous glint appeared in his eyes.

"Kyaaah" Babel screamed in alarm as Canaan flipped her over and pressed himself on her.

"Again!?" Babel said somewhat nervously, and yet her tone concealed a dash of excitement and expectation.

This time Canaan had not let her go for several hours. After they had both vented their animalisti lust, they returned to finding joy in eachothers warm embrace.

"I really wont ever let you go" Canaan said after a while, his tender embrace and heartfelt words washed over Babel like a gentle stream, soothing the jagged edges of her guilt and fear.

She whispered back, "I'll stay with you, Canaan," her voice thick with unshed tears.

.....

"After you left we were all sent to various regions of the universe to find you at all cost." Babel explained as she lovingly draped a rope around Canaans sculpted chest.

She was recounting how she had found herself on this planet, and how she had assumed the identity of Lady Raya of the blood wraiths.

"I was led here by my intuition, and because I needed eyes and ears around the world, I took a more modest appearance and subjugated one of the lords of the great devil god houses of this world."

"And by subjugate you mean...." Canaan asked with a palpable but slight anger hiding within his voice.

Babel laughed cutely before continuing. "I am a dream spirit my love. In his own world I am his queen, the apple of his eye who he makes love to every night.

But those will forever remain his dreams, for how could such a low and base creature deserve to touch even the fringes of my clothes." She finished in a frigid voice devoid of all mercy.

For a moment she seemed to assume the role of Heide's cold blooded servant once more before she caught herself and her eyes softened.

"What happened after I lost consciousness?" Canaan asked, cursing the fact that he had been too preoccupied with a lustful fit to ask before.

"I sense worry in your voice. Is it for that young blood wraith girl? I also smell her scen on you...." Babel's voice quite towards the end of its sentence. She was surprised at her discomfort at knowing this fact: that Canaan might have feelings for someone that wasn't her.

"I will not lie to you. She is also someone I can never let down. I owe her far too much." Canaan said with a sigh.

Babel nodded with understanding, her earlier discomfort did not vanished though.

Still she had born witness to the events of the Godfall blood palace. She had seen how defensive Talia had gotten when Canaan had been threatened. It was difficult to hate someone who had treated the man she loved with such sincerity.

Babel finally answered Canaan's question. "The mortal slave was taken to prison per Talia's order. It was the only way to diffuse the situation, and no one would harm him there."

She continued: "After you had been attacked she flew Into a great fury and destroyed the hall, killing all the Lowee ranked blood wraiths and the Sentinel devil lord. Then she chased away Prince Konsul. After that...."

Babel began, however as if she had remembered something extremely worrying her lips suddenly stopped moving as her expression changed.

"What..what happened?" Canaan asked worriedly as he noticed the strangeness in her voice.

But she didn't answer, rather the next sound to fill the air was that of a messenger servant hurriedly tumbling through the doors of her chamber.

A crimson glow burst from her form as she assumed the appearance of lady Raya once more.

.....

The messenger after entering, immediately gell onto his knees in salute.

"I greet the que-"

"No need!" Babel asserted as she raised up her right hand.

"I only need you to inform me on the result you obtained from the task I had asked you to complete." Babel commanded.

The prisoner replied with a respectful nod beofre begining. "There was no trace of him in our prison, no traces at all, it as if he never existed." The messenger said expressionlessly.

Immediately Canaan's eyes darkened beyond compare. His worst fears had actually come to pass. "What of the fate of the others withinnthe prison." He inquired with stormy eyes.

The prisoner glanced at him and the Babel with a light suspicion before conti and. "Surprisingly they are all shouldering several labors throughout the house. Only the one you asked me to find is missing, only of him there is no trace." The messenger repeated.

"Don't worry too much. Talia chased way Konsul, and no devil god will lower themselves to slay him without resson. Besides people are always more useful alive than dead. Why would the house kill a slave they can sell or use.?" Babel comforted, to her credit the storms on Canaan's expression lifted slightly.

Unfortunately they returned the next moment with a far greater ferocity.

"He is a human!" Canaan revealed through painfully gritted teeth.

Babel's words died in her throat as she realised the source of his worry.

"It all makes sense!" She said woodenly, finally understanding why the house of Oceanus would target a mere mortal.

If he was a human with a nihility aura, it would all make sense
