Chereads / Awoken Witch: Inverted Mirror / Chapter 8 - Recurrence or Coincidence

Chapter 8 - Recurrence or Coincidence

Raon hurriedly entered one of the offices on the HQ's first floor, which was basically made up of a holographic projector and a ring-shaped table around it; she took her seat, the one with the golden engravings and dragon heads on the knobs, while two more people entered, one of them looking on his fifties, who greeted urgently:

- Director.

- Mr. Han, tell me already, why are you calling me instead of resolving this matter yourself?

- Good evening, director - a woman interrupted.

The person who had just spoken and bowed to greet had been Hoo Eun-mi, the administrator. She was mainly responsible for ensuring that internal bureaucratic procedures, assignments and accommodations of personnel at all levels got arranged on schedule in an agile and efficient manner. But now, her deputy in Shanghai and lots of data had just fallen victim to a fatal blow.

- Mrs. Hoo, how does this security matter concern you? – Raon asked sarcastically.

- You know it very well. The files there can compromise the secrecy of the agency; if the situation's not controlled, physical data will leak. And if saving it gets unfeasible, we'll have to destroy it all.

- Huh, right as always - the director responded proudly - I see I chose well, after all.

- Not only that; if the formulas and serums kept inside are stolen, especially by our enemies...

- It's true. We can't allow it, so we should act now, don't you think? Did you appoint a team?

- It's done.

- So, what am I doing here? Take care of it…

- Director, someone has been trying to send a transmission to this office but refuses to speak to anyone except you. It appears to use…a shortwave radio.

- And what are you waiting for? Put it on the speaker.

The administrator pressed a couple of buttons on the projector, which showed the greenish image of an emitting antenna, representing a live audio format:

- We are transmitting, go ahead director...

- This is a confidential channel. No unauthorized transmissions can reach this receiver. Identify yourself.

- Yes, yes, it's you... - said a female voice, with sounds of blasts and screams on the background.

- Wait, Min Hae Jun? Ah...I see you're still breathing...

- Director Kim, we got a breach in the Shanghai lab; armed attackers entered suddenly and…

- Oh really...? Don't you get tired of disappointing me, agent Min? Your job was to prevent it.

The heavy-fire noises continued, and Raon heard Hae Jun's breathing as she fired back, or dodged the enemy's attacks:

- The security systems failed when an anomaly surrounded us. They appeared next, out of thin air.

- What anomaly are you talking about? I wasn't briefed on that... - she said, looking at Han.

- We intervened nearby recon satellites, but haven't been able to make visual confirmations in the area or map personnel locations from the comms area – he responded.

- It is irregular - said Eun-mi - absolutely nothing has come out about that supposed anomaly you mention. Possibly a local cover-up.

Hae Jun continued, following their confrontation:

- We didn't find the point of origin of the enemy insertion, and then, the whole place...changed, I lost contact with the rest of the personnel. I don't understand what's happening...

- Where are you now, agent? – Han asked.

- In the main warehouse, sir. I'm hurt, and I can't…regenerate…it's never happened before.

- Nobody detected them? It's impossible. Did you at least identify the aggressors? Does anyone know who they are?

- No ma'am; their stamps I've never seen, could be fake. A hammer hitting a serpent.

- Huh? – Raon questioned - There's no such group. Not here, at least...

- There's something else...unauthorized civilians in the facilities, they're felling them and...the environment, there's something wrong in the air, I don't have good visibility.

- Civilians?! – the director exclaimed – And where did they come from?! Tell me!

- I don't know either, went down a hallway and from one moment to the next...there were several people fleeing from the attackers; please, director, I need…support…

- Do you wait for me to do everything for you? Don't try my patience...

- Wait a minute...I think...I think I lost them. I'll try to sneak and regain visuals...

And there, a thought came to the director's head; Hae Jun was the leader of the Awakened Ones assigned to protect the key Shanghai laboratories, and if she was having trouble containing a situation against what appeared to be simple armed soldiers, there were factors at play she didn't yet know about. Not only that, but all the strange circumstances that she described so far could not be some delusion; she was now reflecting on the nature of the phenomenon hovering over her, what seemed to exist behind, from a coordinated attack, distraction, and in the worst case, betrayal.

- Hold your position – Raon ordered – I will send reinforcements.

- Thank you, I mean...roger...

- If you fail...if there's even the slightest leak...we'll begin demolition, with or without you inside...

- Ma'am, I had a visual of the hostiles again; they entered a vehicle near the dock. I'll wait for now.

Raon stood up, thereby adjourning the brief session. She then said to Han:

- I hope that helicopter is ready.

- It is. The wait in the hangar.

He then addressed Hae Jun:

– See you there. Don't lose sight of them.

Hae Jun's sight was already blurring:

- I will await your instructions. Over and out.

The director left quickly, and soon enough took the elevator to access the newly assembled underground hangar, hidden in the face of the southern cliff, camouflaged behind a holographic projection of which seabirds, or any intruder, were separated by microwave emitters. At that same moment, the runway had no more activity than that of one of the stealth helicopters, which began to rotate its double rotors at full speed to transport the team and insert it behind the maritime borders of a non-allied country; it wasn't a recon model nor a transport. That vehicle had been designed in the United States for special missions like this within a contract that never occurred with an arms corp, the same old story; It was obvious, since equipment such as active camouflage, hydrogen power source and supersonic thrusters were not available to everyone.

- Crimson Angel, do you copy me? – Raon called on comms.

- Copied, ma'am. The suit just came out the cleaner – answered the pilot.

- Good. We got special guests tonight.

She cut, and the helicopter door was pushed open by one of the escorts, Seo Jin; with him were Chae Gun, Yoo Ah Ra, the base's medical officer, a secgen she didn't recall, as well as Koo Jae Won, the best telekinetic, and Hwan U Dae, a stocky guy known as "the wrecker", his specialty. With them were also four firstgens, also clad in their tactical equipment, as well as an agent of the so-called "one point fives", so called as they were biological children of firstgen agents; the one she couldn't remember looked at him as if she were a wolf, her face adorned with small scarifications. Raon got into a seat and Chae Gun silently handed her a box, which upon opening revealed a folded suit just like the ones the others were carrying; she took off her blouse and put on the suit:

- Wait!

Someone had shouted from outside; It was S-1, who quickly approached the scarred girl, looking straight into her cold eyes even more coldly, her equipment showing signs of a recent fight:

- Get down.

Growling under her breath, the agent obeyed and retreated down the runway; Raon questioned:

- What are you doing sister? You just came back; it's been six months on the field.

 - Wherever you go, I'll go - she responded

S-1 got on the vehicle, and put on her helmet as she took her seat

- Always - she ended.

- You must start taking the promises you make less personally. I needed you to cover me here.

- Administrator Hoo can take care of it for a few hours. This won't take long.

- Huh, you've always been too stubborn... - the director replied.

She tapped on the window between the cockpit and the driver, communicating with the pilot again while Seo Jin closed the vehicle door again:

- Crimson Angel, we're leaving.

- Understood. We are ready to take off.

Signaling to the co-pilot, they took the controls and moved switches so that they began to rise; After being at a height of about five meters or more, they turned 45 degrees, then propelled themselves towards the front at increasing speed, and from one moment to the next they had already left the holographic barrier behind. Flying over the sea at dusk, they began to ascend into the skies, and the thrusters were activated; thanks to them, it would not be but in a matter of half an hour that they would find themselves in international waters, where, unlike what the United Nations used to assure, all kinds of ships and illegal acts happened with impunity:

- Any suspicious activity on the LiDAR?

- Negative, ma'am - responded the co-pilot - No one's intercepting us.

More time passed while the sun hid completely on the horizon, gradually giving way to the purple shadow of twilight to the infinite black void of the stars that from where they were it would be very easy to appreciate. The firstgens took advantage of the time they had to talk, of course in the lowest voice that their prudence allowed, about anything that had happened to them, work, field missions, simple routine or things as everyday events like the wedding of one of their nieces. Raon of course didn't pay more attention to it than necessary; she already knew more than enough about each of her subordinates, or at least she accessed such information from her computer or curved screen.

Finally they received a new notification from the pilot:

- We have crossed into Chinese territorial waters. Activating camouflage.

- How much? – Raon asked

- T minus 7 minutes.

- Copied.

S-1 then calls the attention of everyone present, saying:

- I suppose everyone received the report for this mission, but anyway I will summarize; firstgen squad will secure the perimeter while director keeps local authorities out of the area.

Then he looked at Ah Ra, less coldly than at the others:

- Doctor Yoo and I will enter the facilities with Seo Jin and Chae Gun to screen the area and eliminate any hostiles.

- And what the hell will I do then? – said Hwan.

The twin turned to look at him with little veiled contempt:

- You and Jae Won will do area denial, handle the demolition in case a data breach is proven or if my sister orders it.

She then addresed everyone:

That's all. Did you understand?

- Ma'am, yes ma'am! – everyone said in unison, Raon watched.

Finally, the pilot had visual confirmation of the area; a vermilion halo could be clearly seen vibrating throughout its irregular contour, devouring a translucent area of stale air that even reached out to sea and hundreds of meters into the land. The perimeter was as circular as it could be but several things began to go wrong, forcing them to lower their altitude amid turbulence; while the invisibility field flickered inconveniently, the instruments suffered a breakdown, but that was not all. The co-pilot was the first to point out the irregularity using his binoculars, being able to see that the rear wall was demolished, in addition to equipment and a van that should not be there; the abandoned appearance of the exteriors and the apparent lack of paving were also quite strange.

- Director – said the co-pilot – we got visual confirmation of the anomaly. You'll want to see this.

She took her curved screen and connected it to the front camera feed, managing to see the bizarre landscape; as they approached, reflector lights and shots fired at the bottom of the vehicle greeted them. Everyone inside took cover and Raon switched to the rear camera; there were gunboats, although the serial numbers and insignia on them did not correspond to those on any database; these stopped firing once the helicopter reached the ground line, the camo activating again. Upon crossing that threshold, the cloudy air made the pilot maneuver cautiously, already with the thrusters off and the rotors beginning to go slower and slower due to instrument failures; as they went down, cars arrived at full speed.

After a rough turn, at less than 10 meters high, it made a descent amidst the parking lot, as if suddenly gaining weight, the lowered landing gear grinding, an impact felt by everyone; on S-1's signal to go ahead Seo Jin opened the door. The fristgens would go down under the orders of their leader, divided into two units to surround the facility, but soon were received by two patrol cars and an internal security van, already in front of them, the local security agents in firing position.

- Open fire! – the enemy officer ordered.

The gusts began; The firstgens made little progress, receiving great in their bodies while they used their minds to deflect all the bullets while returning fire, Ah Ra and S-1 just getting off behind them, waiting for their moment to act. Raon closed the door with her mind and opened the one at the other side of the cabin, getting out with the rest and being greeted by four more vans and eight well-armored riot patrols in front, forming a barrier, many more enemies also waiting for them.

They were surrounded.

- Hmph...I think they don't know what they face - Raon said.

The director disappeared from the sight of those who began shooting at them with pistols, assault rifles and teargas grenades, and so did her other henchmen even before the cloud of whitish smoke spread in the area, the enemy line was sent in search of their supposed victims. They would find, nothing but their ends, however; a first scream was heard, followed by calls, another scream, followed by more desperate calls from the communicators and shots fired at will while closing ranks back to back, blurred shadows barely escaping the periphery of their vision. Some made the mistake of ditching their mask out, and that's how the first rookie in the formation was lifted into the air and thrown like a rag doll against others. Seo Jin's smiling face was barely visible before vanishing back into the mist.

They had no chance, they never had it, from the moment they had thought they caught the tiger in the trap; a new attack sent more enemies flying apart, thrown with a distraught expression right at the feet of their own companions before looking at a last shadow pushing them to darkness. Little by little the director approached her real target, the police commander, and what looked like a suited advisor who was at his side before the brawl. A first public security officer tried to surprise her by aiming at her back, but she was already expecting it, so the next moment he was left twisted on the ground.

Her objective was hiding in one of the trucks, and those who remained did not even notice that she passed right by them between them, getting rid of its only guardian. The commander saw the door being thrown into the air, the compartments apparently moving on their own, hearing a voice:

- Tell your superiors to keep their end of the deal if they don't want this to happen again.

The officer emptied his magazine into the smoky air, but as he finished the last shot, his hand hung livid and his body fell forward. A stuttering suited man cowered in a corner, only managing to mumble in broken Korean:

- No...I don't know, what deal?...who, who are you?

- Ah, so let's play...

Without moving a single finger, he made the man's hand bend upward, and then his foot, making him squeal like a pig, leaving him to suffer a shock and lose consciousness. When Raon came outside, the gas cloud had dissipated, and the vehicles with their engines still running had been completely abandoned except for two of the trucks, where her escorts were dumping and piling up the broken remains of their enemies. Hwan, grinning sickly from ear to ear, was turning on his lighter while Jae Won remotely uncapped the fuel tanks with her telekinesis; once the job was completed, Seo Jin and Chae Gun joined their superior while the wrecker ignited it all.

- "Sister, report" – Raon said telepathically.

- "Hostiles eliminated. I'm with Dr. Yoo, we entered the facility."

- "What about you, agent Yoon?"

- "We're patrolling right now, haven't found any more enemies. Boats are still there."

Behind Raon raised an immense column of fire spinning furiously like an infernal whirlwind while it exploded, contained within one place by Jae Won's mind, the wrecker had emerging from the flames, removing the burning embers from his combat suit. Up front laid the fallen combatants, some on the ground, others on top of or crossed inside the vehicles they used, now destroyed and scattered in their line of vision:

- Seo Jin, Chae Gun, you should be in there too, move...

Both looked at each other and quickly headed up the steps directly to the entrance which, for some reason, was no longer a double gate with scanners and biometric keys, but a simple half-rusted mesh fence marked by bullet holes, made from the inside, the director realizaed.

- You two - Raon exclaimed - I won't take risks. Plant the charges, leave nothing behind.

Hwan and Jae Won also entered, and then, after passing behind the door, it happened; the trembling air wavered more than usual, and a flash of light came to him from above. Looking up at the sky, they realized the blue color had returned. Looking down once again she took a step back in astonishment; there were no vehicles in the place, nor was the pyre, and the double doors of the laboratory had reappeared. Likewise, the front had returned to normal, so making her way to the entrance, where the AI immediately recognized the DNA print and let her in.

She passed the front rooms of the first floor, basically the control and offices, and ended up meeting Chae Gun in the somewhat familiar corridors, signs painted on the walls and floors indicating directions to different sections by color:

- Ma'am.

- Did you check this area? What about Seo Jin?

- He went to the main lab. And well, you should come with me, I rounded up some civilians.

- So it was true... - Raon said - Okay, take me to our stowaways.

While the director followed her escort, S-1 had arrived at the warehouse where she perceived the presence of life; she hurried at the sight of destroyed shelves and the hostile jumping to the floor. Fearing for Hae Jun's loss, she threw one shelf at the enemy, crushing him; stepping forward and looking, she confirmed agent Min's presence, but there was also someone else who laid her on her lap, someone she couldn't believe. It was only a couple of minutes ago that she and Ah Ra entered, but now it turned out that her sister had already arrived there; the mystery of how she put it aside when she saw her badly injured, without her regenerating.

She rushed to take her in her arms, and just after her she heard a gunshot in the background; From that precise moment, the thin air around her began to subside into her abnormal mirage until it completely disappeared. Running came Ah Ra, who, after taking off her helmet, and almost pounced over her fallen companion and the director to check them; in the latter she was able to perceive with her mind the internal bleeding of her abdomen, several broken bones, and a dislocated arm. She thought S-1 was fortunate enough to reach out and grab her just before she lost consciousness, as the fall could have worsened her injuries; Hae Jun was also badly injured and unconscious, with a pale tone to her skin and round wounds in various parts that weren't healing.

- Sister, wake up... - S-1 said worriedly.

- This is serious, their condition is critical – she said – We have to hurry and take them to HQ.

The doctor used her mind and began to take a couple instruments out of the triple first aid kit attached to her waist, including tweezers and suture thread, to assist the agent and remove the bullets one by one, always a cumbersome process, annoyingly painful as well as potentially lethal. For this reason, she had to proceed carefully after using alcohol to clean the entrances and exits of the projectiles while treating them, all while she levitated her a few centimeters from the ground in a horizontal position.

- Ah Ra - said the twin - What can I do?

- Serums capable of stimulating cell multiplication were kept here.

- I understand…

Without further ado, the vice-director simply laid her sister down very slowly, got up, and began searching among the shelves for a vial or bottle that was still intact in the midst of the disaster:

- I'll need two blue serums for somatic damage.

- And what else?

- Light blue serums should serve to counteract damage to the nervous system.

- Will it do?

- We don't know why the regeneration failed, so nothing is certain yet.

- I see... - said the twin.

- It is risky, but in principle it should serve to stabilize them, and we are running out of time.

Ah Ra took out of his first aid kit, which he carried in the form of three fanny packs tied to his waist and hips, a couple of adrenaline injections, to prevent his metabolic functions from turning off prematurely; he knew that he had to ensure respiratory function to avoid a cerebral infarction, although the risk of cardiac arrest remained. It was when, in one of the sideboards that was still more or less standing, he found among its half-folded shelves several vials still intact, among them five of those the medic had asked for:

- I found them! – S-1 exclaimed, going back – I'll take my sister, you take Hae Jun.

- Good - the doctor responded, and put the blue vial in a syringe - I proceed to inject.

He palpated the vein and inserted the needle into the director's arm, then took the other blue vial and did the same with Hae Jun, repeating the process immediately but this time with the light blue vials. Once finished, S-1 said:

- Let's go.

The doctor nodded, and took agent Min in her arms, while her partner carried that broken and bruised girl that she'd gone to find; she still couldn't believe the state of her, that same arrogant person she would've expected to see smiling, telling her it was all over and that she wanted dinner. He was thinking about what he would do if the worst really happened, not having the charisma or cunning of Raon, knowing little of the good in the world and too much of the crudeness, the human cruelty; she didn't doubt the enemies outside, but especially inside, would take advantage to exact revenge. No, she couldn't even contemplate it, she shouldn't, much less believe that after everything achieved, things would end this way, she wouldn't allow it, she would do everything in her hands so that that would not happen.

The agency would not disintegrate before her eyes. S-1 would sacrifice everything in order to save her only family.

The two left the warehouse and walked quickly through the corridors of the facility, while on the opposite direction, U Dae, Jae Won and two of the firstgens were passing by their side; they all showed a common trait when they saw them, amazement and fear of keep their stares. The telekinetic and the wrecker despised each other's company; on the one hand, the temperamental agent Koo, and on the other, the unpleasant Hwan, neither of them wanted to be there to begin with, and the director knew it, so she put them together to see if they would mature. But they were also assigned jointly to ensure that both the lab's infrastructure and its most delicate contents would be destroyed in the event that the police or PLA sent reinforcements less than 500 meters from the area; soon they might as well appear there.

At that moment, they dedicated themselves to the task of placing loads of C4 stored in a huge backpack on Hwan's side, and converting every piece of furniture or human remains in the place into fine molecular dust, on Jae Won's side; each explosive was placed amid joyful humming as the dust swirled. Pushing aside a disintegrating shelf with his foot, amidst coughing and fussing, Hwan looked at a motionless body in front of him; he looked around and made a mental note of the other three fallen on the ground, shouting at Jae Won:

- Hey you silly prick! Stop with that!

- And why would I, cretin?

Hwan pointed at the 4 beaten attackers:

- Weren't we supposed to come for these pieces of rubbish?

- Did you finish your assignment at least?

- Always, sweetheart...

- Fuck you - the other whispered - Then go and take them to Raon, see what he says - she replied sarcastically.

The wrecker, however, interpreted it literally, and with his crude telekinesis he maneuvered the four bodies and placed them on his broad shoulders as if they were bales of straw. It was there that he felt something... it was a heartbeat, a chest moving weakly, and observing closely, he smiled when he noticed that an enemy was still breathing.

- Oh, trust me, the director will love this when she wakes up... - he replied, going away.

All the charges had been placed by the wrecker already, who effectively chose, thanks to his particular form of extrasensory perception, the weak points of the structure with pinpoint accuracy. Jae Won watched him leave, and after spitting on the ground, she continued separating the damaged remains into their basic components, which quickly scattered everywhere, reduced, and would potentially come to nothing once everything fell apart. However, although the warehouse was ready, it was necessary to go to the cold room that was left up the steps, there were still traces to be broken apart.

S-1 and Ah Ra had by then already reached the front exterior of the facility, passing through the offices where the firstgens burned documents into pyres, exiting into the parking lot directly towards the waiting helicopter; The pilot spotted them immediately, and when he saw who they were carrying, he signaled to the co-pilot, who got out of the vehicle and opened the door. He untied the portable stretchers from behind the back seats, and helped Ah Ra to lay down and fix the wounded on them, immobilizing them with collars and safety straps; the two girls sat in adjacent seats, and the co-pilot jumped out of the cockpit to return to the front:

- We have no time to waste – Ah Ra said through the communicator – take us to headquarters now.

- Sir? – the pilot asked S-1

- I authorize it. Take off now.

The machine began to accelerate its thick double rotors, and ascended with all the speed its vibrating motors would allow; little by little they moved away from the lab, their silhouette becoming smaller and smaller, gradually fading until their onyx color was confused against the black mantle of the night above the sea. If it had been any helicopter, it would not have had enough fuel to fly over the invisible boundary between the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, but the power source and the thrusters that were fired already at high altitude ensured that they went away as quickly as they had arrived. The camouflage still failed, but it had to be enough.

Just as they were entering the open sea, every single communicator came to life:

-What do you think you're doing?

The twin was shocked to hear her sister's voice asking that question; she and Ah Ra turned to look at the injured girl they had just rescued, and looked at each other, confused, while back in the lab's parking lot, a female figure in a combat suit watched from afar, smiling angrily:

- Where do you think you're going? The mission is not over.

- Sister... sister! you're fine, but you...! How is it possible…?!

- You're here... - Ah Ra responded - with us, in critical condition; we were trying…to save you.

Raon was surprised, but quickly regained her composure; she remembered all the recent events, every detail of what they'd been doing, and understood what was really happening, at least most of it. With pieces yet to be placed, she replied:

- It's alright - she said, leaving S-1 and the doctor perplexed - Take her to HQ. Keep an eye on her.

- Yes, director.

- I'll move her to a monitoring room once the surgery is finished. Over and out.

Raon cut communication as well, and prepared to return to the place she was supposed to go before the sound of the helicopter outside interrupted her.

- Time to see those the intruders, then.

In one of the offices, several people lay huddled together against the back wall, all quite still, resigned to whatever their fate was; there were three women and a man, one had wet her pants and the three girls' faces were swollen from crying. Two of them trembled even more than the others, because they had had to go through a lot in those hours of horror, still not knowing how they themselves had managed to survive. The one who seemed to be the leader of the group, wearing a beret cap and his vest in tatters, was the only one who looked closely at his kidnappers; two people in futuristic combat suits, with helmets covering their faces, flanked the entrance with their arms crossed, a third patrolling outside.

Impatient and confused, the man gathered his courage, and began to rebuke them:

- Hey...you! Why you got us here, huh? Think you'll get away with it?! You're wrong!

The two Awoken Ones did nothing more than look at him sadistically and hold back their laughter; he would get an answer to his challenge, and it came immediately, the echo of its boots echoing down the hallway, appearing before him equipped in a suit like the others, with plastic-looking armored segments. They covered it around the neck, chest, back, forearms, elbows, thighs, shins and knees; the latter betrayed a lean, although slender, well-built figure, someone to whom the other two would make a reluctant bow when entering, hiding the fear in their eyes:

- You're the one who's wrong, old man - she said - You're the ones who have no escape.

He recognized that feminine voice immediately, leaving him stunned. At that same moment, she took off her helmet and the eyes of everyone present widened, causing them to look at each other and murmur with enormous surprise, fear, and indignation; one of the women, the man's personal secretary, spoke first:

- W...wait...w...what are you...aren't you...Miss...Kang Ma-ri? – She stammered.

The group leader's lips trembled, as he whimpered, stunned:

- But...but what?...what's going on? - he said, pointing at her - Why are you with them?! Tell me!

- Miss Kang – said one of the makeup artists – If we did something that offended you, please forgive us!

The woman looked at them strangely, and then smiled; this made Mr. Bae's heart sink, as did the two makeup artists who had been with her until recently, unable to understand the person before them, unable to think about how it was possible that she , of all people, could betray them like that.

- Kang Ma-ri? Why you call me that? I'm the one who should ask the questions.

- Don't hurt us, please, we'll do whatever you want, okay? We won't speak – Bae swore.

- We won't tell the police anything, we swear - Ji Na said - just let us go.

- Please Mari, there are injured people here, we must take them to the hospital, I beg you.

- That's not my problem.

The young woman approached the director, who looked at her in disbelief and fear; that coldness couldn't correspond to the young girl with whom he'd been working, who now brought her hand to his forehead. The girl placed it on top on the head as if she were going to perform some kind of exorcism, but just as she began to press it back, a new young man in a combat suit, without a helmet, appeared at a hurried pace, calling your attention:

- Director…

- What do you want, Seo Jin? I'm busy.

- You won't believe what we just found.

- What now?

- You should see it yourself.

- Tell me where.

- Maintenance room, here on the first floor.

Raon lowered her hand, and closing her eyelids, activated remote viewing; she moved through the hallways, laboratories, rooms, offices, and after a few seconds she found the place, peeking through the open door. Inside, Chae Gun had two individual subdued; the first was a young man with messy hair, whom she pressed against the wall with one forearm, and the second, stuck to a corner, a skinny girl with a bruise on her cheek. Looking closely at her face, she knew that this was bizarre and completely absurd; her mind couldn't accept the "fact" she was seeing him breathing again, much less that her own twin sister was there curling up and crying like an absolute coward.

- Tell me this isn't true... - the director mocked - Bring them to me - and emphasized - In one piece.

  1. Slang, probably invented by me, to refer to a private international business selling weaponry, weapon systems and other military technology.
