"She deserves it, helping others to bully us," Xuexue said, fuming.
"She was also deceived. Before she was married, she treated you so well, Xuexue. Please don't be mad at your older sister, okay?" Madam Xie was trying to placate both sides, fearing her daughters would become enemies over her.
Having suffered through hardships, Xuexue understood her adoptive mother's concerns all too well. Not wanting to trouble her, she said, "Mother, I understand."
Madam Xie and her daughter worked until evening, yet they still hadn't finished killing all the loaches. Madam Xie found it strange as it didn't seem like Xuexue had brought back that many loaches to start with; it felt as if the more they killed, the more there seemed to be.
She peered into the bucket and said, "Xuexue, why does it feel like the loaches are multiplying?"
