Chapter 9 - Traditional virtue

Sitting in the car, Claire took out her phone and accessed the cloud, pulling up the surveillance footage she had stolen from Tristan's computer as evidence of his infidelity. Others said that the Smith family's eldest daughter was a country bumpkin who never left her house and was always cold to people.

Little did they know, it was all her disguise. Only by playing a role that posed no threat could she move more conveniently in the dark. Tristan would never have thought that the CCTV footage from his house had already been stolen and would be used against him.

It was all the work of his unsophisticated fiancée. After sending the videos to several email addresses, Claire drove away. During the journey, she made a few phone calls.

"Is this Sheila? I have exclusive news. I've already sent it to your email."

"Trying to harm her? Let's see if they have what it takes!" Within half an hour, the young master of the Grey family was at the top of the entertainment news headlines, and multiple hashtags emerged.

"Cheating like an octopus."

These hashtags quickly spread on the internet, and soon, Tristan became a scumbag that everyone was calling out. The second most talked-about topic was about her. Netizens overwhelmingly supported her decision to break off the engagement and even released her photo.

In the photo, she looked timid, wearing a white dress that accentuated her elegance. It was taken by someone arranged by her father when she had just returned to the Smith family. To lower their guard, she disguised herself as a timid little white flower. Claire walked into a villa after getting out of the car. It was her private property, known to only a few people.

The house was elegantly decorated, with a graceful yet understated style, completely opposite to the Smith family's nouveau riche aesthetic. She took out her phone from the drawer in the hallway and saw several missed calls, all from the same person.

Only here could she feel the warmth of home because this was her and her mother's secret base. Her stomach growled, reminding her that she hadn't eaten anything all day. She got up and headed to the kitchen.

Cooking was her favorite thing to do; she enjoyed the time spent preparing a feast for her family. Claire savored the rare peace and quiet, while chaos erupted in the Smith family mansion. Tristan and Anna's secret affair was exposed, and Claire went missing.

Sebastian was beside himself with worry, his already sparse hair now looking even more desolate. After Claire finished eating and had some peace of mind, she decided to return to the Smith family mansion. But first, she had to go to the place where Tristan and Anna were holding a conference to clear their names and mislead the netizens.

As she entered the conference room, she was greeted by Anna's angry face. But what surprised her even more was that Alexander was also there. She was curious as to why he was there—was he following her?

As she gazed at her sister, Claire's patience gradually wore thin. But on the surface, she still blinked innocently and looked pitifully at Anna.

"What did my sister want to say? Can I know? I just woke up and was brought here by Alexander Miller's people. I only found out about the online incident on the way here."

As she spoke, Claire looked at Tristan with tears in her eyes.

"Tristan, have you been lying to the family? Why didn't you respect our marriage contract? If you like my sister, why did you get engaged to me?"

Her tears fell like rain as she accused him of being heartless.

"Slander!"

Tristan was so angry that he jumped up and pointed at the defector, who was no other than the Mafia boss. Claire had deliberately sent him here to mess them up.

"What did Claire give you to slander me?"

Alexander glanced at the Mafia boss with a calm expression, causing the latter to shiver. The man didn't need to be told what to do. He explained in detail how he had been hired by Tristan to ruin Claire's innocence and even produced evidence.

"The transfer records that Tristan Grey gave me before, I still have them!" With this final piece of evidence, Tristan was nailed to the pillar of shame. This time, Anna truly fainted, not just acting.

And the media, who hadn't encountered such a high-profile aristocratic drama in a long time, immediately swarmed Tristan, questioning why he had done such a thing.

Frustrated, Tristan even resorted to violence, causing chaos at the scene.

"Get the hell out of here, all of you!"

In the midst of the chaos, Tristan's bodyguards finally regained their senses and quickly stepped forward to protect him and evacuate him from the backstage. Tristan was unwilling and immediately rushed toward Claire in the audience.

"You bitch! How dare you set me up! I'll make you pay..."

The audience was shocked. Before Tristan could throw a punch, he was hit by one instead. Claire raised her eyebrows and looked at Alexander, who was blocking her way. This man had saved her again; she thought if this continued, she would owe him her life. She then glanced at Tristan, lying on the ground holding his face.

Alex raised his wrist and looked down at him.

"Acting bravely in defense of justice is a traditional virtue in this nation." Claire couldn't help but laugh softly. This Alex looked calm and restrained, but she didn't expect him to have such a funny side.

"Alexander! It must be you who helped her deal with this low-level Mafia boss behind the scenes!" Otherwise, how could he have turned against me when I had something on him?

Tristan held his bleeding mouth and questioned him incoherently.

"I am Alexander Miller." He coldly and boldly pronounced his name, and the scene instantly fell silent, with everyone looking at him in horror. They wondered why the legendary Alexander Miller had shown up at the conference. What business did he have here?

Tristan was stunned, but before he could react, his bodyguards had already taken him away.
