"I see." Aiden finally spoke up after a moment of silence.
His voice was calm, detached even, and it sent a ripple of confusion through her. Serena's breath hitched. What does that mean? Did he just agree with her? Or not? She searched his face, looking for any hint of what he might be feeling, but his expression remained maddeningly unreadable.
Not knowing what else to do, she nodded stiffly, more to herself than to him. The room felt suddenly too small, too stifling. Desperate to escape the tense atmosphere, she moved to get off the bed, choosing to slide down the other side so she wouldn't have to pass by him.
