Chapter 9 - Searching

Serena looked down at her phone. She decided to search about herself. So, she typed 'Serena Hawk' into the search bar. A few came up but none of them was her.

Her heart sank.

Was her name 'Serena' fake as well? But surely with her husband's surname 'Hawk' in the search, she should be able to find details of herself! Yet there was none.

Panic rose, hitching in her throat but she pushed it down. She couldn't afford to panic now!

"Come on, think," she urged herself. "There has to be something in this tangled mess of a brain. A clue, a hint, anything." But of course there was nothing.

She searched for 'Aiden Hawk' instead. Her eyes widened. The internet seemed to love her husband!

Aiden Hawk was a name that commanded attention, it seemed. While his public presence was limited, the information available was substantial. Business magazines, social media snippets, and a few gossip columns mentioned him as the rising star of the business and finance world. He'd even been painted as some sort of genius for foretelling a crash of the markets!

She snorted. He'd probably been lucky with the market crash thing. Using his foxiness, he must have played that to its full potential. After all, the man was cunning.

As she scrolled further, a headline caught her eye. 'Miraculous Recovery: Aiden Hawk's Wife Wakes from Coma.'

Serena's heart skipped a beat. She clicked on the article, her fingers trembling. The story detailed how Aiden's wife, had been in a coma and close to death. Yet, she recently awakened! Speculation and scant details filled the article, emphasizing Aiden's secretive nature about his personal life.

Her breath hitched as she read on, desperate for any mention of herself.

"Ha! Of course, he is secretive! Because the man is full of lies. And they don't even mention my name? What kind of useless reporters were they if they couldn't even find my name, let alone a picture of me?" She shook her head. "The press was also no match for him, probably."

As she scrolled further, another picture caught her eye—Aileen Pratt. Wasn't this the woman who had come to her room to warn her off? Decisively, she clicked on the picture, her eyes narrowing as she read the details. So, she really was his business partner. There were even speculations that they were the perfect couple and would marry once she died? Serena's blood boiled.

"Hey! Why do I have to die for that Aileen to marry Aiden?" She fumed in anger. "He could have married her instead of marrying me!"

Of course, the fact that he preferred an almost dead woman over his business partner should have made the man's feelings clear on the subject. And also the long list of girlfriends! His name seemed to be connected to every celebrity from what she could see.

Shrugging off that thought, she went back and started to read more. According to the internet, Aiden's family comprised his grandmother and two younger siblings. That gave her pause. Grandmother was a total sweetheart, so no worries there.

But siblings. A girl and a boy. Why was there so little information on them? It didn't add up.

"I'll meet them soon enough," She muttered to herself. They would likely meet at the dinner. There wasn't any information about Aiden's parents either. Another mystery!

Before she switched off her phone, ready to rest, she noticed a face and a name that caught her attention.

The headline read, 'Rivals in business: Aiden Hawk vs Sidney Price.'

"Sidney Price." She didn't know why, but the name felt familiar.

She scrolled a little more as she yawned, looking through the details. Nothing seemed to ring a bell but yet the sense of familiarity remained. When she saw the photo of him, she failed to notice the slight blurry figure of a woman in the background.

One that looked a lot like her.
