On the first day of school, everyone had just met, and so naturally wanted to show their best side to each other, engaging in endless topics of conversation, which made the classroom particularly noisy. The noise only somewhat subsided when the instructor entered the room.
The instructor was a man not yet thirty, wearing black-rimmed glasses, slightly overweight, and looking very scholarly. He first wrote his name, You Changjin, on the blackboard, then pushed his glasses up and said, "If all goes well, I'll be in charge of our class for the next four years."
You Changjin briefly mentioned some things to take note of in college life, such as the fact that first-year students don't have their own classes, so you might not see him on a regular basis. If you need anything, you can find him in room 413 of the administration building.
"Well, tomorrow morning at nine, we need to pick up our military training uniforms. The training will last three weeks and before that, we need to elect a male and a female class monitor. During the training, you can report most issues directly to the class monitors. Do we have anyone here who has been a class monitor before?"
At this point, three people raised their hands, two girls and one boy.
The boy was Lu Yuhang.
When he raised his hand, Li Qiang couldn't quite believe it, "You were a class monitor before?"
"What's so strange about him being a class monitor?" Chang Hao said.
"No, I just didn't see it." Li Qiang said with a laugh.
The girls were the one Li Qiang had just been drooling over and another who also looked decent, dressed in the typical high-school fashion.
You Changjin looked at the three with a nod, "Alright, let's have each student introduce themselves. Besides these three, anyone who wants to run for class monitor can nominate themselves. Due to time constraints, we'll only be electing class monitors this time, and it's temporary; we're going to hold another election after the military training."
You Changjin kept it brief and then let everyone introduce themselves, too lazy to check the roll call book and simply had students come up to the stage in seating order.
The most beautiful girl in class was named Gu Yaoyao, the girl in white jeans showing off her long legs, with a great temperament. She was wearing some lesser-known brands, her hair in a ponytail, exuding a campus beauty vibe. After getting on stage, she waved to everyone with confidence, "Hello everyone! My name is Gu Yaoyao, I'm from Southern Anhui. I am very happy to meet all of you and I hope to spend a wonderful college life with you."
Gu Yaoyao hadn't even finished speaking when whispers already started spreading below.
In the Landscape Engineering class of over forty students, with twenty boys, Gu Yaoyao was indeed considered the prettiest. Most importantly, her beautiful legs under her shorts were certainly admired by many. When Gu Yaoyao added that she wanted to run for class monitor, it prompted a round of enthusiastic applause from the male students, with the loudest claps coming from a guy named Jiang Chao sitting next door, thin as a rail and also wearing glasses, who even stood up as he applauded.
No sooner had Gu Yaoyao stepped down than Jiang Chao jauntily made his way to the stage, "Hello everyone! My name is Jiang Chao, a local from Jinling! There's no place in Jinling I don't know about. If you want to go out and have fun, you can count on me. I'd be happy to show you all around! And, by the way, I'd like to ask Gu Yaoyao, do you have a boyfriend?"
"Ooh!" The moment the words left his mouth, the crowd below started to jeer.
Gu Yaoyao laughed at this, giving Jiang Chao an encouraging, delightful smile, and just one glance back from her made Jiang Chao feel like he'd lost his soul. Boosted by her encouragement, Jiang Chao couldn't help but puff out his chest.
"Hey, say what needs to be said and don't say what doesn't. Don't waste other people's time," You Changjin said indifferently.
At this, Jiang Chao gave an embarrassed laugh, looking like he was about to leave the stage, but then he suddenly remembered something, "Oh, right! I'm also running for class monitor! Give me a chance, guys, vote for me!"
"Haha," the crowd erupted in laughter again.
You had to admit, guys like Jiang Chao were actually quite popular in university.
However, this did upset some people.
For instance, Chang Hao, watching Jiang Chao make a fool of himself onstage, felt contempt and thought it was utterly boring.
"What a moron, acting like a clown. Do Jinling people think they're so special?" Chang Hao whispered disdainfully.
Overhearing this, Li Qiang cracked a smile, "That's right, not even close to my Brother Hao."
Jiang Chao's introduction lightened the mood, and the others started to loosen up in their self-introductions, like Liu Yue, Lu Yuhang, and Li Qiang began introducing themselves one after another.
Liu Yue claimed she was from Anhui, but her parents had worked in the Capital city all her life, so she considered herself half a Capital local!
Li Qiang said, "Brother Hao, he's your fellow townsman!"
"Bullshit fellow townsman."
Lu Yuhang just gave a simple self-introduction before stepping down from the stage.
You Changjin asked curiously, "Yuhang, don't you want to run for class leader?"
Lu Yuhang had been the class leader in high school and was one of the top students in the class, which You Changjin certainly noticed.
But being a class leader in high school is different from in university.
Lu Yuhang also disliked getting involved in these trivial matters, simply shaking his head.
Thus, Jiang Chao was the only guy left running for male class leader.
"Not bad, Brother Chao, you're a shoo-in!"
Jiang Chao's roommate whispered.
"Shh, not sure if Gu Yaoyao is a shoo-in."
"Don't worry, Brother Chao! We've got your back, we'll definitely vote for Gu Yaoyao!"
Jiang Chao's conversation with his roommates was neither too loud nor too soft, but it was just loud enough for the girls in front of them, including Gu Yaoyao, to hear.
Liu Yue whispered to Gu Yaoyao, "They're talking about you!"
Gu Yaoyao turned around and smiled politely at Jiang Chao.
And with just that smiling glance, Jiang Chao was instantly energized.
"Moron." Chang Hao and his group were sitting behind Jiang Chao and had a clear view of the incident, unable to help muttering under their breath.
"Brother Hao, it's your turn," Li Qiang said.
It was Chang Hao's turn to take the stage. If it hadn't been for Jiang Chao's introduction, which had been stupid, Chang Hao would have introduced himself casually, but now he couldn't even be bothered to speak.
"Chang Hao, from the Capital City!"
Dressed in branded clothing and wearing Jordan basketball shoes, Chang Hao was obviously a city kid. Originally planning to step down after saying this, he suddenly had another thought: "Oh right, I'm also running for class leader. Although I'm not a native of Jinling, I think whether or not you're from Jinling doesn't really have anything to do with being a class leader, right?"
Upon hearing this, the crowd couldn't help but laugh and turn back to look at Jiang Chao.
And Jiang Chao, who had been caught up in the joy of Gu Yaoyao's smile, suddenly looked displeased at Chang Hao on stage upon hearing his words.
Chang Hao, on the other hand, met Jiang Chao's gaze without flinching.
After Chang Hao finished his self-introduction, it was Zhou Yuwen's turn to take the stage.
Zhou Yuwen's introduction was very straightforward.
"Hello everyone, my name is Zhou Yuwen, from Xu Huai. I am the general agent for Xianlin University Town mobile campus cards. If anyone wants to get a campus card, you can come to me,"
