Chapter 1 - Spam

Doot-doot-doot-doot!

Claire grumbled, sitting up and rubbing her eyes on the couch. What time was it? How long had she napped? It was already dark outside..Shit. She'd gotten home from school completely exhausted after meeting Sam in the bathrooms after school to hook up, and it looked like she'd slept for at least three hours. On a school night, too…

Sighing, Claire stretched and groped around for her ringing iPhone. She turned it and squinted at the bright screen, frowning. Who'd be calling her at this time? Eomma and Appa were out on a date, they'd be eating right now…maybe it was Judy?

Unknown Caller ID

Claire tsked, turning her phone off and throwing it back at the foot of the couch. Just spam. At least it'd woken her up. She'd meant to finish up her calculus early so she could watch The Boys without worrying tonight and catch up to discuss it with Sam.

"Urgh…" Claire stretched, yawning. She ruffled her own hair to get the feeling of the unexpected nap out, then stretched again and lazily got off the couch.

Doot-doot-doot-doot!

"...Oh, come on," She muttered, picking up her phone again and squinting. She clicked on one of the living room lamps so that the screen wasn't as blinding.

Unknown Caller ID

It was the same number as before.

"Fucking spam…" She scowled, swiping the call away again. She slipped her phone into her pocket and headed for the kitchen. Actually, she wasn't in the mood to do calculus at all right now. She felt all sleepy from her nap, and the fact that that hookup with Sam earlier had ended with him leaving right away had made her feel shitty beyond belief. Sure, Jeremy always said Sam was a jerk, but he was a hot one, so Claire stayed with him. Even when he refused to hook up with her anywhere besides the bathroom after school.

Yawning again, Claire shuffled into the kitchen, clicking on the lights. She pulled the freezer open, glanced around tiredly for a bit, and pulled out a bag of frozen mandu. A minute later, she'd poured out a dozen into a steamer on the stove and shoved the back back into the fridge.

Doot-doot-doot-doot!

"...Are you kidding me?" Claire snapped, yanking her phone out of her pocket again. The same thing as before—Unknown Caller ID, the same number, too.

This time, she swiped right, till the call button turned green.

"Hi, you have the wrong number," She said politely, gritting her teeth.

"Do I?" The voice on the other end of the phone was strange. It sounded nasally, and smug. Slightly muffled, too, as though coming through a scarf or a face mask.

"Yes," Claire said flatly. "Bye." As she moved to end the call, there was a sharp hiss from the other end of the line:

"End the call and you die."
