One by one, everyone lined up in front of the orb, hoping yo find out what their gift is. In the novel their was no mention of what gift Akira got other than he didn't know how to utilize it.
Standing first in line due to my shameless rushing, I stand in front of the orb, waiting for the teachers approval to touch it. My face is a mask of blank as I remain stoic.
"Okay, put your palm onto the orb and flow your mana into it." Miss Simmons motions as I move forward, my hand shaking a bit as I place my palm on the orb.
Flowing mana into the foreign object it glows a radiant pink. Showing my unique mana color as others are usually blue or green. Rarely red.
The students behind me gasp in awe at my mana color as the orb glows before words hover above it in a hologram. The words show as.
(Copy)
"Hn," I grunt as I move to the side. The other kids look annoyed at my gift as I'm practically a cheat. This gift is rather stupid if you ask me.
It's like the queen piece in chess. Capable of doing everything other pieces can do. Moving across the board like a rook or side to side like a bishop. The jack of all trades of sorts.
"No fair!"
"Will this guy just copy our gifts?"
"Lucky bastard!"
"He can copy even the best of hunters gifts"
"Such a stupid ability!"
After everyone's complaints about my gift, they went by one by one to get theirs. Gifts aren't a garunteed thing. If you are lucky, you get a strong one. If you are unlucky, you get a useless one. But if you are cursed, you don't get any gift.
"Woah, she has no gift!"
"Haha, giftless freak!"
"Pfft"
"Looks like we have trash in this classroom,"
The girl in question with no gift? Elise. Angelina's best friend. Angelina just got a barrier gift. This gift is nigh invulnerable in turn for massive mana cost. This doesn't bother Angelina, of course, considering inside of her pendent lies a freaking dragon.
Ignoring her staring at me, I look at Elise, who begins to tear up. Who wouldn't cry? Gifts in this world are the main indicators of power. People without gifts are ridiculed like trash. Almost as much so as people with no mana.
Natrually, Angelina shuts the class up by releasing her mana in burst. A pressure bores down on those mocking elise specifically.
The main culprits are losers who die in the sister exchange event by chapter 18. Lucas, Luis. And Hayden.
They all get killed during the demons' attack. In this word, demons and humans are forced to coexist. Natrually, neither side does as they are both constantly at war.
Demons posses vast mana and enhanced bast stats in turn for not having any gift of their own. Humanity combats this with gifts Natrually.
The demons seize the opportunity when the school is focused on watching the students fight to evaluate the second semesters strongest and the demons' attack.
Natrually, a multitude of fodders die. Angelina is forced into a life or death situation against 2 superior demons. I don't know the outcome of that fight, but it's safe to assume she won. Natrually, she's the mc.
Frowning a bit at the sheer force of Angelina's mana, I turn towards her to express my discomfort. Weirdly, she immediately stops and looks away from me immediately, her arms crossed.
'What a weird person.' Shaking my head, I focus on the teacher. Who is busy evaluating everyone's gifts, her face showing that she isn't too impressed with most. Natrually. Everyone other than mine and Angelina's gifts were mediocre. Like being able to float for 5 seconds or controlling small amounts of water.
My gift is based on physical contact from what I've deduced. Since my gift is copied, I more than likely have to touch someone and store their gift in my body this most likely comes with a time limit as I doubt I can use multiple gifts unrestricted.
Brushing arms with the kid that can float, I exit the class when the bell rings. My face is bored as I get ready to do another mana exhaustion cheat.
"Hey! Wait up!" A voice calls from behind me. Tilting my head, I look behind me and spot a blonde haired girl with sapphire green eyes. This is Elena. One of my classmates who has a semi okay gift.
Her gift? Healing. She can heal injuries, but it costs a lot of mana. Looking at her confusedly, she smiles awkwardly.
In the story for the first 20 chapters, the author hinted that Elena was a very kind soul and would play a large role in the future.
"Hmm?" I hum in question. I wonder what she may want with me.
"Well, you see - uh, I was just wandering if you were okay... the first day was rough for you, and I just hope it hasn't messed with your psyche or anything." Her voice is sincere and filled with concern.
"I see, don't worry about it. I've already gone past that point mentally." Easing her worries, I walk toward her and pat her shoulder. Seemingly a positive gesture, but It's an experiment to see if I can copy non active gifts.
My theory is confirmed at that moment. I must touch someone while they use their gift to copy it. I can't copy a non active gift. It's an unfortunate thing but something I can handle.
I mainly want to copy Angelina's gift, but I don't know how I can get close enough to her to copy that barrier of hers. It's impenetrable to anything but overwhelming force and me and Angelina and I aren't on good terms, so I can't just ask.
Turning away from Elena, I head towards my dorm. My stoic face changed into a frown as I felt the eyes of someone on me. Turning around, I spot no one. But I know I felt someone watching me.
"Hmm?" Deciding to deuce my stalker I begin to jog. I hope this will draw them out. My legs slowly flow with mana enhancement as I run 30 km/h. An almost impossible feat in my old word but pretty casual in this world.
