Every goddamn person
Every person they sent to "Take care" of the "problem" never came back after two failures no communication back to her on the success or failure of the mission made Renee's headache harder she almost wanted to take a gun and be done with it. And she knew they failed since the target would turn up alive completely fine, how hard is it to kill a child anyway? She sat in a small office staring into the buildings in the distance on the fourth floor the view of the city unfolded beautifully past the floor-length windows making up the back of her office. She swayed on an office chair feeling the edge of the wooden desk behind her through it. as usual she wore a pantsuit over a white shirt that peaked out in a rectangular fashion from the one button black jacket she let the button loose, she had to explain this to her boss somehow and after one other complete failure she dreaded how she would explain this and keep her job probably her life after all that she knew she would send assassins after herself.
"Failure isn't the problem how they failed however is information we could use to adjust our strategy, yet since no one has returned or been sighted after this mission even other operatives would be reluctant to take up the job." She mused the headache growing "the bigger problem is…" a knock on her door suggested the bigger problem for her just arrived and they are going to want an explanation "Come in!" she dimmed the windows buttoning up the suit and swirled back facing the door carefully placing her arms on the desk "She here isn't she?!" Renee spoke flatly a tall brunette in a black stripped jacket and a black skirt stood halfway through the door she wore round glasses hair tied into a small bun. Her sea blue serious gaze directed at Renee "Yes the boss has requested your presence in her office." Her voice matching the seriousness with which she held herself.
Renee heaved a sigh standing up from the chair her day was about to get a whole lot worse.
*********
When Sally woke up the following morning, she looked like a disaster had another worse catastrophe, it had been two weeks since she moved to her new home and her father's funeral, but each day still felt like they just put her only family to the ground the day before. She barely left her room at all, Alyssa had taken care of moving over her things from the previous house, leaving a plate of food in front of her door however after one week Sally came out to eat at irregular intervals sometimes, she came out at noon or in the mornings sometimes at night whenever she didn't Alyssa made sure food was brought to her room.
She was a mess the bathroom mirror above the sink revealed as much. Disheveled silver blonde hair puffy red eyes heavy bags hanging over pale skin, she smelled like someone who hadn't showered in a while because well she hadn't showered for so long she couldn't reconcile the last time it happened the 14-year-old girl staring back at her looked like a mess. A very pale mess.
Thirty minutes later that girl Sally decided looked or at least seemed semi-presentable in a black top and tight jeans, hair combed and tied to into a short ponytail at the back of her head, eyes somewhat still puffy but presentable she breathed in then out it was the first day of school and the end of summer they'd decided she wouldn't go back to her old school and instead enroll into the same school as her cousin.
"Well time to go." She said halfheartedly "I can at least do that can't I?" the girl staring back at her this time on the floor-length mirror in the walk-in closet kept quiet "Michael you going to be Late for school!" a loud male voice came from somewhere in the house "Right!" She picked up a rucksack from one of the drawers leaving she peeked out the bedroom window a yellow school bus drove into their street parking on the road directly in front of the house its engine rumbling down waiting as kids started to climb in.
"I have to do this." She told herself throwing the rucksack over her shoulder she strode towards the door "Come on Michael the bus is here!" the voice closer the person speaking had to be just beyond the door if Michael responded Sally couldn't hear "That voice…" memories came back rushing of her except it was she calling for her father "He was always late" she sniffed "he was always fucking late!"
"Except now he's gone and I am alone!" she wanted to shout "I am alone!" her voice a whisper the rest stuck in her throat, she stood just behind the door until hours later, the bus had gone and the house completely silent school would have to wait for another day.
Asahi a healer in the small village of Reigh was known and loved by all the villagers and many others came from outside Reigh seeking his aid. Some people called him a saint others a great healer even some probably jealous of his abilities called him a conman. Perhaps they are part of the reason his untimely demise came about. To be clear most of this information is based on texts likely written by those who believed Asahi to be some sort of deity…
Michael read the hard leather-bound book on his desk located farthest from the whiteboard, math the first subject of the day had yet to start Mr. Emery unusual of his disciplined character was late to class. Michael took the opportunity to read the book as he'd done countless times before, each word layered in his brain ignoring the other kids a happy result of it.
…regardless of whom loved, hated or admired him all of them agreed on one thing Asahi dubbed the Light of the East possessed extraordinary abilities that roused both envy and reverence in those lucky enough to witness him in action.
Sources vary but most of them agreed that Asahi's downfall like most men began with the appearance of a woman…
"Hey Michael!" the voice came from his right the desk next to him in the last row where he sat next to the wall on his left he chose the place the idea being to minimize interaction as much as possible Rainer sitting next to him however threw his long craved solitude to the gutter. "Rainer" Michael spat dryly not bothering to raise his head from the book. "the teacher is about to enter"
…her name was…
As if on cue Mr. Emery pushed the glass door open entering the class Michael sighed putting the book away. Mr Emery a very tall serious man wore his usual khaki pants a cream short sleeved shirt under a brown sweater vest the summer heat never bothered him. His deep blue eyes swept over the students as if taking in the roll call which wasn't really a problem being that there were only fifteen desks and only fourteen of them where occupied. Wisps of gray colored his predominantly black hair betraying an older age which to the class's dismay didn't in any way hinder his strict teaching routine. He looked slightly annoyed being late even once a stain to his carefully tended schedule, the principal a young thing she was which annoyed him even more had graciously ordered him to escort the new kid to class he grumbled a yes and headed to class the new girl trotting after him.
"Class" he said placing a book on the desk next to the white board " this is your new classmate her name is…" he forgot to take her name "um I will let her introduce herself !" the short figure behind him faced the class she looked different from everyone else in that unlike them she wasn't in the standard issued uniform, Black oversize t-shirt and blue baggy jeans contrasting with white sneakers and a brown rucksack strapped over one shoulder, the skin around her eyes suggested either crying or deprived of sleep under normal circumstances she would be the most beautiful girl there alas that wasn't the case.
Silver blonde hair let loose its edges brushing her shoulders the new girl looked at the class she wore an expression so flat and removed they were not completely sure she was aware of the class staring back at her "I am Sally" she said quietly only those in the first row clearly caught her name, Mr. Emery not one to loose time ushered her to the only empty seat in the last row Michael spared a glance at her once that will resolve itself he did not have the bandwidth to entertain other people's issues, Mr. Emery spoke so fast one blink and the rest of the lesson would be gibberish.
