Chapter 22 - 22. GOING HOME

Injured Kidnappers Dora! Grandfather and granddaughter finally reunited.

The two cried and hugged each other joyously. Suddenly, a man and a woman emerged

from the group of security guards and approached Aiden.

The man, tall and sturdy with a square face that spoke of a heroic spirit, was currently in

his prime. The woman, on the other hand, seemed much younger. Not much older than

Aiden.

She was tall and slender and there was a hint of mischief in her pale face. Holding a red

notebook, she followed behind the male officer while giving Aiden a curious look. Before

the officers could say anything, however, the two kidnappers could no longer restrain

themselves.

After the way Aiden had treated them during the trip here, their faces and bodies were

covered in open wounds. Compared to that demon, the security guards may as well have

been angels welcoming them into paradise. They threw themselves at the feet of the

male officer and wrapped their arms around his thighs as they begged for mercy.

With tears streaming down their cheeks, they shrieked, Officer, get us away from here

fast! I'm begging you! We're guilty! We kidnapped that kid! Now come on, hurry up and

arrest us! The security guards and other assorted spectators were stunned into silence

after witnessing this ridiculous scene. Many of the security guards had been working in

law enforcement for decades, yet this was the first time they'd seen a criminal behave

like this. What in the world had that kid done to these guys? Dragging the old man to

Aiden's side, Dora pointed up at him.

Grandpa, this is Big Brother, she said excitedly. He rescued me from the bad guys. He

beat up two guys all by himself.

He's so cool! After the girl spoke, the crowd fell silent before erupting into a cacophony

of praise and congratulations. Well done, bro! He's a hero! The cheers and applause of

the crowd were soon followed by the flashes and clicks of cameras. As tears streamed down his face, the old man, relieved beyond words to have gotten his granddaughter

back safely, held Aiden's hand tightly and said, Looking into the old man's face and

seeing his gratitude and joy, Aiden smiled back at him brightly.

It had all been worth it. The dignified male security officer frowned at the two

kidnappers. Arrest these two men and escort them to the police car at once, he shouted.

At this, several security guards ran over, arrested the kidnappers, and dragged them

away. As they passed by the crowd, they were met with fierce insults and disgusted

looks. If they hadn't cared about accidentally hitting the security guards, the criminals

would have already been pelted with bushels of rotten vegetables and spoiled eggs.

The two officers remained in their positions. The female officer continued to gaze at

Aiden curiously. Having just graduated from high school this year, she had been

assigned to pursue the kidnappers by her superiors.

However, she never expected they would have already been dealt with by a kid who

looked to still be in high school. In a rather irritated tone of voice, she asked, The middle-

aged male security officer glared at the woman and introduced himself to Aiden. Hey,

buddy.

I'm Officer Robert, the county's chief police officer. This silly girl is my mentee, Officer

Sophie. Pouting, Officer Sophie glared menacingly at Officer Robert when he called her

silly, which Aiden thought was a rather cute response.

What's your name? Oh, my name is Aiden. This was Aiden's first time talking to a police

officer directly, and he realized it made him a bit uncomfortable. Um, even though I

accidentally hurt those two guys, there shouldn't be any consequences for me, right? Of

course! No problem! Officer Robert laughed heartily.

However, we would like you to cooperate with us and give us a statement at the police

station. This will give us more information about those kidnappers. Aiden nodded and

glanced at the groceries he had previously left in the care of the old man.

Officer Robert followed his eyes and nodded. Don't worry, he assured Aiden. We'll

arrange for some people to take these back to your place if you give us your address.1With all problems now solved, Officer Robert arranged for

some of his men to take Dora and her grandfather back home. Before getting into the

police car, Dora waved at Aiden and shouted, Goodbye, big brother! The grandfather,

who by now had recovered his usual composure, had asked Aiden earlier, Young man,

where do you live? Our family will certainly want to pay you a visit and thank you in

person. Aiden, believing this was only a formality, gave him the address of the snack bar

without thinking too much about it.

It was almost 10 o'clock at night by the time he returned home from the police station.

When he had arrived there, Officer Robert and Officer Sophie personally sent Aiden to

the main entrance. Having just finished the investigation, Officer Robert and Officer

Sophie now had a general idea of what had happened.

Consequently, they no longer viewed Aiden with contempt. After all, if not for Aiden's

courage, accurate judgment, and exceptional skills, the two kidnappers would have long

left the area with Dora. Before parting ways, the two officers honored Aiden with a

formal salute.

Looking into Officer Sophie's eyes as they said goodbye, he thought he could detect a

hint of admiration there, that an ordinary high school student had completely changed

the way she looked at the world. To think high school students these days could be so

fierce. Hey, since you're so good at fighting, why don't you think about becoming a cop?

Officer Sophie giggled.

Officer Robert glared at her, and Officer Sophie pouted. All right, all right, she said

grudgingly. I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Graciously, Officer Robert then said to Aiden, On behalf of all my colleagues in the police

force, I once again express my gratitude to you, young man. I've already arranged for a

driver outside to bring you home. After Aiden left, Officer Sophie turned to Officer

Robert.

Sir, why did you stop me just now? She asked. Officer Robert said resentfully, Why don't

you just think about it for a second? To have such courage and skill at his age, do you

really think he's an ordinary student? Sir, are you saying... This is just an ordinary town,

but a lot of remarkable people have lived here. It's possible Aiden is being backed by one

of those people in some way.

You know, you better start paying attention. Just because your grandfather is... Doesn't

mean you can do whatever you want in this town. Officer Sophie stuck out her tongue,

but she was silent after that.

Unlike big cities that never sleep, the shops and restaurants of Bayside District shut their

doors at around 10 at night. As he approached his familiar street in the police car, Aiden

saw that the lights in Midnight Snack Corner were the only ones still on. Two figures

stood at the entrance of the restaurant and fidgeted nervously, as though waiting for

someone.

Aiden felt a sudden surge of warmth in his heart as he recognized his parents. He was

home. Home at last.

Seeing Aiden get out of the car, Morris and Clara rushed over. Clara hugged Aiden. You

little brat.

We were worried sick over you. She sobbed. Morris didn't say anything, but his eyes

were full of worry.

Although Officer Robert had already had his men explain the situation to them, they still

fussed and worried over Aiden, as any decent parents would under the circumstances.

It's okay now, Mom. I'm fine.

Aiden patted his mother on the shoulder and turned around to thank Officer Ben, the

driver who had brought him home. Ben, thanks for the lift, buddy. No problem.

Officer Ben gave Aiden a thumbs up and said, We should thank you instead. If those two

guys had gotten away, we definitely would have been in trouble.
