Evanora
"Hope you two had fun?" Eva asked, taking a sip from her drink.
"Yes ." Hannah replied. "Alpha Diego made the picnic a lot fun for everyone. You are so lucky to have him, Eva."
After the last set of Alpha Diego's friends had left the apartment following the end of the picnic, Eva; Alpha Diego's fiancee, and her two friends—Hannah and Sigra—were in the living room chatting and laughing. Eva couldn't hide her excitement for hosting her two best friends at her fiance's apartment for the picnic event.
The music was still beaming faintly from outside when Hannah excused Eva and Sigra to go use the guest restroom. "I will be right back, girls," Hannah said and strutted away.
"How did the novel end?" Sigra asked, starting a conversation about the recent book Ana had picked to read over the week.
"I don't want to give you spoilers." Eva responded. "Read it to the end and experience the shock yourself."
Amidst the book conversation, it suddenly occurred to Ana that it had been like forever since Hannah left to use the guest restroom. What could be keeping her this long? Ana stood up, leaving Sigra behind without a word. Taking the way that led to the guest restroom, Eva slowed her pace upon hearing the faint cry emerging from Alpha Diego's room. She advanced to the entrance and without much thought she shoved the door hard open. Before her eyes were Hannah and Alpha Diego, naked and in an intimate position.
"Alhpa Diego! Hannah!" Ana cried at the top of her voice. "What's happening here?"
"How dare you barge into my room like that, Eva?" Alpha Diego's voice filled the room as he eased out of Hannah's body and reached for his short. "Get out!"
Eva felt as though she were dreaming and couldn't make her body move. "Alpha Diego," She managed to say as tears started falling down her eyes.
"Don't make me repeat myself!" Alhpa Diego said and jerked up.
He moved closer to Eva who had started calling out Hannah and raining insults on her.
"One more insult on Hannah and I would make you regret ever walking into this room in the first place." Alpha Diego snarled.
"She is a betrayer and…." Was the last thing statement Eva made before Alhpa Diego's punch landed on her face, shoving her to the floor.
Alarmed by the noises, Sigra rushed to the scene and was shocked to see what was unfolding before her eyes.
"Take your friend out of my house and never should she come anywhere close to this apartment." Alhpa Diego said to Sigra in the most rude tone.
Two weeks later, Evanora became a shadow of herself. The pain from the heartbreak was tearing her apart. This morning, Eva tossed in her bed, feeling the start of a pounding headache. She rolled to the other side of the bed and pushed the curtains to the edge. Rays of morning sun poured in, revealing her bloodshot eyes and the bags below them. For days now, it had been a lot of struggles for Eva to get herself to sleep each night without crying a mess; she would cry and bawl until sleep numbed her away. Alpha Diego's breakup with her had left her in many pieces, ripping her apart in ways she never thought were possible. In the years of their romantic affair, she had high hopes that Alpha Diego could be her fated mate, the man she thought the goddess had assigned to her, but the twist of events that happened a few weeks ago had left her feeling hopeless all over again. She started to feel a start of tears as she fixed an unfocused gaze outside, but at the sound of a knock by the door she quickly dabbed at the corners of her eyes and craned her neck toward the door. Her friend; Sigra, walked in, securing a novel in between her arms.
"Your eyes say it all," Sigra said, advancing toward her "You have stayed all night, crying, Eva?"
Eva could only stare at her friend, knowing that any attempt to speak could burst her into tears.
"Girl, I know your story more than anyone else, so I am in the best place to tell you to accept everything and move on." She heaved a sigh before speaking in a lower tone. "Alpha Diego betrayed you for Hannah. He is probably happy with her and barely thinks of you."
Eva wanted to snarl at her friend for making an attempt to minimize the pain she was dealing, for making it seem that it was easy for her to move on from everything she had been through in her relationship with Alpha Diego: the pups she conceived and lost, the frequent abandonments she faced from him and her loss of self esteem due to constant humiliations he meted on her. But, with a second thought, she held back the urge of snarling at Sigra and acknowledged the care she was trying to offer.
"Thank you, Sigra." Eva said in a collected tone, and with that she burst into tears, crashing into Sigra's arms. She sobbed uncontrollably and let herself be consoled by her friend.
Eva had been friends with Sigra long before Hannah came along. From the time Eva left her pack to come further her education in a state faraway from where her pack dwelled, Sigra was the first person that understood her and loved her geniuly. Their friendship advanced after they both realized they shared a common goal: to become published authors someday.
"Get ready, let's take a walk to the café." Sigra said in a soothing voice, "We can grab cups of coffee and talk about many mundane things." Eva shot her friend an affirming look, a thin smile stretching across her lips. She walked to the wardrobe and pulled in her gray color pajama and paired it a white sleeveless shirt. Together, they strolled down to the Café down the street and settled in amidst a few other people who were drinking and chit-chatting in whispers.
"How long could it possibly take before I meet my fated mate?" Eva's voice was a semblance of whisper. "I really had the strongest belief that Alpha Diego was the one."
"Talking about mundane things was the plan, Eva." Sigra interrupted, fixing a stern gaze at her.
"If you say so…"
Silence settled between them for a while, except the click-click sound that emerged from the cups of coffee they stirred with teaspoons, with an unfocused attention.
"I like the view from this table," A masculine voice said, and then the screeching sound of a chair being scooted followed.
Eva and Sigra turned almost at once, toward the direction of a young man who was settling in a table next to theirs. The young man was dressed in a white shirt and gray pants. The pants were a bit snuggled, outlining his perfect straight legs and moderate calves.
Eva swallowed hard and shifted her attention back to her coffee.
"He is so cute." Was the next statement Sigra said and broke the long silence that had long settled between her and Eva.
"Yes, he is…" Eva replied, sounding less interested.
"We should get going anytime soon," Eva suggested, keeping her tone down. "I have got some writing to do."
Getting ready to take their leave, a brawl between the waiter and the young man suddenly erupted. The waiter's voice was rising, almost turning to a shrill.
"Something is clearly wrong, but why is the waiter so rude?" Eva queried, alarmed at the unfolding event between the young man the waiter.
Soon, it was clear that the young man's credit card was missing and he couldn't make payment for his coffee at the moment.
Eva got to the table and without much words, she stretched her credit card toward the waiter and ordered him to put the bill on her.
"Oh, this is so kind of you….I really don't know how…."
"Don't mention," Eva's voice cut in. "You don't need to explain a thing. Things like this happen to everyone."
"It's settled," The waiter said and handed back Eva's credit card to her, before walking away.
"Fine then." She responded, turning away.
"I am Rick Ronan." The young man introduced, making Eva pause for a moment.
