Cruzer kept his eyes locked on Seris as he considered her proposal. Her demeanor was relaxed, but he could tell there was more to her than she let on. If she was as skilled as she claimed, her plan could work—but there was still the lingering question of trust.
"Why me?" he asked again, his tone sharper this time. "You could've teamed up with anyone."
Seris shrugged, leaning back against the cavern wall. "Because you're a known quantity. Your fight with that brute Nathan? Word travels fast, even in a competition this big. You're strong, tactical, and more importantly, you don't fold under pressure. That's rare. And since I like staying alive, I figured you were my best bet."
Cruzer narrowed his eyes. "Or you're just looking for someone to do the heavy lifting while you pick up the scraps."
