"I wasn't always as… reserved as I am now," she admitted, her gaze distant. "I used to believe in a lot of things—honor, loyalty, all that. But life has a way of changing you."
Cruzer listened, his heart going out to her. "I understand. I've felt that way, too. But I think that deep down, you still believe in those things. You just don't let them show as much."
She looked at him, surprised, a softness in her eyes. "Maybe you're right. It's just… easier to keep people at a distance, you know? But with you, it feels different. I don't feel like I have to hide."
