"Destroyers are quick, pack twin blasters and come with their own shield generators. Nothing short of a cannon, will pierce it. But they do, in fact. Have 2 central weaknesses, and you'll need to work together to exploit them." Anakin said, before nodding at Rex. Whom activated the Droideka, activating its shield.
"The shields deflect high velocity attacks, but what the shields don't stop, are slow or stationary objects, they're designed to absorb them, so that nothing can hit hinder their movement." Anakin said, nodding to Ahsoka.
She took out an ion grenade, before throwing it at just the right speed, allowing it to pass under the droideka.
As she did, my mind couldn´t help but wander, I´d been born on Earth, and therefore my view of things, were unique. And theories was sprouting on Earth equally to humans, and Star Wars was not exception, there were hundreds of theories of how the Separatist could have won the war, defeated the clones and the Empire, and I couldn´t help but agree.
The droid were built nicely, and the foundation of the Separatist, although corrupt behind the scenes. Were nothing short of amazing, the supremacy they had over various area were nothing short of dominating, they had complete supremacy in most militaristic fields.
But, the droids and their power was deploy uselessly, instead of actually using their economic power to hinder and handicap the Republic, they played behind the scenes, not actually siding with the Separatist officially.
Now it made sort of sense, as the Empire would be formed from the Republic, and the Separatist were nothing short of a scapegoat, but still. The power they held over the Republic, was enough to likely usurp it alone.
Additionally, the build of the droids weren't what I would call idiotic at all, they were expensive. But that´s it, and they were deployed wrong.
Consistently fighting in open fields, limiting the Droideka´s with a shield designed to allow objects to pass through.
If they just made the droideka stationary when deployed, and hindering slow and steady objects, they would be nothing short of invincible, and the Republic would be forced to deploy a high number of rockets on the battlefields.
But I knew for a fact, that if the Droideka´s mobility while deployed fully was removed, replaced by physical shields. We'd struggle a lot more than we did, the direct counter to Droideka´s outside high-explosive rounds, were Jedi.
Same with the B1 Battle Droids, instead of having them march in formation, utilising their spinkly joints and body to hide behind trees, cover and other supports. Would increase the efficiency of said units by over 50% in itself.
However, I was brought out of my thoughts as the rebels began practising on the droids, namely Saw Gerrera.
"Watch and learn." He said, as he grabbed a disarmed grenade, in order to focus on getting it past the shield.
Saw threw, and I immediately knew that it was gonna fail, it was too fast.
And that was precisely what happened, as the grenade bounced of its shield.
"Quite brilliant." Lux said with a grin, before turning to Ahsoka. And she nodded, throwing a grenade at him.
I already knew he was gonna succeed, so I didn't even bother watching, and he did indeed succeed, followed by a compliment from Ahsoka, which frustrated Sheera.
And once she tried, she failed due to her frustration, which Obi Wan of course noticed, and informed her on it. And Lux went to help her, which in turn made Ahsoka jealous.
Lux was a man with charm, it seems.
However, I ignored them as I approached the man I knew needed it the most, Saw Gerrera.
"Saw, follow me." I said, waving the man over as we headed for another Droideka, and he gladly followed.
"Thank you, Captain." He said, and I just nodded. Throwing him a grenade.
"You're their leader, they look up to you. And as such, it wouldn't do for you to fall behind." I said, as I put my hands behind my back, turning towards him.
"You're all untrained, and unexperienced. So you're not used to regulate the power of your swing, and therefore. Instead of using your strength, let your arm fall, and do it for you. Just throwing the grenade, without any power, should get you past the shield at this distance, and that will be our first goal." I told him, and he nodded. Resolute in succeeding.
And he threw, but he strained his muscles slightly, meaning he put some force into it, and it did indeed bounce off, but it was closer.
"Again, do not use your muscles, gravity exists, and you must trust it." I told him.
"Alright, I've got it now." He said, practising the throw a few times, before following it through.
And the ball went through the shield, and under the droid.
"Good job, seems you have some talent after all." I said, and he smiled.
"Thanks."
"But you're far from complete, this is a standard distance of 5 meters, on flat ground." I said, and he nodded understanding this was only the distance.
"You need to accurately assume the distance, to accurately throw it. Use what you have, the length of your rifle, and how many you can stack till you reach the target. Use information you have, and be logical about it." I said.
"However, words cannot perfect the art of throwing grenades, although it looks easy. It will come with days, weeks or months of hard work, to even somewhat guarantee a successful throw. But it will take years for you to reach the level of any clone trooper." I said, and he looked down.
"So we´ll have to speed it up, from dusk till dawn you will throw until you no longer have the strength to throw, and then we will focus on leadership. I take pride in my learning, and I do nothing half heartedly, and I expect the same from you." I told him, and he looked surprise. He didn´t expect me to take him under my wing.
"Yes, Captain." He said, and I smiled. His facial expression said everything, and it spoke leagues of his determination.
"Good, I will move the bot to 7 meters, and you will throw till you get it right 7 times in a row." I said, and he groaned. But I smiled. there was nothing like the feeling of training recruits, but watching them succeed, and eventually evolve into something greater.
That was the true meaning behind learning.
However, at that second, I felt something watching me, closely. My instincts roared at me, and I looked into the corner of my eye on an instinct, expecting to find a HUD with a blindspot-camera, but I had none. For I didn´t wield a weapon.
I closed my eyes, as I let my instinct lead me. My arms reached for my pistol, and in a swift motion I spun around, 120 degrees as I lifted my DC17, my eyes locked onto the probe droid, and I saw it attempting to escape.
I didn´t hesitate as I opened fire, 4 shots. The first hit, right in its eyes, but the droid continued, rushing towards its left and my right, towards a fallen tree, but I tracked it and as it sped straight head at full speed to reach the log, about 2 meters from it, all 3 shots hit.
The probe droid didn´t move zig-zag up and down, usually a human would go zig-zag right and left, but since I was on its side, it wouldn't matter. But the droid, whom could fly. Didn´t go up or down, so as the last shot hit, it fell down. Right infront of the tree.
I turned back, to see Saw with his mouth open, gaping. And the next second, Rex, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan and Anakin rushed into the clearing, as I pointed at the probe droid.
"Probe droid, we've been found." Was all I said, as they all turned to face each others.
We needed to get out of here.
