Chapter 8 - Questions: The Confrontation

Dominic's eyes widened as the door creaked open, revealing Daphne standing there.

"You look surprised," she remarked, her brows knitting together in confusion. "I told you I'd come back soon."

Dominic blinked, struggling to mask his shock. "It's just... I didn't expect you so quickly."

Daphne tilted her head. "It's been four hours, Dominic."

Dominic looked at her with confusion.

Daphne looked at her brother worriedly and sighed before explaining "It's been four hours since we left you alone, Dominic."

As she spoke, Dominic's mind raced. *Four hours? That means it takes a long time to recover Dominic's memories and I need to find a way to remember everything before everyone starts suspecting me.*

Dominic quickly replied, "I was just trying to remember some things."

Daphne looked him in the eyes, sending him an investigative gaze. "Why aren't you resting?"

Dominic quickly answered, "I don't really feel like resting; it's probably because I was unconscious for a long time."

Daphne's suspicion grew. "That's weird. The Dominic I know would never lose out on his rest."

Dominic thought to himself, *So basically he was a lazy bum, noted. But now's not the time to crack jokes. I can't let her suspect me.*

Dominic then replied to her suspicions, "I did feel tired, but I wanted to remember everything quickly. Plus, I don't even remember much, so I might not act the same in some cases."

Daphne understood what he meant, but her suspicion lingered and even grew stronger. "I get that you have amnesia; I really do. But that's not something Dominic would say. He couldn't have thought that much on his own and even explained his situation, he's too timid for that. Amnesia or not Dominic is a naturally timid person so he can't boldly explain a complex situation this far. Not to mention the weird discerning look you gave earlier—Dominic can never look at a person that sharply, not even Nicholas."

Dominic started panicking and became worried, asking himself internally, *Why did she bring up Nicholas? Is Dominic's relationship with Nicholas as bad as the memories were? That means Nicholas really did bully and torture him severely, both mentally and physically. But on another note, is she really onto me? No, it's not possible. Nobody can ever guess what happened, not to mention my own strange situation.*

Dominic laughed at the thought, but his internal laughter was soon interrupted by a question that rang in his ears

"You are not Dominic, are you? Who are you?"*

Silence followed, marked by evident composure between the two, which hid their internal panic and conflict.

Daphne makes a golden barrier engulfing her and Dominic in it and Dominic notices his body being engulfed in her light and is bewildered by her actions. He then asks her

"W….What are you doing?" Although wanting to keep his composure, the fear was evident in his voice

Daphne who was clearly serious had a frown on her face and ignored his question while thickening the barrier further making it have a thicker glow as her eyes began to turn golden making her look fiercer than she already did"

Dominic's mind was on fire and he wasn't even thinking straight anymore as his lips started to move on his own and said

"Sister, what's wrong with you? Why are you acting so coldly towards me, don't you love me anymore, don't you want me anymore?"

That was the last thing I heard from my lips before everything went dark but the last thing I could see clearly was tears dripping from my sister's eyes and I wondered to myself, "That's my sister but she isn't my sister is she, who am I?" I've asked that question too many times lately and I keep forgetting the answer and repeating that question over and over again."

"This world is messing with my mind"

Those are the last thoughts Dominic had before falling unconscious once again
