Chapter 19

"Is it good?"

He asked me.

I nodded, not really having time to answer.

"Can you eat it?"

"You've ordered it, I'll try."

"Don't force yourself."

I laughed, looked up at him, "Do you want to eat?"

He put down his knife and fork, "You really seem to enjoy it."

Believe me, for a girl, that's not a compliment.

I put down my chopsticks, "I can't eat anymore."

"Is that so?" He walked over and sat on the other side of my chair, "Then I'll have a taste."

Saying that, he used my chopsticks to eat the noodles.

"So-so," he said, "It doesn't have much flavor."

"If you're not going to eat, give it back to me. I think it's delicious."

"You don't believe me?..."

The next second, Cheng Jiayang sealed my mouth with his. I only felt that he was coveting my noodles, how could I have anticipated such a malicious ploy? But his tongue, it was truly soul-stirring, deftly flitting around in my mouth. I had really underestimated him before; I thought only I could "kiss passionately enough to kill my whole family."

I struggled to grab two strawberries from the fruit basket, then struggled to separate from him slightly, placing the strawberries into both our mouths.

"It tastes better this way."

"The strawberries have seeds."

What happened next, I don't remember well; my body was still aching, but I still made love with Cheng Jiayang. Right next to the dining table.

Later, there was a period when I really doubted my memory. I heard Cheng Jiayang bury his head in the crevice of my shoulder and say, "Fei, thank you."

Qiao Fei

As dusk approached, I left that hotel, took the bus back to school. My waist was a bit sore, so I curled up my legs and propped my chin on my knees. The bus drove along Bille Road, the blurred coastline visible. A sea breeze blew in, bringing fine sand, and in my heart, I softly repeated someone's name, Cheng Jiayang, Cheng Jiayang.

Cheng Jiayang

When Fei was dressing up to leave, I did something stupid. I had no ulterior motives. Like she said, I knew she needed money, so I took out 3000 yuan from my wallet and gave it to her.

She looked at the stack of money, then at me, "I've got the money."

I said, "No, this, I..." Actually, I didn't know what to say.

"Is this for that last time?" she asked.

I nodded, then shook my head.

"Forget it, it's buy one get one free," she said.

"Don't talk like that," I said, knowing she would ultimately not take the money. But there was one thing I really wanted her to know, "I was very happy being with you."

"Me too," she said and opened the door.

"If you have any trouble, please come to me," I said.

"Goodbye."

Then she left. I turned around to look; the large room was in disarray from our frolic, the bedding a mess, yukatas and cushions scattered about, soaked in spilled red wine, brightly colored strawberries and mangoes squashed into a pulp, their juice slowly dripping down the pale blue tablecloth.

In my mind's eye, I saw Fei's cat-like eyes, her stubborn passion while sitting atop me. How utterly lost we were just moments ago.

And yet, as soon as I turned around, I began to miss her.

Outside the window was the blurred coastline; a sea breeze blew in, bringing fine sand, and in my heart, I softly repeated someone's name, Fei, Fei.

The next day at work, I threw myself into it with vigor, translated a memorandum and took it to the director's office for review. Unexpectedly, I was assigned a new task: to accompany the leadership of the National Petroleum Corporation on a three-day visit to Canada in three days. The purpose of the visit was to explore the potential for cooperation between the two countries in offshore oil extraction. Holding a stack of relevant information, I returned and ran into Sister Ma from office services.
