Chapter 42 - Overcooked

"It's Wen Yiwan, right?"

"Tell me, is it Wen Yiwan?"

The woman turned to leave, but Wen Zhi tightly clamped her wrist, preventing her escape, and harshly questioned her.

"I don't know who Wen Yiwan you're talking about is, I don't know, I really don't know." The woman, terrified of Wen Zhi, panicked and shook her head.

The person who had contacted her to handle this matter indeed had given her a large sum of money, an amount she couldn't earn in ten years working at Baixi Manor.

She was just an ordinary person whose moral baseline couldn't overcome her self-interest; in a moment of weakness, she had agreed to burn incense for her.

Fearing the issue would escalate and she would be held accountable, she had arranged a backup plan for herself; she needed to leave quickly, as even a moment's delay could lead to trouble.

"I don't know anything, let go! Let go!" The woman struggled fiercely to pry Wen Zhi's hand off.
