Clara felt a pang of pain as she saw her only sister nearly suffocating. She bent her knees, about to kneel.
"If you dare to kneel, I'll make sure she's finished off completely," Charlotte's face darkened.
Clara had cunningly trapped herself between a rock and a hard place.
If Clara kneeled, it would mean she was conceding defeat, unable to argue further.
Here, playing mind games? It was truly disgusting.
Clara froze, halting her movement and standing back up. She looked at her sister, struggling to breathe with her eyes rolling back. She pounded on the transparent barrier with all her might.
"Boss! Please, let my sister out! She's about to suffocate! She's just an ordinary person!"
Clara deliberately glanced around, her eyes carrying a subtle threat.
Charlotte saw through it and, her anger peaking, laughed coldly. "Heh."
Clara stopped, terror-stricken, staring at her.
"The most annoying thing is when people try to set me up, treating me like a fool."
"I was initially planning to just give you a lesson. But you two really are sisters—having no ability but daring to offend others. Heh, I can't tolerate such behavior. So why don't you both go on a day trip to the Level 5 zombie zone!"
Charlotte's gaze turned sharp, and with swift action, she selected the area with the highest number of Level 5 zombies, sending Clara and Emma there. She then opened the hotel's built-in surveillance screen, projecting it onto the blank wall.
As soon as Clara and Emma appeared, dozens of Level 5 zombies went berserk, roaring and leaping towards them. Clara and Emma's faces turned ashen, their legs trembling, completely losing their ability to fight back.
At that moment, a transparent protective shield enveloped them, keeping the zombies out.
The sisters screamed as they saw the multitude of Level 5 zombies surrounding them, almost fainting from fear.
In the hotel, Charlotte squinted slightly, looking at the dazed Leo. She asked coldly, "What do you think?"
Leo was dazed, struggling to pull himself together after witnessing the brutality on the screen.
Clara was his only love!
In the apocalypse, strength prevails. Emma had offended the wrong people and dragged his wife into it. Even if they were truly killed, how could Leo avenge them?
He had already warned Clara that her sister was a troublemaker, but she didn't listen... now...
Leo's face was full of bitterness as he spoke, "Let me go too. I'd rather die together."
Charlotte looked at him expressionlessly. The next moment, Leo appeared in the projection.
"Honey! Why did you come too?"
Seeing Leo suddenly appear inside the shield, Clara's initial joy turned into extreme sorrow.
"Why did you come here? Just let us die! The boss is heartless and cruel! My sister and I only said a few words and now we're being completely exterminated! She's going to die in agony anyway—"
Slap!
Leo slapped her across the face, desperately looking around for the monitoring equipment, but found nothing.
"Shut up! It's all your good-for-nothing sister's fault!"
Emma, shrinking into a ball, was nearly crushed against the shield by the added weight of Leo. She was close to being exposed to the zombies outside.
Hearing Leo speak about her, she panicked and retorted, "Why is it all my fault?! It's clearly the boss's fault! I only spoke a few words for others!"
Slap!
Leo slapped her with all his strength, his expression fierce. "Think about all the trouble you've caused! How many times have I and your sister had to clean up your mess! Do you think this is still peacetime? Open your eyes and see what's outside!"
"Honey! Listen to me! Apologize to the boss seriously, and beg her to spare us! We'll live well in the hotel! I'll work hard to kill zombies and collect crystal nuclei! We'll try to have a baby next year! Is that okay?"
Leo gripped Clara's shoulders, his eyes full of pleading.
Clara also had tears in her eyes as she turned to look at her crouching sister.
She understood Leo's intention. The trouble was caused by her sister, and if she made a sincere apology to the boss, they might have a chance to survive.
But... that was her only sister! How could she abandon her sister to live alone?
They had been married for several years and knew each other very well.
Seeing Clara's refusal to speak and continue crying, Leo's heart grew colder. "In your heart, is our years of marriage not as important as your troublesome sister?"
Clara, like a bomb ignited, shoved his hand away and shouted, "My sister is not a troublemaker!"
Emma immediately jumped up, her face twisted with rage. "I'm not a troublemaker! You die! Help us divert the zombies! Brother-in-law!" She kicked him hard in the stomach.
Caught off guard, Leo staggered backward and stepped out of the shield, looking at Clara in disbelief. She quickly turned her head away, unable to bear watching his tragic end.
Emma had completely lost her mind, laughing wildly.
The surrounding zombies, seeing a living person emerge, opened their decaying mouths and pounced.
In that moment, Leo felt utter despair. He could already smell the rotting stench from the zombies. Soon, he too would become one.
Several extremely decayed zombie faces appeared before him.
He was doomed—
The next moment, he found himself back in the hotel.
Leo gasped as he realized he had escaped the zombie horde and returned to the warm hotel. The terror of surviving the ordeal left him weak and drenched in sweat.
He looked pale and out of breath, gazing at the boss behind the counter.
It was her who saved him.
Charlotte remained focused on the projection, not even glancing at him.
Jeremy raised an eyebrow beneath his long hat, noting that Leo had been transported back unscathed from the Level 5 zombie pile. He thought even more highly of Charlotte's extraordinary powers and strength.
The woman standing to the side tried hard to suppress her excitement.
She recognized the location on the projection!
Her team urgently needed Level 4 and 5 crystal nuclei, but Level 5 zombies were rarely found in groups. Gathering crystal nuclei was quite troublesome.
Finding a large number of Level 5 zombies here was a stroke of luck!
In an instant, everyone's thoughts were divided.
Charlotte watched the drama on the projection with a gradually improving mood.
Having seen enough of the spectacle, she dismantled the protective shield. The two arguing sisters were instantly engulfed by the zombie horde, forming a small mound of corpses.
Seeing that there was nothing more to watch, Charlotte turned off the projection and stood up to retrieve Jeremy's goods.
"Customer, which style would you like? Is black okay?"
Jeremy silently watched as she held up a pair of black underwear and nodded.
"Do you need anything else?" Charlotte placed the underwear in a plastic bag.
"One more bag of laundry powder."
"Okay, that's a total of 11 points. Please swipe your card at the front desk."
Charlotte handed him the bag and successfully received the points.
At that moment, Leo, looking somewhat dejected, approached her, deeply bowing and sincerely thanking her. "Thank you, boss, for saving me."
After Clara pushed him, he had given up completely. Years of marital affection... heh...
It was better this way. He no longer had to worry about their food and drink. From now on, he would focus on living well.
Charlotte had been observing Leo closely, ready to kill him immediately if he acted suspiciously.
She was willing to save him back only because Leo hadn't caused trouble. Among the three, he was the most understanding.
Smart people have the right to live; only fools would send themselves to their deaths early.
Seeing him behave so appropriately, Charlotte didn't bother analyzing the truth of his gratitude. As long as he didn't cross the line, she'd let it slide.
Charlotte smiled slightly. "Live well in the hotel."
