It might have been because too much time had passed, or perhaps because Di Jun did not wish to discuss certain matters, which caused Sun Wukong to become increasingly confused the more he heard. In the end, however, with the help of Donghuang Taiyi, he was barely able to make sense of the things Di Jun wanted to convey. Still, some details remained vague between the two of them.
But generally, Sun Wukong had come to understand. Put simply, first, it was because Hongjun the Taoist was so obsessed with breaking through the Great Dao Realm that he caused the Heavenly Dao to errantly evolve spiritual wisdom, and later, it was very likely also influenced by that evil spirit young man, thus finally turning the Heavenly Dao into a conglomerate of greed and malevolence. However, due to the suppression by Nuwa and Fuxi, the Heavenly Dao was mostly calm most of the time.
