Chapter 34 - bitter smiles

Zeki was leaning against a tree, recovering from the exhaustion of the intense battle against Amendonin. His gaze was fixed on the horizon, reflecting on the recent events. The defeat of Amendonin and the destruction around him were evidence of the violence that had occurred. However, he was concerned about the whereabouts of Amendonin, who had disappeared along with three of his henchmen.

The scene shifted to a more remote location, where Amendonin and his henchmen were hiding in a cave. The environment was damp and gloomy, with little light and the echo of water droplets falling from the ceiling. Amendonin was standing, though with difficulty, and his henchmen were around him, all visibly injured and exhausted.

**Amendonin (panting and angry):** "Those bastards... Those kids and the elves... They paid dearly, but it's still not enough."

One of the henchmen, with a worried expression, looked at Amendonin.

**Henchman 1 (tired):** "Boss, the situation is critical. We're all injured, and our resources are scarce. What are we going to do now?"

**Amendonin (with a determined look):** "We'll get revenge. They may have defeated us today, but we'll make them suffer. Those kids and the elves don't know who they're dealing with."

**Henchman 2 (hesitant):** "What about our resources and strength? We're in a weak position for a rematch."

Amendonin, with a cold look, stepped away a bit, trying to gather himself.

**Amendonin (resolved):** "I don't care about our current condition. If necessary, we'll ally with whoever we need to. What matters is that they pay for what they've done. We can't let this slide."

The group discussed their next steps, with Amendonin deciding that revenge against Zeki, Gustavo, Isadora, Bia, and the elves would be the priority. They began devising a plan to regroup and strike back, determined to get their revenge and regain control of their situation.

Meanwhile, Zeki continued to observe the forest around him, aware that the battle was far from over and that the threat of Amendonin still loomed over them.

As Amendonin and his henchmen discussed their plans for revenge, a sound of mocking laughter began to echo through the cave. Amendonin and his henchmen turned, confused, trying to identify the source of the sarcastic comments.

Suddenly, a woman emerged from the shadows with a sneering smile on her face. She was accompanied by two men, both with equally disdainful expressions. The woman introduced herself as Vipera, and her presence seemed to fill the space with an aura of contempt and irony.

**Vipera (laughing and with a sarcastic tone):** "Oh, look at you. If I weren't seeing it with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe that a bunch of losers like you are still trying to cause trouble."

Amendonin's henchmen exchanged confused glances, while Amendonin looked at Vipera with a mix of anger and perplexity.

**Amendonin (irritated and confused):** "Who are you? And what are you doing here? Are you with the same ones who hired us?"

**Vipera (with a malicious smile):** "Exactly. I'm Vipera. And these two idiots here are my companions, Rocco and Tino. They're just part of the circus."

Rocco and Tino, Vipera's henchmen, laughed and mocked the situation.

**Rocco (mocking):** "Look at you, totally broken and aimless. And I thought you were the big threat."

**Tino (joining in the mockery):** "Looks like you're not as unbeatable as you thought, huh?"

Amendonin, stunned, looked at Vipera with a mix of frustration and confusion.

**Amendonin (furious):** "Are you telling me that you were hired by the same person who hired us? What does that mean? Why are you here?"

**Vipera (dismissive):** "Oh, what a surprise! The same guy who hired me isn't interested in you anymore. He thinks your skills are no longer useful to him. And me, well, I was sent to check in and have a little fun with what's left of you."

Amendonin began to feel pressured. The situation was becoming even more complicated with the arrival of Vipera and her henchmen. He realized that his chances of regaining control were dwindling, and his frustration was palpable.

**Amendonin (with anger and desperation):** "So you're saying that, besides losing to those humans and elves, now we have to deal with you, who was sent here to belittle us? This is ridiculous!"

**Vipera (amused):** "Well, you could say so. And I'm here to see how desperate you can get. Who knows, maybe I'll even have some fun before moving on."

With a sarcastic laugh, Vipera and her henchmen prepared to leave the cave, while Amendonin and his men tried to figure out how to deal with this new threat. The situation was changing rapidly, and Amendonin knew he would need to rethink his plans if he wanted any chance of getting revenge and regaining his strength.

Vipera, still with a sarcastic smile, watched Amendonin and his henchmen with growing curiosity.

**Vipera (with a tone of curiosity):** "You know, I'm really intrigued. Who exactly managed to leave a group of B-rank criminals in such a deplorable state? It's not every day I see something like this."

**Amendonin (irritated and evasive):** "You think I owe you an explanation? The point is, we're busy and don't have time for your questions."

**Vipera (with an ironic smile):** "Oh, don't worry. I was just curious. But since you don't want to share, I'll let it slide."

While Vipera was still entertained by her observation, her phone began to ring. She looked at the screen with a disdainful expression and answered the call.

**Vipera (in a disinterested tone):** "Yes, what is it?"

The contractor's voice, heard on the other side of the line, was serious and slightly mocking.

**Contractor (with a firm and cold voice):** "Vipera, I don't usually be a bother, but I see that the situation is getting out of hand. I need you and your men to capture Amendonin."

**Vipera (with a surprised expression):** "What? But I thought you just wanted me to observe the elves and ensure the minerals were collected."

**Contractor (serious and direct):** "That's still valid, but now I'm interested in Amendonin's abilities. He seems to have more potential than I expected. Bring him to me. And be quick. I don't want him to recover or hide."

**Vipera (a bit irritated):** "Understood. And what about his henchmen? What should I do with them?"

**Contractor (in a decisive tone):** "Whatever it takes. Don't worry about that. Just make sure Amendonin is in your custody. And please, don't disappoint me."

Vipera hung up the phone and turned her attention back to Amendonin, now with a calculating look.

**Vipera (in a cold and calculating tone):** "It seems things have changed a bit. Now, besides keeping an eye on the elves, I have a new goal: capturing you."

**Amendonin (with anger and desperation):** "Are you kidding me? How dare you treat me like this? I won't surrender without a fight."

**Vipera (with a sarcastic smile):** "Oh, I don't expect you to surrender easily. In fact, I'd like you to put up a bit of a fight. And please, entertain me."

With those words, Vipera gestured to her henchmen, who were eager and ready to act. They prepared for the next phase of their plan, knowing that capturing Amendonin would be a complicated but necessary task.
