Who is Desmond?
Desmond owns and founded Quantum Corporation.
He is one of the city's wealthiest eligible bachelors. A young billionaire who founded his own business at a relatively young age.
He comes from one of the city's wealthiest and most prestigious families, and his family is well-known among the elite.
So when he ordered me to keep what we had a secret, I didn't bother thinking about it since I didn't want to become embroiled in that web of scandal for my sanity.
However, a child is now involved, and his fiance Sophia, is determined to find out who is responsible for the pregnancy.
If I tell her who the father of my child is, she will ruin my life, and if I don't tell her, I won't have a job to go back to.
Who hires a pregnant maid? I decided to tell her and face the consequences later.
"Desmond," I whispered to her, fixing my attention on the floor.
I didn't expect what happened next.
"You ungrateful b**ch, how dare you!" she hit me.
With tears in my eyes, I placed my palm on the location she smacked. It hurts. "I am sorry..." I couldn't say anything before she stormed off.
A few hours later…
I was informed by the doctor that I had been discharged.
"Doctor, where is the pregnancy test result?'' I asked him.
"The test results were handed to Miss Sophia because she was the one who brought you in; however, you are now fit to go and have been dismissed, Miss.
You can come for regular pregnancy check-ups later, have a great day, and avoid stress, as it is bad for the baby," he told me.
I can't possibly go back to Desmond's house. I don't think I have a place there anymore. And going back to my father's house is an exception.
How did my life get so twisted in a twinkle of an eye? One moment I thought I had everything under control, the next moment it was out of my control.
How should I handle this pregnancy? Desmond would undoubtedly refuse it because he wouldn't want to be seen with a maid, let alone the maid's child.
Once again, life has punished me for my own thoughtless and reckless behavior, leaving me to suffer. How will my father respond to me? I don't even know how to tell him that I became pregnant for my boss.
I got up to go because I needed to go somewhere quiet and far away to reflect on my life and my future. So I wandered out of the hospital, brooding.
I feel like life is so unfair to me. What capacity do I have to care for this child on my own, if at all?
I have spent the previous two hours strolling without a specific destination in mind. I just wanted to reflect and possibly get some fresh air.
However, after spending some time on the road, I finally decided to go home to my dad and deal with the consequences.
A few hours later, Dad came back from where he went and met me sleeping on the couch in the living room.
"Why are you here? Are you not supposed to be in your boss's house?" he asked me.
"I…" I didn't know what to say.
"You look terrible, are you sick?" he questioned.
"Yes Dad, just running temperature but I will be fine" I replied to him.
He didn't take my excuse of being a little unwell; he stared at me as if I was lying. "So did your boss tell you to take some time off because you are sick"? He inquired again, looking at me suspiciously.
I nod my head, "Yes, he did"
I attempted to hide his gaze so he wouldn't see I was telling a lie.
He stared at me before proceeding to his room.
Present day...
Desmond called me and asked, "Why are you not here?"
"I went to see my father," I explained, rolling my eyes.
"As your employer, you don't think telling me isn't important right?" He asked again, pretending he knew nothing about the pregnancy.
"Sir, I've chosen to take some time off work because I'm sick. And I believe your fiance, Sophia, may have informed you why you're unwell," I told him.
It's best to tell him now because he'll find out eventually.
"Yes, she did." However, I am not the father of your unborn child, as we only slept together once," he responded angrily.
I stood my ground and informed him, "Yes, you are responsible for the pregnancy Desmond; just once can impregnate someone just so you know." I wasn't surprised to hear him say that.
I just think telling him about the pregnancy is the appropriate thing to do, regardless of whether he wants to accept responsibility for it or not.
I was still lost in my thoughts when my father walked in, enraged. "So your boss made you pregnant, and you came here to hide.
Do you think I won't find out? He asked while ripping my hair.
"Dad, it was a mistake," I exclaimed.
It turns out that while I was on the phone with Desmond, my father was eavesdropping, which is how he discovered the pregnancy.
"And you think that with that pregnancy, I'll let you stay here?" He gestured to my stomach.
"Go pack your things and leave my house this instant" he commanded.
With tears in my eyes, I took a little bag with a few clothes and set to go visit Desmond and tell him about the recent development. And also bear the consequences of that night in the hands of Sophia, Desmond's fiancee.
I was on my way to Desmond's house, when everything went black for a few seconds, and all I could remember was a shadow raising me and a familiar voice pleading with me to stay alive.
"Please stay with me, Zazi. I don't want to ever lose you again, after all this time looking for you," Richard murmured, panicked.
