Chapter 36 - First Day (III) - Ice-Blooded Hunter

Under the heavy rain of the Terraium's unfortunate weather, Bell sat down in a comfortably warm and dry room beside Aramine.

"Hi, Bell!" Aramine yelled from across the room.

Bell smiled and waved, "Hi Aramine!"

Aramine waved Bell over to where she was sitting beside a boy with shoulder-length curly black hair. The boy, as well as most of the rest of the class were wearing uniforms, and Bell realized that most of the

Aramine then motioned between Bell and the boy, "Bell, this is Shota. Shota, this is Bellona, 'Bell,' for short."

Shota smiled, standing up and exending a hand in greeting, "It's nice to meet you, Bellona."

Bell shook his hand, "Nice to meet you too, Shota."

Shota sat down at his desk while Bell sat in a desk beside Aramine. Almost immediately after, the bell in the middle of the Terrarium rung. It continued tolling as the door opened, and Teacher Sofia entered.

Teacher Sofia was the least assuming Hunting teacher that Bell could have ever seen. She had a sleek business suit and slacks, as she entered, her shoes clacked against the tiled floors.

"Hello, everyone." She said, "We have a few new students as of this morning, so this class will be a bit different than normal."

She reached her desk and sat down, immediately typing a storm at the computer. As she did, she started instruction, not wasting a moment of time during the class period.

"During this month, we will have four modules, three for the newcomers."

The television on the wall turned on, and she was already on a presentation.

"Tomorrow, we have our first exam. It will be for you all to not only infiltrate a Dire Wolf packs den, but also to teach your fellow students all they need to know."

The slide presented was a diagram on some sort of shallow cave system.

"But for today, I will be showing you the anatomy and weak points of your future prey."

She stood up at some point when Bell wasn't paying attention and was standing in front of the television. With a tap, the screen shifted to a new slide and this one had several diagrams of various Wolves.

The first diagram was of a large Dire Wolf with black fur and glowing blue eyes.

The second diagram was of a thin Dire Wolf with no eyes, but instead a large set of whiskers and rather large claws.

The third diagram showed a short and stout Dire Wold that had stone scales instead of fur.

The fourth diagram depicted a Dire Wolf that looked wet, on fire, had fur of icicles, and looked to be made of stone underneath.

"The Dire Dark Wolf has a weak point where mundane Wolves would be weak. The neck, joints, and skull are all good targets, their anatomy is ephemeral. Using attacks or weapons based in magic is reccomended."

Teacher Sofia spoke as she pointed towards the one that was larger, had black fur, and had blue eyes.

'Dire Dark Wolf... got it.' Bell thought to herself as Teacher Sofia pointed towards the next diagram.

"The Dire Mole Wolf is entirely blind, but uses their whiskers to feel their surroundings and use echolocation. They're thinner, so all existing weak points are even softer. Cutting off their whiskers is the best course of action, as it renders the Wolf entirely blind."

Teacher Sofia paused for a moment, nodding once before continuing.

"The Dire Wall Wolf has no specific weak point outside of its eyes, mouth, and rear. If you enter combat with this Wolf, use heavy blunt force on the stone plates. They are heavy, small, and slow, so use that knowledge to your advantage."

Teacher Sofia sighed before pointing towards the final diagram.

"The Dire Elemental Wolf has no weak spots outside of its Armored skull. I will tutor whoever manages to kill such a creature, as they are common enough to be considered a Lesser Beast, but are commonly as powerful as a Greater Beast. Use your wits and caution whenever near one of these animals."

Teacher Sofia then tapped the screen once more, the screen shifting to a diagram of a large den.

"You'll usually find the types of Dire Wolf in their specified regions of the den, if they aren't out hunting for some unknown reason. Firstly, the Moles are digging out further routes for the den. The Walls act as the protectors of the cave, usually sitting just out or in of the entrance. The Dark and Elementalist Wolves are usually out, however, typically hunting prey for the pack."

Teacher Sofia paused momentarily before adding as an after thought.

"If you can get the jump on any specialized Dire Wolf and subjugate it before you're seen, you can usually round up the other Wolves and subjugate them as well."

Bell found the sheer amount of information entering her mind to be just a tad too much, and zoned out as an effect.

She didn't realize she had zoned out, and slowly, Teacher Sofia's words became background noise to the droning of the lights above.

What broke Bell's lack of train of thought was the bell sounding in the distance once more.
