Eugene and the first squad, led by Sylvia, departed after a brief discussion with the Guide. They decided that the best course of action was to confront the monsters before they reached the city. The chosen site was an open area devoid of trees, where they set up a defensive line. Eugene used magic to create a great wall stretching from the north to the east and instructed the warriors to dig traps in front of the stone wall.
After hours of waiting, the enemies finally appeared. The first wave consisted of silver wolves, which possessed an immense amount of magic, far surpassing any ordinary monster in the forest. The silver wolves didn't attack immediately; instead, they observed the stone wall from a distance, heightening the tension.
Among the wolves, one stood out as the leader. It was larger, with silver fur and golden eyes, surrounded by yellow lightning. It looked at the wall calmly, then opened its mouth and spoke in a strong voice: "Send me your strongest."
"It speaks," Eugene was astonished, as it was the first time he had encountered a monster that could talk.
[This wolf possesses a significant amount of magic. It's no surprise that it can speak,] the Guide's voice resonated in Eugene's mind.
Eugene could also sense the immense magical power of the wolf and realized that it could easily destroy the village. He stepped forward to confront it, but Sylvia stopped him, saying, "Leave this to me."
[It's fine. With Sylvia's power, she can defeat it. It's better to conserve your strength,] the Guide advised. Eugene agreed and sent Sylvia to face the wolf.
Sylvia stood before the wolf, her sword at her side. The wolf looked at her with pride and said in a strong voice, "Let me see what you've got."
The yellow lightning around the wolf intensified and spread through the air. Sylvia unleashed her magical power as well, with blue lightning crackling around her. The yellow and blue lightning clashed violently. The wolf opened its mouth and let out a powerful roar, causing a wave of wind that scattered the lightning forcefully, reaching Sylvia.
Suddenly, Sylvia raised her left hand to cover her nose and said, "Your breath smells really bad." Her silver hair fluttered wildly behind her.
The wolf was taken aback. Usually, everyone would be reduced to a pulp after its roar, but this being was unaffected.
Sylvia didn't give the wolf time to think. She drew her sword and vanished from its sight, only to reappear in front of it in an instant. With a vertical slash of her sword, she cut its body in half, spraying blood everywhere. With a smile on her face and her hair disheveled, she appeared like a demon in the eyes of the other wolves.
The wolves, now terrified, fled at top speed, fearing they would meet the same fate as their leader.
"Mmm... They're running away," Sylvia said with disappointment, but then she smiled and looked at Eugene as if to say, "Praise me."
Even Eugene was surprised by what had happened and thought to himself that he should be careful not to anger Sylvia in the future.
Sylvia returned to Eugene's side after her successful confrontation with the wolf leader. "Well done, Sylvia," Eugene said with light praise.
But Sylvia wasn't satisfied with just that. "Didn't I work hard? You should give me a break now~," she said with a slight pout. Eugene ignored her sudden behavior and began scanning the horizon for any approaching monsters.
"Come on, don't ignore me, or I'll cry!" Sylvia insisted, but Eugene continued to disregard her.
With an annoyed look at Eugene, Sylvia said in a childish voice, "Master is so mean. Mean, mean," and stuck out her tongue at him.
Unable to tolerate Sylvia's childish antics any longer, Eugene calmly ordered, "Go and clean yourself from the blood."
"Okay... Okay, you're so boring, Master," Sylvia said with a smile and began walking away to clean herself. Ever since she had grown closer to Eugene, Sylvia had enjoyed teasing him, especially when he was serious.
As Sylvia walked away, Eugene continued to watch the horizon, trying to assess the situation and analyze the movements of the monsters. He felt some relief after they dealt with the first wave, but more vigilance was still needed.
"We mustn't let our guard down," Eugene said quietly to himself. The city was depending on them, and he knew that any negligence could lead to disastrous consequences.
A short while later, Sylvia returned, clean and tidy. "Any new updates?" she asked curiously.
"Nothing yet," Eugene replied. "But we need to stay prepared. This might just be the beginning of a larger attack."
Sylvia nodded and said, "I'm ready for anything. We won't let them get near the city."
Confidence was evident in her eyes, and Eugene felt reassured with her by his side. Together, they formed a formidable force, determined to protect their city no matter the cost.
The night began to fall, and the sky was dotted with stars. Eugene and Sylvia stood by the stone wall, speaking quietly and planning for the future, ready to face any challenge that came their way.
Time passed, and morning arrived, bringing with it a new wave of monsters, more numerous and diverse than the first. The attack included wolves, bears, orcs, goblins, and many strange creatures. Their numbers easily exceeded a thousand.
The warriors fell into fear at the sight of the overwhelming number of monsters. Sylvia appeared very serious as she tried to organize the warriors.
The tension and fear were palpable. Unfortunately, the situation was only getting worse.
Eugene's eyes widened in shock. Sylvia noticed this change and asked, "Master, are you okay?" She received no response, which only increased her concern.
After a few moments of contemplation, Eugene looked at Sylvia and said, "Take the warriors and return to the village; it's under attack."
"What? And you?" Sylvia asked, looking at Eugene with a clear understanding of what he intended to do.
"That's an order," Eugene said with such seriousness that even Sylvia was taken aback, but she couldn't disobey Eugene's command.
--------
Eugene watched as Sylvia and the warriors made their way back to the village, then turned his gaze back to the approaching army of monsters.
"It's just me and you now," Eugene said as he drew his sword and charged at the monsters.
Night had fallen when the monster army began their assault on the wall. The terrifying sounds echoed through the air, and the monsters, in all their shapes and forms, poured out of the forest in unprecedented numbers. Amidst this chaos, Eugene stood at the forefront of the defense, his sword glowing with magical power.
With each strike of his sword, Eugene unleashed immense magical power, using all his skills and abilities. He fought the monsters bravely and resolutely, unfazed by the overwhelming numbers attacking him. The air around him was filled with the smell of blood and sweat, and the ground beneath his feet shook with every monster that fell.
A wave of giant monsters charged toward him, their sharp fangs and glowing eyes reflecting their hunger and desire for destruction. With a swift motion, Eugene raised his hand and summoned a wall of fire, burning the advancing enemies. He knew this attack wouldn't be enough to stop them for long.
Eugene began to feel fatigued; the number of monsters was immense, and the battle seemed endless. But he knew he couldn't give up. Protecting his village and friends was the ultimate goal, and the power running through his veins kept him going despite the wounds and exhaustion.
One of the monsters, stronger and faster than the others, suddenly attacked him from the right side, sinking its claws into his right arm. Eugene screamed in pain but didn't retreat. With a swift strike of his sword, he decapitated the monster, but in doing so, he lost his right arm. The pain was indescribable, but he ignored it, focusing all his strength on keeping himself standing.
[Confirmation: Individual Eugene has met all the conditions.]
[Evolution to Saint has begun.]
The voice of the world echoed.
At that moment, Eugene felt a change within him. A new power emerged from the depths of his soul, a power beyond explanation. In a moment of extraordinary evolution, Eugene transformed into a complete "Saint." He felt his blood boil with this newfound power.
