As they stepped inside the pack house, Roseanne felt a dull ache from the small cut on her arm. The excitement and adrenaline from their run to safety had masked it, but now it throbbed softly under her skin. Skyla, noticing Roseanne's expression, gently nudged her forward, directing her to a quiet room nearby.
"Come on," Skyla said as she motioned for Roseanne to sit on the edge of the bed. "Let's take a look at that arm."
Roseanne's cheeks flushed slightly, embarrassed. She still felt a little guilty for leaving Skyla to face the rogues alone, even though she knew she'd only done as Skyla had insisted. As Skyla soaked a cloth in a basin of cool water, Roseanne took a deep breath.
"Skyla… I'm sorry for running off like that," Roseanne said. She shifted her gaze to the ground, her fingers playing with the edge of her shirt. "I shouldn't have left you there."
