Just like I said, it was in the province where I learned more about the aswang. I had playmates there when I was in grade school. At first, it was Len-Len who told me stories, but I always contradicted her, dismissing her tales as nonsense. This often led to us sulking and bickering as siblings. Finally, she challenged me to ask our neighbors about the aswang!
So, I followed she said. Around six in the evening, just before dinner, I started visiting the neighbors. First, I went to Christina's house—she had a crush on me. But it wasn't a good time as they were still praying. So, I headed to another house instead, going to Minaw and Ebeng's place with Tin-Tin.
That neighborly visit scored me a free dinner. Pork sinigang, sweet potato leaves with fish sauce and wild chili, tomatoes, and smoked fish! These were cooked over charcoal, and we eat with bare hands! What a treat!
After dinner, we went straight to the makeshift space under Minaw, Ebeng, and Tin-Tin's house. We were joined by Minaw's cousin, Ate Rose. They all had chilling stories to tell, especially Ate Rose.
