Although both Nen and magic were forms of energy derived from life force, they couldn't observe each other directly.
This was because the energy used to perceive one another was the very energy they each wielded.
Therefore, except for specific techniques, these two distinct powers were mutually imperceptible.
Consequently, when Mellie manipulated others using magic, it was extremely difficult to detect.
This stemmed from the fundamental differences between their respective worlds.
Among Nen users, those with Manipulation abilities usually required a medium to control external objects effectively.
Otherwise, the manipulation wouldn't be as potent.
However, through vows and restrictions, a medium could significantly amplify a Manipulator's control.
Thus, most powerful Manipulators exhibited visible signs of their manipulation, these were their mediums.
Biscuit was surprised precisely because she couldn't discern Mellie's medium.
"So that's how it is!" Biscuit exclaimed, a look of understanding dawning on her face.
Because she was a Specialist, she didn't have a visible medium.
While this explanation seemed contradictory, it was par for the course in the Hunter x Hunter world.
Any ability that was illogical, unconventional, or simply bizarre could be categorized as Specialization.
Specialization was like a giant catch-all category, a dumping ground for anything that didn't fit neatly elsewhere.
Although Mika's explanation sounded like a fabrication, Biscuit, lacking any other plausible explanation, had no choice but to accept it.
With Biscuit no longer concerned about the eight individuals behind them, the group quickly arrived at the game's venue: an indoor sports arena.
"Welcome, everyone!"
Razor, who had been all smiles, suddenly straightened his face as he watched the group enter the arena.
His demeanor turned visibly serious.
"I didn't expect to encounter such powerful individuals in this game."
Razor's eyes narrowed slightly as he observed the aura flowing around Mika.
He felt a sense of danger he hadn't experienced in a long time.
But just as quickly, his eyes returned to their usual state, and a smile returned to his face.
In that moment, Razor remembered.
He was no longer the person he once was.
This wasn't the place where he used to engage in deadly combat.
This was Greed Island, a game, and he was merely a part of it.
As for the others, they were just players.
...
"The first event is boxing!" Razor announced with a smile, looking at Mika and his group.
A boxer wearing gloves stepped into the ring, bouncing on the balls of his feet and shadowboxing.
"Boxing? Then you go."
Mellie issued the command.
Following her order, a burly man stepped forward from the group and entered the ring.
Looking at his opponent, who was confidently shadowboxing, the man smirked.
Mika couldn't help but chuckle at the sight.
The man in the ring was currently in a "dream state."
Mellie was controlling his actions.
With Mellie's masterful Nen manipulation techniques, the man's combat abilities were amplified tenfold.
Moreover, before arriving at the arena, Mellie had enhanced all eight individuals with magic.
She had also cast various other support spells on them.
In short, under Mellie's control and enhancements, the eight individuals were dozens of times stronger than they normally would be.
They were like a treasure trove of untapped potential, and Mellie was the key to unlocking their true power.
"Let the match begin!"
As Razor announced the start of the match, the man controlled by Mellie dashed towards his opponent.
A flurry of punches rained down on the boxer's face.
According to the information Mellie had obtained from Killua, the boxer's ability was "teleportation."
However, it wasn't full-body teleportation, but rather the ability to teleport his fists.
He could send his fists across vast distances to strike his opponents.
Therefore, it was crucial to deny him the opportunity to utilize his ability.
Mellie opted for a direct assault.
Under the relentless barrage of punches from the man controlled by Mellie, the boxer quickly collapsed onto the canvas.
"As expected, he was no match for us."
Mellie smiled smugly, observing their victory.
The moment they entered the indoor sports arena, Mellie knew they would win.
Various kanji characters were inscribed on the boxing ring.
These were a unique feature of the Hunter x Hunter world.
These kanji amplified the boxer's Nen abilities.
The fact that the boxer relied on these kanji to enhance his powers indicated that he wasn't a particularly powerful Nen user.
"Hmph, let's move on to the next event! I can't wait to claim our victory!" Mellie declared excitedly, standing behind Mika.
"The second event is bowling!" Razor announced without delay.
"Bowling, huh?"
"Then you go!"
Mellie confidently selected a member of their group.
As expected, they won effortlessly.
After bowling, the next event was basketball.
Unsurprisingly, Mika's side emerged victorious once again.
"This is incredible! At this rate, we'll achieve a swift victory!" Goreinu exclaimed, impressed by their three consecutive wins.
He had initially anticipated the need to switch team members after each loss, but under Mellie's control, the competition proved surprisingly easy.
"She's remarkable!"
Goreinu looked at Mellie with newfound respect.
"Excellent! We've won the third round. I assume the fourth round is next?" Killua asked Razor excitedly.
"Indeed. The fourth event is sumo wrestling!"
"Sumo wrestling... Then we'll choose..."
Before Mellie could finish her sentence, the opposing sumo wrestler roared in anger.
He refused to abide by the game's rules and even tried to incite the other contestants to rebel against Razor.
In response, Razor launched a Nen bullet, obliterating the sumo wrestler's head.
"Those who violate the rules will be severely punished. Didn't I make that clear?" Razor said calmly, looking at the corpse on the floor.
"Y-Yes, you did," the other contestants stammered, trembling with fear.
Razor simply shook his head and picked up a ball, approaching Mika and his group.
"Now, it's my turn."
"The event is eight-on-eight dodgeball!"
Mika rose from the floor with a smile, his eyes meeting Razor's.
For him, the game had just begun.
---
"Eight-on-eight dodgeball?" Killua was taken aback upon hearing Razor's words.
"Wait, if it's not a one-on-one match, how do you determine the winner?"
"The winning team automatically gets eight wins, of course!" Razor explained with a smile.
"I see. So that's why there's such a difference in strength between you and the others. You're the boss, aren't you?" Mellie realized.
From the moment she laid eyes on Razor, Mellie had sensed something different about him.
Compared to him, the other "demons," though Nen users, were small fry, not worth much attention.
This was evident from the quality of their aura.
Razor was different. The Nen he emitted was on a completely different level.
She had wondered why his role in the multi-event competition was so minimal.
After all, each person could only participate in one event.
Was this an act of kindness from the organizers?
Mellie didn't believe it. Just triggering this specific quest was incredibly difficult.
Mellie knew there was more to this than met the eye.
That was why, in the previous matches, she had prioritized using the individuals under her control, conserving their strength for later.
As expected, her suspicions were confirmed.
"So that's it. No matter how many of the small fry lose, you can turn the tide single-handedly, right?"
"And what about your eight players? Will you choose them from these underlings behind you?" Mellie asked Razor pointedly.
"Of course not!" Razor chuckled.
The next moment, eight Nen beasts materialized behind him, their forms composed entirely of aura.
Their faces were marked with the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
The Nen beast with "0" on its face wore a distinct black outfit, unlike the others.
"My teammates for this match are these Nen beasts and myself. Number 0 will act as the referee. If you have any questions about the rules, you can ask him."
"I see. So the 'Razor and the Fourteen Demons' must refer to your Nen ability," Mellie remarked, observing Razor's Nen beasts.
"In that case, our eight players will be Mika, Airmid, Mellie, Gon, Killua, Biscuit, Goreinu, and myself!" Gabriel suddenly declared.
Upon seeing Razor's Nen beast teammates, Gabriel couldn't resist joining the game.
She took it upon herself to announce their team's lineup.
"Are you sure you can participate?" Airmid asked, looking at the excited Gabriel with concern.
Since Gabriel had volunteered, she clearly wasn't planning to be a mere spectator.
However, her small size could be a significant disadvantage in a physical game like dodgeball.
After all, Gabriel wasn't even a meter tall!
"Hmph! Don't underestimate me!"
With a twirl in the air, Gabriel's body began to grow, enveloped in a surge of aura.
She transformed into her true form, the goddess Yahweh.
"Since everyone here has been using your three auras, I haven't taken this form."
"But if I so choose, I can do anything!" Gabriel declared confidently, hands on her hips.
The arena fell silent as Gabriel transformed into Yahweh's majestic form.
Everyone stared at her in stunned silence.
After all, Gabriel had taken on the appearance of a Goddess.
For those in the Hunter x Hunter world, who had never encountered a God before, this was a truly shocking sight.
It took a considerable amount of time for them to recover from their astonishment.
"It seems you're ready. Then allow me to explain the rules," Razor said, having quickly regained his composure.
Just as he was about to begin, Gon's voice interrupted him.
"Wait!"
"Bobopo was your companion, wasn't he? What did he do to deserve being killed by your own hand?!"
For Gon, killing a companion was an unforgivable act.
"Bobopo? If I recall correctly, he was charged with eleven crimes, including robbery and murder," Razor replied calmly.
"What do you mean?" Gon was confused.
"He's saying that 'Bobopo' was a criminal who could have been executed at any time. He wasn't Razor's companion," Mellie quickly explained.
"You might not know this, Gon," Mika continued, "but this game, Greed Island, doesn't transport us into a virtual world. This is the real world."
"Based on what Razor said earlier, I suspect he's one of the game's creators. The NPCs are likely criminals taken from prisons and confined here instead."
"He's essentially their warden, with the authority to execute them at any time."
"You heard what Bobopo said, right? He disobeyed Razor's orders and tried to incite the other prisoners to escape."
"This is the real world? I didn't notice at all!"
Both Killua and Biscuit were stunned by Mika's revelation.
After a brief moment of shock, Gon turned to Razor and shouted, "If this is the real world, then where's Ging?! Is Ging here?!"
"Ging?!"
Razor froze, his eyes widening in surprise.
Suddenly, his aura surged, releasing an oppressive wave of pressure that washed over everyone.
"I see. So you're Ging's son, Gon."
A sinister grin spread across Razor's face.
"Ging once said that if it were you who came, I shouldn't hold back!"
Razor's aura intensified, pressing down on everyone present.
Mika, Mellie, Airmid, and Gabriel remained unfazed.
However, Killua, Biscuit, and Goreinu's faces paled.
The sheer power emanating from Razor exceeded their wildest imaginations.
But unlike them, Gon, despite feeling the overwhelming pressure, didn't show any fear. Instead, a wide grin spread across his face.
His blood began to boil with excitement.
