Writer's POV
The front porch of the apartment Betty and Theo shared looked strangely different as she alighted from the taxi that had brought her home. There was a car parked directly in front of the house.
"Had Theo gotten home before her?" She thought as she walked quietly to the door. The last time she remembered , she had left him at the restaurant sitting alone looking dumbfounded.
"this is not Theo's car" she whispered to no one in particular.
She hesitated for a while, scared to go in. She did not know for how long she had been patiently waiting for someone to come out of the house but she eventually got tired of waiting and decided to walk around the house to see if anyone was there.
She was so mad at Theo but his presence would mean a lot to her at that moment but then she resisted the urge to call him.
She went through the garden behind the kitchen peering into the house from the kitchen window.
"Hello" she said rather too loud, her voice shaking with fear.
This was her house , why did she need to be this scared . She picked up her phone, finally giving in to the urge to call Theo and inform him that there might be an intruder in the house. Just then someone gently tapped her on the shoulder.
She freaked out covering her eyes with her palm "please don't hurt me".
She was waiting for someone to hit her on the head with a hammer but nothing happened.
"What the hell are you doing peeping into the kitchen like that?" Theo asked amused trying to suppress the laughter that had already built up in his throat.
"And who is going to hurt you?"
She gave him a side eye , a look that says she was still very much mad at him.
How did she not hear him arrive ?
She had been too engrossed in her fear to hear him drive in.
"Did you lost your keys?" He asked ignoring the death stare that she gave him.
"I was checking to see if we have a guest….or an intruder" she said as she walked back to the front porch.
"Why is someone's car parked here anyways?" she was clearly annoyed.
Who goes about parking their car in front of somebody's property without permission.
Theo burst out laughing suddenly understanding the reason why she had reacted with so much fear.
She looked annoyed as she struggled to open the door . The only thing she needed was her bed and not this silly tipsy and annoying boyfriend of hers.
Well she was tipsy too. All thanks to the wine tasting at the restaurant.
It was supposed to be a perfect night.
"That's your car" Theo said stretching out the car keys towards her.
"That's your anniversary gift."
She stopped abruptly, she looked from Theo to the beautiful car parked in front of the house.
He walked up to her gently, took her hand and placed the car key on her palm. Gave her hand a little squeeze before finally planting a kiss on it.
"I'm sorry Bet, I'm sorry for ruining our anniversary date. How can I make it up to you?"
She was dumbfounded. She wanted to speak but the right words can't seem to find it's way out of her mouth. She just kept looking at him , with mixed feelings. She didn't know how to feel or how to react . She had been saving up to buy a new car after her old one bailed out on her last year.
She hugged her boyfriend tightly , buried her face in his chest as she allowed the tears flow freely. She was crying for so many reasons.
"Thank you" she whispered amidst sobs.
He picked her up in his arms like a baby and carried her inside.
Theo was the first to wake up the next morning, he freshened up and headed out of the house while Betty was still sleeping soundly.
He was not sure what he wanted to do or where he was going but he could not get the thought of Anna being in Paris off his head.
"Paris doing what ? With who?" He thought.
Going to Paris was not the issue because she had uploaded her exact location. How dumb of her to have done that, he shook his head. He found himself driving towards the road that lead to Leylah's salon, Leylah would definitely know what her sister was up to in Paris.
And what if she knew ? Would she tell him?
But he kept on driving until he was in the parking lot of the shopping complex where the salon stood out amongst all the stores.
Leylah got out in time just as he was stepping out of his expensive car. He made heads turn and earned stares especially from the opposite gender.
She stopped when she noticed the young man walking towards her, hands in his pockets smiling at her.
"Theo?" She thought recognizing him instantly.
She could not help but wonder what business he had here.
"Hey" she said , giving him a look that shows that he was the last person she was expecting to see.
"Hi Leylah…" he was still smiling . "Congrats on your wedding , I figured I haven't congratulated you properly. I was in a hurry on the wedding day."
She smiled back at him waiting for him to continue .
"You came all the way to say this?" she thought laughing inwardly.
He got the hint and quickly said "oh I was driving by and I decided to stop and maybe get a haircut."
He gestured towards her salon.
"Thank you that's very thoughtful of you. I'm on my way out actually, someone will attend to you , just go in" she said walking towards her car. She didn't trust him. If her sister said he's bad then he's bad even though she felt guilty because Anna did not give her a specific reason why the young man is a bad person asides from the fact that he broke her heart.
Well that's enough reason. Breaking her baby sister's heart is enough reason to be bad.
Theo watched her quietly as she walked towards her car .
"Leylah!" He called after her and regretted the decision almost immediately because when she looked back he could see annoyance clearly written on her face even though she tried to hide it with a fake smile.
"Why is Anna in Paris? Is she coming back home at all" he wanted to ask her.
But instead he just smiled and said "see you some other time."
He entered the salon immediately not waiting to hear her reply or see her reaction . He settled in for a haircut that he didn't plan to get , at least he would have an excuse as to why he was out of the house. Because he really wanted to avoid pissing Betty off again.
