In a family where Elemental abilities were the pride of the Gensai lineage, Seth stood out—he was the only one without any powers. Chapter 1: The Bastard

Seth's eyes were shut as his body tossed and turned, groaning. In his mind, he saw glimpses of a man standing in the middle of a storm. The man was huge, with long white hair and tattoos covering his right side from chest to elbow.

"Seth!~~~~"

A voice in his head kept screaming his name. He writhed until a bolt of purple lightning struck the man in the vision.

His eyes snapped open.

"Pant…. Pant…. Just…. What was that….?"

It was none other than Seth Crow.

Seth panted heavily, recalling his dream. Covered in a sweat-soaked blanket, he slowly got up, realizing he was in the nurse's office.

At Cryptid Academy, bullying was a daily occurrence for Seth. He was half-human, half-Lightning Genasi, with pure white hair but no powers. His father was Patriarch Ankou, and his mother a concubine, making him a bastard child. His half-brothers, Justus and Luke, also attended the academy and were the main bullies.

Justus, a Lightning Genasi with white hair like Seth and Ankou. Luke, a Fire Genasi with black hair, was the mastermind behind their schemes. Both brothers had unstable personalities, especially Justus, who was particularly volatile.

"So you're finally awake, Setekh."

A voice came from behind the curtain. Seth moved the curtain aside.

"Why do you persist in staying at the academy?"

A woman in a nurse outfit with long gray hair and two pointy black mixed red horns stood there. Nurse Saradia, a Succubus, also known as Dark Medic Saradia, was the only person who seemed to care about Seth's situation.

"I'm worried about you. If you continue this way, you might face dire consequences. You could even lose your life."

"Thank you for the advice, Saradia, but I'm fine."

Whack!

"Ow!"

Nurse Saradia whacked Seth on the back of the head.

"It's Nurse Saradia or Ms. Saradia to you, Setekh."

"Okay, okay."

"Here, drink this. It'll heal you right up."

Nurse Saradia handed him a green potion in a glass.

"What is it?"

"It's a healing potion I created just for you."

He took a small sip... and immediately frowned.

"Ah! That's so disgusting."

"You want to get smacked again? Finish all of it."

"Okay, I'll finish it."

Gulp, Gulp~~~

"Ah! There."

Nurse Saradia gave Seth a concerned look.

"Please reconsider my offer to leave the academy, Setekh."

"I already said I'm fine."

"Are you really trying to die, Seth!"

"I said I'm fine!"

Seth yelled with a grim expression on his face as he slid off the examination table, adjusted his uniform, and headed for the door.

"Don't worry, I'll be more careful."

Nurse Saradia watched Seth walk out of the office for the countless time. She sighed, her eyes lingering on the door.

"Luke, how come you're in this class? Don't tell me you're waiting for Seth?"

Luke leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable.

"And what if I am? Got a problem with that?"

Donfoo shook his head. Like everyone else, he was afraid of Luke, even some teachers were. Luke had a reputation that earned him the nickname "Luke the Terror."

"I heard they sent him to the nurse's office."

One student whispered.

"Again?"

"Yeah."

It was no surprise to the students that Seth had been sent to the nurse's office again. The brutality was something they never got used to. Most students preferred it be Seth than them facing Luke's wrath.

Just then, the door opened, catching everyone's attention. A figure with pure white hair, blue eyes, and a black suit with red markings entered.

"Isn't that Seth?"

"I thought they beat him to the brink of death?"

"No way. Luke wouldn't lie about that, right?"

"I mean, it's his brother after all. There's no way he'd beat him up to the brink of death, right?"

The students seemed to agreed with the other him.

As students chattered among themselves, Luke was bewildered. He was certain they had left Seth with barely an inch of life.

Seth walked to his usual seat, ignoring Luke's bewildered expression. He sat down and laid his head on the desk.

"That fucking, cocky bastard,"

Luke muttered, his eyes widening in disbelief and anger. He stood up and called out Seth's name, causing Donfoo to panic.

"Set—"

Just then, the door opened again, cutting Luke off. Professor Willion, also known as the Elemental Wizard Willion, entered. It was time for class to begin. He glanced at Luke, who looked ready to commit murder.

"Luke... What are you doing here?!"

"I was just about to leave, Professor,"

Professor Willion was one of the few teachers who weren't afraid of Luke, and one of the few Luke was afraid of. And Luke wasn't scared of most things.

Luke walked down the steps, giving Seth a mean look, but Seth simply ignored him again.

Luke thought to himself, "That fucking bastard! Just wait and see."

"Class, congratulations on making it to the second semester. Today, you all will be going through your two types of awakenings. I'm sure everyone knows what primary awakening is."

[Primary awakening is an automatic awakening, like being able to cry without learning how to cry—it's automatic; you already know how to do it. All humans have a primary awakening.]

The instructor finally came to the part everyone was looking forward to the most.

"You'll be going through your secondary awakening and inheritance awakening."

[Secondary awakening is the opposite of primary awakening. It requires something to unlock your abilities. All creatures have it, but humans have the most potential in it.]

[Inheritance awakening is an awakening where you borrow abilities that aren't originally yours and develop them to become your own. It's like taking a tight elastic band—it might not seem like it'll fit, but when you put it on, it'll expand to fit you.]

***

Seth was the only one not looking forward to this. It would be his third awakening attempt. When patriarch Ankou found out his bastard son hadn't had a primary awakening, he sought help from a professor to awaken Seth using the Secondary Awakening. It didn't work, and his father gave up on him. Since then, Seth became the target of the main side of the family, leading him to leave home and come to Cryptic Academy.

Professor Willion rummaged through the items on the desk.

"Some of you have seen this before. It's an awakening crystal."

He added, Although it's an awakening crystal, it won't necessarily awaken all of you.

"All you have to do is to grab one of these Awakening crystal over here."
