Chapter 8 - Freshman

After all the wait, it was finally time for resumption. Zhu Hui Ying had dragged me back home at some point because she claimed that after confirming my relationship, I had forgotten all about my family. I could only obediently follow her back because she wasn't wrong.

So now I was sitting in her very flashy red supercar, attracting alot of attention.

"Why did you have to bring this car?"

"Hey you should be grateful. I only take this car out on special occasions okay"

I got out of the car rolling my eyes

"Yeah yeah. I hear you. Bye"

I shut the door and she waved at me. I waved back and she zoomed off.

I walked into the school amidst various gazes. There was a lot of talk going around

[Which family's young master is this?]

[Who is this cute little brother? Does anyone know which department he is in?]

[I just want to put him in my pocket and run away]

[You say, if I ask for his number will I get rejected?]

Although a lot of people were talking, no one actually approached me and I went to the registration office without any hiccup.

As I made my way around, I felt a deep sense of novelty. Despite having lived one life, I had never experienced university life. At this time in my previous life, I was in a different state trying to make it big in business and prove my family wrong.  The campus was massive, with students bustling about, all of them seeming to know exactly where they were going and what they were doing. Meanwhile, I was still trying to figure out where the registration office was without getting lost.

Zhu Hui Ying's flashy send-off didn't help either. Her red supercar had drawn even more attention to me, and now I felt like every pair of eyes on campus was watching my every move. I approached a group of girls and asked for directions.

They pointed me in the right way and I gratefully thanked them. While I was leaving I heard them talking behind me.

[Ahhhh he's so cute!]

[Omg omg. That voice. I feel like if I die now it would be worth it]

[ Did anyone look at his face. Why is he so handsome? There are simply no blemishes on that face.]

I touched my nose in embarrassment and increased my pace.

They were a lot more like them so I kept my head down, trying to ignore the whispers and stares as I finally located the registration office. It was a relief to step inside and find that the atmosphere was much calmer than outside. There were a few students waiting in line, and I quickly joined them.

As I waited, I couldn't help but think back to Zhu Hui Ying's words. She was right—I had been so focused on getting into this prestigious school and starting this new chapter of my life that I had neglected my family. I felt regretful. I had promised myself to change things but the only difference between this life and my last is probably only that I haven't destroyed my life yet. And Zhu Hui Ying, despite her teasing, had only dragged me home out of concern. Reflecting on myself made me realize that I am still too immature.

"Next," the registration officer called, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I stepped up to the counter and handed over my documents. The officer, a middle-aged woman with a no-nonsense expression, glanced at my papers before looking up at me with a slightly softer expression.

"First day, huh?" she asked, her tone not unkind.

I nodded, flashing her a polite smile. "Yes, sister."

Her eyes crinkled at the corner as she let out a laugh.

"I am already so old and you still call me sister"

My eyes widened in pretend astonishment

"Ah. But the sister looks so young!"

She laughed again and handed me my processed documents "Here's your student ID and your dormitory assignment. You'll be in Building C, Room 312. Classes start tomorrow, so you'll have some time to settle in today."

I thanked her and took the documents.

As I left the office, I glanced at the map of the campus that I had been given.

The campus was even more impressive up close. Tall buildings with sleek, modern designs were interspersed with patches of green, where students were lounging on the grass or chatting under the shade of trees. I nodded my head in approval. Not bad, for the amount I'm paying.

I walked into the dormitory and looked around. They were four beds. Two bunked up. I was the only one here and all four of the beds were empty. I chose one of them and made the bed. I cleaned the table arranged my things on it.

As I finished unpacking and began to settle into my new room, the door creaked open. I turned to see a tall boy with short, messy hair step in, carrying a large duffel bag. He looked around the room, his eyes landing on me with a friendly smile.

"Hey, you must be one of my roommates," he said, dropping his bag on the bed closest to the door. "Im Lei Yuanyun. What's your name?"

"Zhu Mingze," I replied, returning his smile. "Nice to meet you."

He nodded, already busy unpacking his things. "Your'e the first one here. Do you have any idea who the others are?"

I shook my head. "No, I just got here"

"Ohhhh. The others should be around soon, I guess."

As if on cue, the door swung open again, and two more boys walked in. They were both tall but had contrasting temperaments. The first one looked calm and gentle. He had a pair of glasses that sealed the look. The second one was a bit more unruly. He wore torn fashionable jeans and a diamond stud on one ear. It would stand to mention that his hair was red. No not red, more like dark red(burgundy)  Both looked around the room, quickly sizing it up before introducing themselves.

"Hey, my name is Zhao Runchu" The red haired dude said, throwing his bag on the bed above Lei Yuanyun's.

The taller boy with glasses chuckled. "Mu Haoran. He looked at the bed I had already claimed, which was on the bottom, and gave me a quick nod. "Hope you don't mind sharing the bunk."

"Not at all, It's good to meet you all."

With all of us now gathered in the room, there was an instant buzz of energy as we started talking, getting to know each other. Lei Yuanyun was from the northern part of the country, and he was here to study engineering. Zhao Runchu was aiming to major in computer science, and Mu Haoran, was majoring in finance.

"So, Zhu Mingze, what are you here for?" Lei Yuanyun asked, looking at me expectantly.

Before I could answer Zhao Runchu cut in

"Wait Zhu Mingze?" He exchanged a glance with Mu Haoran

"As in Zhu of the Zhu family?"

"Yes.... What's wrong?"

"Oh nothing. My old man just asked me to have a good relationship with you or not to offend you if I couldn't do the previous one"

Mu Haoran picked up a book and hit him from behind then turned to apologize to me

"I'm sorry about him. He's a bit loose with words"

I smiled non-committal.

"It's fine. I prefer straight forward people like this. Besides I do have a good impression of you guys"

Lei Yuanyun clapped his hands to get our attention

"Hellooo! Is there anything I'm missing?"

Zhao Runchu answered him

"So basically we've hugged a golden thigh. You're not from here so you might not know it but his family is really wealthy"

He looked at me with shining eyes

"Is that true?"

"I guess you can say that"

He slapped a hand on his thigh

"I never thought I'd ever have a wealthy friend. What's it like growing up in a wealthy family?"

I looked up at him and only saw pure curiosity in his eyes. I huffed out a low laugh

"Pretty normal actually. I have an older sister, a father and a stepmom."

His eyes widened

"You have a stepmom? What is she like? Is it like in all those dramas where the step mother tries to ruin her husband's child so she can have all the man's property to herself?"

Zhao Runchu and Mu Haoran looked at him strangely

"What kind of things do you watch?"

He scratched his ear

"Isn't it what they show?"

I coughed lightly

"No it's not like that. She's raised me since I was little."

Zhao Runchu looked at me quietly for a while

"Then you're quite lucky"

"Yeah. I know."

Mu Haoran tried to liven up the atmosphere.

"So, back to the previous question. Which course are you majoring in?"

"Film and television. And I'm minoring in drama"

"Whoa that's so cool. When do you plan on entering the entertainment industry?"

"Probably in sophomore year."

"That's nice. Is your family planning on branching out to entertainment?"

"No. We're still in real estate. But I have my own company so I don't need to sign with any other entertainment companies "

Lei Yuanyun clapped his hands

"Whoa. The actions of you rich people have made me reset my three views. So I'm actually roommates with a CEO. That's so cool. Hey, for the sake of our newfound brotherhood. If you are in need of employees, you have to put us in consideration first okay"

I couldn't help but laugh

"Of course. Definitely "
