Chereads / The Disastrous Life of Saiki / Chapter 29 - Not Again

Chapter 29 - Not Again

The last day of winter vacation. A day that should be peaceful, quiet, and completely free from stress. For most people, it's a time to relax before the grind of school starts again. But for Saiki Kusuo, it's a day filled with dread.

Saiki (thinking): Yare yare. One more day. Just one more day of peace before I'm thrown back into that circus called school. I've spent the past two weeks avoiding everyone, dodging surprise visits, and ignoring Nendou's nonstop texts. Now it's all for nothing.

(He sat at his desk, staring out the window. Snow gently fell, filling the streets in white. The calmness outside mocked the storm brewing inside him.)

Saiki (thinking):

It's not the lessons. Those are easy. It's not even the teachers. They usually leave me alone. No, the real problem is the classmates. Every. Single. One. Of. Them. From Nendou's loud stupidity to Kaidou's constant Dark Reunion nonsense, to Teruhashi's unbearable 'I'm so perfect' act.

(He sighed, sipping his coffee jelly. At least there was one good thing in his life.)

Saiki (thinking):

Maybe I should just fake being sick tomorrow. But then Mom will make me soup, Dad will stay home to take care of me, and before I know it, Nendou and Kaidou will be at the door asking if I'm okay.

He glared at the empty space in his room, thinking of Nendou's ridiculous face pressed against the window.

Saiki (thinking):

No, skipping isn't an option. If I have to suffer, I might as well get it over with.

(Just as he thought that, he heard the familiar sound of footsteps in the hallway.)

Saiki (thinking):

Speak of the devil.

(A knock on his door.)

Saiki's Mom (cheerfully):

Kusuo! Nendou and Kaidou are here to see you!

(He froze, spoon halfway to his mouth.)

Saiki (thinking):

I don't even have school yet, and they're already here. Can't I catch a break?

(He opened the door to find Nendou grinning ear to ear, Kaidou looking dramatic as ever, and his mom happily waving them in.)

Nendou:

Yo, pal! Thought we'd hang out before school starts!

Kaidou:

We need to prepare, Saiki. The Dark Reunion could attack us at any moment tomorrow. We must be ready.

Saiki (thinking):

Great. Just what I needed,a preview of tomorrow's chaos.

(They entered into his room, Nendou jumping onto the floor and Kaidou dramatically scanning the room for threats.)

Nendou:

So, what've you been up to, pal? Bet you missed us, huh?

Saiki (thinking):

If by 'missed' ,you mean 'prayed for your disappearance,' then yes.

(The evening dragged on with their endless chatter, Nendou's loud laughter shaking the walls, and Kaidou's exaggerated theories about school conspiracies. By the time they finally left, Saiki was too drained to even enjoy his coffee jelly.)

Saiki (thinking):

Yare yare. I guess school isn't too different. I have to struggle to meet all my classmates every day… since they come to meet me even when I don't have school.

And with that, he closed his eyes, preparing himself for another long day of surviving his classmates.
