Jasmine's pov
"Jasmine, it's so great to see you," Sam, my high school best friend, said with a smile as she and Alex joined me at a table in the restaurant.
"So nice to see you too. It's been five years since we last saw each other," I replied and she nodded in agreement.
"Hey bro, what's up?" I said to Alex and we exchanged brief hugs.
"Why isn't your husband here?" He asked me and I cleared my throat.
"He is really busy with work," I replied but Alex raised a curious brow not convinced with my response.
"Congratulations on your wedding, Jasmine. Alex told me you married to Liam," Sam said, I gave her a fake smile.
"Thank you," i said. "What do you ladies want to eat? I will go make the order," Alex offered.
We told him what we wanted and he left the table. I drew in a deep breath as i glanced around the restaurant.
I was feeling anxious that someone might be watching me. "Jasmine, are you okay?" Sam asked worriedly.
"I'm fine," i lied. "Is it marriage stress? Are you pregnant?" She pressed on and i chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
"I'm not pregnant, Sam. You haven't changed, you worry too much," I assured her and she smiled.
Her eyes drifted to Alex who was talking on the phone. Her hands were sweaty and her brows furrowed.
"What's wrong?" I questioned noticing her distress. She sighed, her gaze fixed on Alex.
"Do you think Alex loves me?" She asked, catching me off guard.
"I just heard about your relationship yesterday, Sam. I can't say," i replied softly, choosing my words carefully.
"He didn't tell you about us all this while?" Her eyes widened as she asked. I wondered how long they had been dating.
"Maybe it's because i just got back recently," i tried to assure her but she shook her head.
My heart broke when she locked her tear filled eyes onto mine. I placed a comforting hand on hers. "What's wrong Sam?"
"Alex and i have been in a relationship since last year. But he doesn't love me, Jasmine. He sneaks out to call another woman, he is dating someone else," she revealed, her voice trembling.
I was shocked by her confession. Alex was dating someone else? Who could that be?
"I'm so sorry, Sam. Did you confront him about it?" I asked and she shook her head.
"I'm scared, I don't want him to leave me. I love him so much," she said, her voice shaking. I felt her pain as i was going through something similar.
"Everything will be okay. We will find this woman he is secretly dating," i assured her.
"Wipe your tears, Alex is heading to our table," I advised. She quickly composed herself and we pretended to be engaged in another conversation.
"Here's your food. I have to leave now," Alex said abruptly, dropping our food on the table.
I raised an eyebrow, curious about his sudden departure.
"Where are you off to? You promised to spend the whole day with me," Sam said, her voice tinged with anger and he rolled his eyes.
"I have things to do," he snapped at her. "Alex," I cautioned him, he ignored us and left.
"See what i mean. He doesn't love me anymore," Sam broke down into tears.
"Don't worry, Sam. I will talk to my brother and we will figure this out. We will find this mystery woman together," i consoled her.
Neither of us had an appetite so we left our food untouched. Sam received an emergency from work while i left for home.
My mind was filled with different thoughts about Alex's cunny behavior. Everything has been exhausting since i returned.
I walked into the house, sighing heavily. Liam had left without a word and wasn't answering my calls.
I changed my clothes into a short and t-shirt. I decided to bake a cake to distract myself.
"Hey," Liam said, his large hands wrapping around my waist and his voice sending shivers down my spine.
"How are you?" I asked him and he kissed my cheek.
"Are you drunk Liam?" I asked again as i wondered why he was so touchy all of a sudden.
"Is this not what you've always wanted?" He questioned and i rolled my eyes.
"Are you horny? Do you want sex? You can just come straight and tell me what you want. There's no need to pretend, I know you don't love me," i said, my anger rising.
His eyes changed, guilt written all over his face. "Jasmine, i'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything i put you through," he apologized.
"Don't be sorry, Liam. You tell me you are sorry each time yet you hurt me. You can go find your Rachel, i know that's who you think of," i said, my anger boiling over.
I was so angry at him for everything he had done to me. Sam tears at the restaurant had fueled my anger. I was tired of being hurt.
"What do you want me to do? What can i do to make you happy?" He requested, his voice sincere.
I walked out on him and went to my bedroom. I was surprised when he followed me.
"Jasmine, please trust me. I'm ready to make amends," he tried to assure me.
I was leaning against the wall and we held each other's gaze. He came closer to me and touched my cheek.
I swallowed as i felt his breath on my face. He didn't smell of alcohol, i would have said he was really drunk.
He placed his hand on my waist and i shivered. "I have been dying to kiss you, Jasmine. I want you but i just don't want to hurt you," he whispered.
I couldn't help but to give in. This has what i had been waiting for. Our lips met and we kissed hungrily.
I moaned at the taste and feeling of his lips on mine. "Jasmine," he groaned as he lifted me up.
My legs were wrapped round his waist. The feeling of his hard length against my core was heavenly. I was ready to give him all of me.
As we broke apart for air, i saw sincerity in his eyes.
But when i remembered Sam tears and the number of times he had told me he doesn't love me, my doubts resurfaced.
Could i really trust him? Or was i setting myself up for more heartache?
