Chapter 5 - Chapter 3: Meeting the Comrades

The waiting room was a space of anticipation and curiosity. Li Wei and his fellow participants occupied plush chairs, their eyes filled with wonder and apprehension. As they waited for the next phase of this extraordinary journey to unfold, the room buzzed with unspoken questions and uncharted potential. It was Chen Wu Tao, a handsome and dominant figure among the group, who broke the silence. With a determined stance, he suggested, "While we wait, why don't we introduce ourselves? Knowing each other better could prove useful on this journey."Nods of agreement echoed through the room, and the 'godly soldiers' began to introduce themselves orderly, one after another, their voices forming a chorus of diverse backgrounds and experiences.Chen Wu Tao, the gym teacher from Sichuan, was the first to step forward. He was muscular, exuding an air of confidence and kindness. "I am Chen Wu Tao," he said, his voice resonant. "I've been a gym teacher for years, and I've always been passionate about fitness. I hope my strength will come into use, and I hope we get along."Next to speak was Liu Ji Mei, a young librarian from Shenzhen. She possessed a striking beauty and a quiet grace. Li Wei stared at her elegant body as she spoke, using her speech as an excuse to examine her beauty. "I'm Liu Ji Mei," she said with a smile, possibly directed to Li Wei, his face blushing. "My love for books and knowledge brought me to the Shenzhen library. I believe in the power of wisdom, should my knowledge ever come into use, I shall aid to the best of my ability."After her, Chao Zhong, a man of mystery and intrigue who worked as a fortune teller in Wuhan, stepped forward. Li Wei looked at his mysterious appearance with curiosity. His eyes held an enigmatic gleam as he introduced himself. "I am Chao Zhong," he said in a measured tone. "I've spent my life delving into the realms of the unknown. You were all chosen here for a particular reason, as our lives have been intertwined by fate, I wish that our fates will not conflict with each other."

Huang Ming Cong, a short and young teenager with an aura of passion, followed. "I'm Huang Ming Cong," he declared with a confident grin. "I'm currently a student at Tsinghua University, I'm quite academic and not an athletic person. I don't care if I'm incapable of this position, but I hope we get along." Li Wei slightly disliked his arrogance.Next came Chen Fa Ya, a skinny, weak but talkative young adult." I'm Chen Fa Ya, a graduate of Nanking University. I have a wide knowledge of everything, I hope we get along." His introduction was simple and persuading, but Li Wei wondered if he was unemployed by the way he only mentioned his graduation.Another person introduced themself. A shy, cute short girl, probably still in university began," My name is Hui Xi Yin, I'm a student at the Guang Dong Arts School. My profession is crafting. Although I can't really fight... I can help in crafting tools and gadgets." Li Wei found her adorable as she got nervous and spoke quickly, her voice low and quiet.Zhou Bin Bai embarrassingly asked for permission to begin, his hands were shivering and his voice too," Umm... Can I start?" Wu Tao nodded to him and offered a confident smile, as if encouraging him, he began," I... I'm Zhou Bin Bai, a... cook from Shanghai, studying in the Eastern Cuisine Cooking School." Li Wei broadened his eyes, realising that he came from the same city he came from. He had also heard of the cooking school he went to, it was a prestigious, well-known school in China, he smirked at him with passion and warmness, and he returned with a small wave. " I look forward to knowing you."

A cold and fearsome person suddenly stood up, his voice resonant and declaring," Name is Wan Shu Heng, martial artist from Beijing Gym. Don't get in my way." Li Wei was stunned from his last sentence, he moved his chair slightly backwards, intimidated by his cold declaration. Everyone glared at him with fear and hatred as a backlash to his rudeness. Egotistic selfish men, Li Wei hated them the most. The room's focus slowly turned to Li Wei as they all introduced themselves. Li Wei's heart beated violently, his pulse quickening as he noticed several eyes monitoring his every action, observing his everything. "I'm Li Wei..." he began, his voice tinged with nervousness, slightly shivering from panic. "I don't have any special talents or characteristics. I'm just an ordinary person, but I'll try to learn and do my best..."Li Wei's self-introduction hung in the air, he couldn't help but feel a sense of inadequacy in comparison to his remarkable fellows. Each of them possessed unique skills, knowledge, and talents, while he felt like a simple spectator on a journey beyond his comprehension. He felt like an NPC in the games that he played, those unnamed side characters, useless, unimportant and unrecognised. He looked around and discovered slight scoffs from people. He felt humiliated and embarrassed. As the introductions were finalized by Li Wei's unconfident, mediocre speech, the room fell into awkward silence, almost directly targeted to cringe at his inability. Li Wei embarrassingly stared at himself. He wondered if he was really chosen, the thought of maybe being replaced by an actually capable person would benefit everyone came to his mind, he wanted to quit this high responsibility, pressuring role, and live his pathetic, simple life in the barren, messy city of Shanghai, with his single mom. But he knew he couldn't. This was his duty as a citizen of China- it was an obligation to stay here, his only choice was to hope that he would discover his own place in this competitive team filled with talented people as their journey unfolded. As the introductions among the future soldiers of Divine Vanguard came to an end, an unexpected arrival commanded the room's attention. The door to the waiting area swung open, and in walked a figure of authority that had every security guard at the side bowing, which Li Wei and the rest bowed as well for the formalities. It was none other than Tan Bo Hong, the Vice President of China. His presence was commanding, and his dignified demeanour struck an immediate halt to the room's original atmosphere of anticipation and curiosity. They looked on, surprised and curious, as the esteemed leader entered their midst. Li Wei recognised him from the news he'd seen, whenever their president was absent, he would deliver the speeches for him, he looked at him with high respect and bowed. With a deep and resonant voice, Vice President Tan Bo Hong began to address the room. "Ladies and gentlemen, I am honoured to stand before you today," he said, his gaze steady and unwavering. "To meet with the future stars of China, the last hope we have for winning the war. Today, you have been chosen for a mission of utter importance. 'Project Mythos' represents a turning point in our nation's quest for global dominance"Tan Bo Hong went on to emphasize the critical role the 'godly soldiers' would play in the ongoing war. "The powers you are about to inherit," he explained, "have the potential to reshape the course of history. They will aid you as you defend China against enemies, and possibly even aid China in conquering nations." Li Wei's eyes went wide open as he absorbed intel after intel. His knowledge of this war project broadened. The room hung on his every word as he spoke of the grand ambition and responsibility that rested on their shoulders, as if the air vibrated from his great words. "You are not just soldiers; you are the bearers of our nation's hopes and dreams," he continued. "I have every confidence that you will work as a united team, lead China to victory, and bring glory to our homeland."With his speech concluded, Vice President Han Zheng extended his best wishes to the Divine Vanguard and left the room, his presence leaving an indelible mark on the collective psyche of the team. The weight of their mission, the ambition of their nation, and the destiny of the world now rested on their shoulders. Meanwhile, Li Wei silently sat there, digesting every word he uttered, realizing the importance of his role.As everyone absorbed the gravity of their situation, they exchanged looks filled with determination and unity. They understood the importance of their journey and the profound impact it would have on their nation, their world, and themselves. The adventure had truly begun, and they needed to improve themselves to face the incoming hardships.
