Chapter 2 - : Are All First Dungeons This Easy?

Awakened by a pressing weight on his chest and a gentle slap across the face, Yves struggled to grasp his surroundings.

"Morning sunshine, you look wonderful," Elara greeted him.

"I'd feel better if I could breathe," Yves replied sarcastically before quickly protecting his face preparing for the expected.

"Oh come on… I even spared you the cold water. Lyra was all set to dunk you," Elara teased, gesturing towards Lyra who quickly hid a bucket in the sink.

"What? No, I would never!" Lyra protested with a playful innocence.

With a rude awakening Yves quickly got up and ready, running down to the main guild hall. It bustled with activity to his surprise, full of adventurers preparing for the day ahead. Yves observed the comings and goings, tall elegant elves, short dwarves filled with confidence, everything almost identical to a book found in a fantasy section at some library on earth. Elara approached Yves, a mischievous glint in her eye.

"You ready rookie?" she asked with a grin.

Yves hesitated for a moment, thinking what she could mean. "For what?" Yves questioned.

"Just follow me…and, make sure to grab a sword," Elara said, turning and walking before explaining her antics. "We're heading to the dungeon just outside of town. We will lead you there but, you will be on your own… for now. It'll be tough, but it's the best way for you to get acclimated."

Elara led the way out of the guild house, Yves and the others following closely.

The morning sun casting long shadows across the gravel streets as they made their way towards the second gate where the towns dungeon awaited.

Yves took a deep breath… the air was crisp and light, feeling warm almost as if it were hugging him tightly before letting go with each exhale.

As they approached the entrance to the dungeon, the atmosphere shifted subtly. The sounds of the bustling town faded into the background, replaced by chatter from the adventurers waiting around the dungeon's entrance.

The dungeon's entrance was quite strange, a mound of earth erected from the ground with trees flanking it from all sides except the front, inside the mound was an ancient looking stone gate. Where adventurer parties lined up one by one waiting for the portal guard to wave them through.

"First timers like you typically get a easy dungeon, but do not challenge the boss or any elite tier monsters… those take a party or a higher level, nothing to be worried about though just level up targeting the weak guys." Elara explained turning to Yves to speak once more. "Come find us later in the guild house and tell us what you get" Elara said as she gently patted Yves shoulder, her eyes concerned…but serious.

Yves smiled and nodded, quickly turning to the dungeon entrance awaiting his turn to be waived through.

The ancient stone gate stood before Yves, The guard nodded and Yves stepped into the gate…

The dungeon greeted Yves with a chilling cold, each time he exhaled, his breath condensed into mist, swirling for a short length before disappearing into the dimly lit cavern that stretched endlessly in all directions ahead. Everything Yves could see was pure ice, it shined a light blue… beautiful but eerie.

Yves stepped cautiously through the icy caverns he had been transported to not knowing what could appear, his senses on full alert for any sign of movement.

After some time of walking, a small group lesser ice golems emerged from thin air with a shining blue light, their bodies materializing 5 meters in front of Yves.

With no hesitation, Yves took action, quickly calling forth his bow, magical energy swirled around Yves before gathering in his palm, igniting with a great intensity. The blaze quickly condensed revealing a flaming bow. Yves took aim immediately and fired shots in rapid sequence, each arrow finding its mark with precision, piercing the golems one by one. The small group of lesser golems fell quickly, each ones health bar rapidly depleting. With a final shot, the last lesser golem dissipated into nothingness.

"Nice, three levels is not that bad… if i continue like this i wonder how fast i could get a second ability.." Yves mumbled talking to himself

"menu open." Yves said loudly with a blue menu suddenly appearing infront of him.

"Nice looks like i got the hang of the whole system thing." (Yves)

"Wow, a two hundred percent increase?! That's incredible! So if I invest 5 points, I'm actually investing 10... Thats almost broken, but what about Faith? I've never seen that stat before. Can I not upgrade it either? If thats the case, I should allocate my stats into Agility and Intelligence to compensate for my close range weakness and mana loss... But i also need to invest in strength for increased damage…" Yves said weighing each option in his mind before allocating his stats.

After allocating his unused stat points Yves looked at his stats with confidence, wanting to quickly test how much more powerful he was, Yves closed his menu and took off to find some testing dummies.

Rapidly approaching a new opening in the cavern, frost spiders appeared suddenly. Their crystalline legs clicking against the icy floor… A red health bar appeared above their heads with Yves gathering their attention. Reacting swiftly, Yves summoned his bow once again, Yves exhaled and released, a single arrow sailed beautifully, guided by unforeseen accuracy and power piercing through the spiders in succession, a collateral hit. With one shot, 3 ice spiders had fallen in an instant.

"Nice!, 2 more levels in an instant… at this rate i might be seeing a new skill quite soon." (Yves)

Drunk off recent success, Yves darted through the dungeon, immediately encountered frost mares. Massive agile predators with white fur almost perfect alikeness to a wolf. Before Yves could react they pounced in succession, Yves made a terrible blunder. The elite tier monsters snapped their jaws at Yves just barely missing. The frost mares claws slashing through the frigid air summoning barrages of ice spikes in perfect harmony. This was dangerous… Yves danced around their attacks narrowly missing death each time, Yves' bow a blur. The mares' relentless assault cornered him.

"Agility, use all!" Yves shouted a split second before a mare attempted to strike him.

Yves disappeared, his afterimage remained, torn apart by the jaws of the massive wolf like creatures. The mares confused, looked around fearfully trying to find Yves… but it was too late, Yves summoned arrow after arrow like a wave of relentless flames, each arrow piercing the mares thick fur with precision. Seconds go by as the mares health bars drop rapidly, one by one they fall to Yves. A pack of elite tier frost mares defeated in two minutes… a feat that would take a full team of level ten adventurers an average of six…

Happy with his stats Yves pressed deeper determined to find the dungeon boss after hours of walking. Yves finally entered a vast chamber aglow with an eerie but beautiful azure light. Yves felt a wave of fear suddenly resonating within him, without notice a towering monolith with eyes like frozen sapphires, emerged from a sudden swirling mist, greater ice golem {boss} read above it along with its enormous health bar. Yves determined, he summoned his bow ready for the fight.

The golem quickly reacted to Yves' presence, its massive fists crashed down, sending shockwaves through the cavern. Yves vanished and reappeared in sequence firing a volley of arrows from all directions. A spectacle to watch from afar. The arrows gleamed like beams of light embracing the golem with flames of destruction. Each shot chipped away at the golems formidable defense, the fury of attacks echoing like thunder repeatedly through the chamber.

Yves jumped into the air, infusing all of his mana into a final arrow creating a powerful light blinding the golem. The flames of the bow embraced Yves, hugging him so tightly they started reshaping the air around him. The effects melting the once cavern of ice, now all that remained was pools of water forming from the immense heat. Yves exhaled with a smoldering breath and released, the bolt piercing the golem's exterior with sheer heat. Such tremendous power, the bolt struck the wall behind the golems once towering body forming a crater of melted ice and stone.
