I knock on the wooden door, and then I open it and step into the class.
My class consists of 26 students.
Everyone in the class turn their attention towards me, some laugh, some sigh and some start to whisper.
I look at the teacher, and give him a little bow.
"Uhh... Good morning Mr. Hart."
"I'm sorry for being late!"
I say with nervous smile on my face.
"You're late yet again, Niente."
I raise my head, the nervous smile still apparent on my face.
"Sorry haha..."
I say while scratching the back of my head, because Lilith is tickling it softly making it itch a little.
"Why are you scratching your head like that, Niente?"
The teacher says with a curious expression.
My eyes widen and I quickly make up some reason.
"Aaah!"
"My cat lives with me in my room!"
"So basically, when I was sleeping she scratched my head there."
"And it itches very much because of it haha."
I say nervously and I hear Lilith giggle mischeviously.
"OK."
"Go take your seat."
The teachers says and gestures me to go away.
I walk over to my seat, right next to Arthur.
I sit down on the chair next to the window like always.
"Hi, Arthur."
I say while looking at him.
"Hello, Niente."
He shoots me a bright smile.
Arthur is just someone I'm looking up to, he is like the perfect Holy Knight, who has zero negatives.
It's been a month since my 1st year started, but Arthur is the only friend I've made up to this day.
The teachers hits his desk to silence the class.
"Today my dear students."
"You all need to listen closely because this class is crucial to the ones who want to become holy knights, or priestesses."
The teacher says and adjusts his glasses.
"Huh?"
I mutter to myself and look over at the teacher while locking in.
"Today's subject is about a fenomen called "Magia Overdrive", I bet that most of you have heard of it."
"Anyone care to shine with knowledge and explain what it is?"
The class is silent and no one raises their hand, but then Arthur volunteers to answer.
"Hmmm..."
"Maybe Mr. Always Late Niente?"
"Care to explain?"
My eyes widen because I was sure that Arthur will answer, after all he raised his hand.
I hear Lilith's giggle as I stand up with a nervous smile.
"I see that you're having trouble Nienteee..."
"Come on give me your body, and then all the problems will be gone."
"Let the powerful Lilith take the matters into her hands."
Her words echoe throughout my mind and I feel her slowly resting her chin on my shoulder.
"Shut up!"
I mutter to her.
The teacher frowns at me.
"Did you say something, Niente?"
"Did you just insult me?"
"Or maybe told me to "Shut up""?
The teachers says and cracks his index finger.
"No, No!"
"I would never!"
The teacher sighs and waves his hands, indicating me to explain what Magia Overdrive is.
"Uhh..."
"Magia Overdrive is a fenomen that occurs when someone is using body enhancing spells..."
"...But its rather a hard thing to do, because most people who managed to experience it, either are dead or just very lucky"
"Dead out of old age of course, because it is really, really rare."
I say with a nervous smile, I do not feel well because I don't like to speak, or explain to many people at the same time.
I see the teacher's surprised face.
"Oh..."
"You actually knew?"
"Okay, sit down and I'll explain the rest."
I sit down, nodding slightly.
Arthur smiles at me with pride and pats my back.
"Good job, bud!"
He says in his usual cheerful tone.
Lilith's voice echoes throughout my mind, it's filled with disgust and anger.
"You're disgusting Arthur."
Arthur smiles and looks directly at my shoulder.
"Thanks for the compliment, Lilith."
I just sigh.
"Their conversations are always like that..."
"...Oh yeah!"
"I forgot to mention!"
"Arthur is my only friend, mostly because he can see her and interact with her."
"He can hit her."
"He can pull her hair"
"Basically for him she is just a living being."
"How is it possible?"
"Its simple!"
"Arthur was born with the ability to interact with ghosts/spirits."
"And Lilith is now technically a spirit."
"I've realized it long time ago, I mean she is haunting me and I only can see her when I'm asleep..."
"Ahh... anyways."
"I need to focus on what the teacher is saying."
I end my solo conversation with myself and listen to the teacher.
"So how can you land an Magia Overdrive?"
"Like Niente has stated, you need a lot of luck."
"I will give you an example demonstration."
The teacher clenches his hand into a fist and activates strength enhancing spells on low mana output.
The teacher then hits the wall, but he deactivated his strength enhancing spell before hitting the wall.
The teacher then turns around and looks at the students.
"I wasn't lucky enough, so I didn't manage to do the Magia Overdrive."
Suddenly a girl with glasses raises her hand.
"What is it Roxy?"
The teacher says and gestures her to speak.
"Umm..."
"I'm sorry for interrupting, but this did not explain anything.
She says with a smile on her face.
"Who Roxy is?"
"Ahh... she's just the a prodigy."
"Even despite being in the 1st grade, she is one of the students who are the most capable of becoming Holy Knights and Priestesses in the future."
The teacher smiles at her.
"Oh Roxy, sit down."
"I will explain further it and you all will understand."
Roxy then sits down and the teacher starts to speak again.
"So basically, you all must've noticed that the wall is not damaged."
"Why? You students may ask."
"Because I deactivated the strength ehancing spell before hitting the wall."
"And this is how Magia Overdrive works. You just need to deactivate the spell that you wanted to use, in the perfect moment, and then it can activate on its own."
"Its stated to hit with 10 times the amount of power the original attack was supposed to, and also increase the amount of mana, the output and the control permanently by 20%, but only if it lands on another living person."
The students imiedatly start to talk amongst each other.
I hear them saying things like "Woah", "Its amazing!", or "Why haven't I ever seen anyone on the arena doing it, even if it's rare!?".
I look over at Arthur and roll my eyes.
"Magia Overdrive is useless, don't you think Arthur?
He smiles at me like always.
"I don't think so, Niente"
Arthur responds and I hear that Lilith just sighed.
"She's always sighing when I'm talking to my only friend..."
"She is such an annoyance I swear!"
Some people in class look at me after they hear what I've just said.
"Weirdo"
"Party popper"
"Can't you atleast let us imagine ourselves managing to land a Magia Overdrive?"
"Yeah he's right! Being the worst doesn't mean that you can break the fun!"
I hear Lilith's heavy breathing, she seems mad?
"How dare you humans... insult MY Niente?"
"He is MY vessel and I will not let anyone insult him!"
The teacher looks over at me.
"Why do you think so, Niente?"
I'm very hurt by the insults coming, but I look over at the teacher and I speak, keeping my feelings to myself.
"Its pointless, and even dangerous to try and land it during a real battle, because the chance of landing it, is almost equal to zero."
The teachers sighs and looks at me with a hint of sadness in his eyes.
"I'm sorry Niente, but at this point you can leave the academy."
"You're an inteligent guy and you also have a lot of knowledge, bit you're not fit into becoming a Holy Knight."
My eyes widen.
"Huh?"
"Just by your answer I can tell that you would never take any risk, you probably just prefer doing things you're capable of doing."
"Its not like you can't be better, you just don't want to be better."
The teacher adds and then the bell rings.
"The class is over!"
The teacher says and the students start to pack their things.
I just stand there in shock for a moment.
I just want to burst out in tears, but I hold it to myself as I pack my stuff I notice that Arthur is already gone.
Lilith's manipulative and sinister whispers echoe throughout my mind.
"Its okay Niente..."
"...You can always rely on me."
I feel her pressing up against my back.
The light from my eyes seems to fade a bit, I lower my head and grab my bag.
I leave the teacher alone in the classroom.
