The next day at school, I did not see him.
Down to the period that we shared, there was no sign of him. Neither in the school corridor, as all the students passed by, I did not catch even a sight of him there either.
"Where is your attention?"
Viviana poked my head, making me look back at her from staring out there at the front, expecting him at some point. We were both standing by our lockers.
"Has your best friend, too, got bored of your presence?"
Matt Wilson smirked standing in front of us. It made Viviana frown already irritated by his presence.
Being here more than a month then, I had come to know that Matt Wilson and Viviana shared a peculiar relationship of love and hate such that even though in the presence of each other, one would act as if they did not like it would also complain about the absence if they went too long without seeing each other.
"Shut up Wilson. Go back to your daddy's castle."
Viviana snapped. It made me stifle my laughter when she glared at me.
"Well, at least Ms. Invincible here finds it amusing."
Matt looked at me with a chuckle. Was it my new nickname that they made for me now? I questioned myself.
"Can you guys stop giving names already?"
Viviana narrowed her eyes at him. Matt raised his hands in surrender, letting us know that it was not his or their friend's group doing but something I had earned myself.
"It is not us, Vivian. It is the school. One that defeats our golden boy has to be of course an 'invincible creature.'"
Matt smiled getting ready to leave. Viviana hated when he would call her Vivian as if that sounded like the name of some soap opera villain.
"He is no golden boy. And she is just better. Stop calling me Vivian. Period!"
She yelled at his retreating figure. He only let out a small laugh as if winning his everyday mission of bothering her.
"She is your friend. No wonder why she is invincible, Miss Vivian."
The last words he shot her way as he disappeared into the crowd leaving a very hot-headed Viviana.
It made me wonder how someone could bother anyone so much. Even if it was not clear to Viviana what kind of relationship she shared with Matt, it was very apparent to me including others that something definitely was going on between the two.
However much to her annoyance, no one would ever come to her and tell her that what she felt for Matt could be more than irritation because Viviana Stepheson was one strong-headed woman. And neither I was going to make her see that either.
"All the jock group have it loose in here."
She said pointing to her forehead. I smiled and she returned it. At least letting go of that annoying mood slowly.
"I'm not even kidding."
"I know."
I nodded my head. There was no way I would risk dealing with confronting Viviana than agreeing with her.
Our free period was about to be over and it was my cue to leave for my next class. So I turned around to grab my books from the locker when I felt like I heard him.
It made me turn around really quickly not expecting to hit Viviana who was standing very close to me, knocking off the books in her hold and so mine.
"What is up with you today?"
She questioned while I stared down at the boys walking away and not either of them was him.
"Janet?"
She pinched my wrist making me hiss out and see her.
"Ouch!"
"Now I have you. What is the deal here?"
She implored. Not knowing what to say, I just bent down to get the books. Handing her's to her, I took mine ready to go attend my next class.
"Will wait for you in the lunch."
She said and I did not let out another word than just shaking my head positively, walking away.
I was surely going to be intervened later in the lunch by her what was going on with me today.
Neither did I have a clear sky response to that. I think it was just unusual not to see him as he was also one of the regular students just like me.
More than a month here and I have seen many being absent during this time frame but him. So he became a regular face to me. Sometimes even Viviana would not come and so did Cole even though I only knew him through her.
I felt like speedrunning through the English Lit and in no time, the bell went off signalling it was time for lunch.
Putting the books inside my duffle bag in a hurry, I made my way out to the corridor once again expecting to see him maybe running to the cafeteria with his friend groups.
Dissapointed that I could not spot him there either, I had hoped to at least see him hanging out in the cafeteria with his friends but no. Instead I saw Viviana waving at me from our usual table.
I closed and opened my eyes at once getting annoyed at my ownself wondering why was his absence bugging me so much.
After lunch, coach Pamella called us for a Volleyball practice. Even though I knew that it was a rare sight for him to have come to the ground yesterday, I expected maybe he would be here challenging me again...who knows?
The school was going to be over in a few minutes, and so I concluded that he was officially absent today. Why?
Getting done with my shower, I opened the door to let the other girl in line come in but then the person I expected the least at that moment stood before me. He was here right in front of my eyes.
Fast forward to five years, he stood at my door. My eyes on his as his on mine. Why has it to be this way?
