Chapter 45 - A Game of Chess

None if the three were used to consuming such a large amount of wine. Out of the all, Oliver was the oldest, but coming from the slums, his options had been limited to a cheap, bitter ale the locals brewed, so he didn't have a very high tolerance for alcohol.

The bard's head was spinning and he was not alone. Even the delicious meal they had been served wasn't enough of a buffer to fend off the level of intoxication he was feeling.

Fennel swayed over to the sofa, his eyes narrowing on his chess board. He flicked his tail and stared at it. "Somebody play me."

"I'm terrible at chess," Lily said as she collapsed on the sofa next to Fennel, her head resting on the opposite arm as she sprawled out. Her ears were folded down as she closed her eyes.

"I'll play," Oliver offered as he took a seat on the floor opposite Fennel. "I've played a lot of chess."

"Have you?" The king asked with a raised brow.

"No," Oliver laughed. "But I can give it a shot."
