"Where did it go?" Fujino panted, scanning his surroundings. He had been pursuing a demon for nearly half an hour now.
He first spotted it during his patrol and immediately chased it down. Although the demon wasn't particularly powerful, it more than made up for that with its incredible agility.
It dodged, weaved, and slid away from him. No matter what tactics he employed, he just couldn't land a decisive hit. Its small size certainly didn't help matters.
Suddenly, Fujino noticed it darting from one tree to another. "Oi, come back here!" he yelled, sprinting after it.
As he ran, the demon continued to evade him, leaping from tree to tree and using branches to cover large distances. If he hadn't known better, he might have thought he was chasing a monkey.
Before long, he burst through the tree line and stumbled upon a house. He had seen it several times before but had no idea who it belonged to or if it was even occupied.
He spotted the demon perched on the roof of the house, and Fujino quickly followed it up. However, as he landed on the rooftop, he found it empty.
'Again?!' Fujino was wondering if someone was playing a prank on him. There was no way he could have lost it so quickly. The only explanation he could come up with was that it had—
He heard a lound thud cobbled with shuffling noises below. It didn't take long for him to realize what that meant. "Oh... it's inside the house."
That was the only conclusion that made sense. With him so close, the demon couldn't have escaped.
He faced two choices: either he could enter the house and confront it, which would be risky given its small size, or he could take a different approach.
He chose the latter: Chemical Warfare.
Drawing inspiration from both the Germans and his recent discovery of the properties of wisteria, he decided that gassing the demon out was the most effective strategy.
Without wasting any time, he pulled out several censers from his Inventory and strategically placed them around the house—under the window, in front of the front door, on the veranda, and even one on the roof for good measure.
He lit them and observed as the sweet scent of wisteria permeated the air. Normally, he enjoyed the scene, but with the quantity he had set up, the aroma became so dense that he had to step back for a breath of fresh air.
Before long, he began to hear coughing sounds. A broad smile spread across his face. His plan was working.
He heard hurried footsteps from inside and waited eagerly for the demon.
He was curious about the effects of wisteria on them and wanted to witness it firsthand.
Suddenly, the front door burst open, and Fujino tensed, ready to attack the demon the moment it appeared—
'Huh?' To say he was shocked would be an understatement. Instead of a demon, he found himself staring at two humans—a male and a female—completely naked.
'I-is this a joke' Fujino's eyebrow twitched. Why did he keep ending up in these situations? First the river, and now this.
The worst part was that he recognized these two, and they definitely weren't a couple.
As soon as he realized what was happening, he turned and left, not wanting to deal with the mess he had stumbled into. He would later find the same demon and simply shove a whole wisteria branch down its gullet.
